| 1 | A framework for a microscale flood damage assessment and visualization for a building using BIM-GIS integration显示文摘Flood damage assessment(FDA)is a key component of risk-based method for flood management.In the current FDA approaches,generally the uniqueness of the building is disregarded in the analysis.Therefore,they are unfit for detailed applications in which case-by-case analysis of building damage is an essential requirement.This limitation is compounded by the use of incomplete and often low-quality data inputs about the building and the assumptions and approximations made regarding the geometry and materials of its components.Such shortcomings may result in incomplete and uncertain outcomes.Considering the benefits and increasing use of three-dimensional(3D)urban modeling and Building Information Model in various urban management processes,in this paper,an integrated framework for utilization of detailed 3D building models for the assessment and 3D visualization of flood damage to building according to its distinct behavior against flood is presented.A proof-ofconcept demonstration of the framework in a case study underlined the feasibility of implementation of the framework,which can potentially benefit a variety of users and be used as a complementary approach to the current FDA methods for improving the resilience of the community toward floods and their adverse impacts. | Sam Amirebrahimi Abbas Rajabifard Priyan Mendis Tuan Ngo | 2016 | International Journal of Digital Earth2016,9,4: | 5 |
| 2 | Modeling the effects of mechanical parameters on the hydrodynamic behavior of vertical current classifiers显示文摘This study modeled the effects of structural and dimensional manipulations on hydrodynamic behavior of a bench vertical current classifier.Computational fluid dynamics(CFD)approach was used as modeling method,and turbulent intensity and fluid velocity were applied as system responses to predict the overflow cut size variations.These investigations showed that cut size would decrease by increasing diameter and height of the separation column and cone section depth,due to the decrease of turbulent intensity and fluid velocity.As the size of discharge gate increases,the overflow cut-size would decrease due to freely fluid stream out of the column.The overflow cut-size was significantly increased in downward fed classifier compared to that fed by upward fluid stream.In addition,reforming the shape of angular overflow outlet’s weir into the curved form prevented stream inside returning and consequently unselective cut-size decreasing. | Arabzadeh Jarkani Soroush Khoshdast Hamid Shariat Elaheh Sam Abbas | 2014 | International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2014,24,1: | 3 |
| 3 | A comparison of financial and operational efficiency between smart and traditional insufflation for laparoscopic surgery: A granular analysis显示文摘Objective:Smart insufflation(SI)techniques relying on valve and membrane-free insufflation are increasing in usage.Although considerable literature exists demonstrating the benefits of SI on procedural ease and patient outcomes,there remains a paucity describing the financial impact of these devices.The purpose of this study was to determine the financial and efficiency impact of these devices on the operating room and inpatient wards of a hospital.Methods:A discrete event simulation model representing a typical mid-sized North American hospital comparing SI to traditional insufflation(TI)was generated.The National Surgical Quality Improvement database from 2015 to 2019 was used to populate the model with data supplemented from the literature.Outcomes included length of stay(LOS),duration of surgery(DOS),annual procedure volume,profit,return on investment(ROI),and gross profit margin(GPM).From the literature review,DOS savings were 10e32 minutes/case,while LOS savings were 0e3 days/case.Results:Implementation of an SI led to an increase in annual throughput of 42e346(4.4%e36.6%)cases for all procedures and 38 to 297(4.3%e33.3%)cases for complex procedures.LOS was found to be decreased by 175e614(18.3%e64.2%)days for all procedures and 231 to 614(35.6%e77.9%)cases for complex procedures with the implementation of an SI.Together,this resulted in an increase in net profit of$104,685 per annum.The ROI of SI over the TI device was>1000%,and the GPM for the TI was 90.0%,while the GPM for the SI was 71.7%.Conclusion:Despite the initial financial investment being greater,the implementation of SI offsets these expenses and yields significant financial benefits.Our study demonstrates the financial benefits of SI over TI and illustrates how granular operational and financial analyses of technologies are essential to aid in sound healthcare procurement decision making. | Aazad Abbas Imran Saleh Graeme Hoit Gurjovan Sahi Sam Park Jihad Abouali Cari Whyne Jay Toor | 2023 | Laparoscopic, Endoscopic and Robotic Surgery2023,6,3: | 0 |
| 4 | Evaluation of Mayer curve validity on feed blending at the Zarand coal washery plant显示文摘The coal processing methods used at the Zarand coal washery plant are the heavy medium bath,jigs,and flotation.The coal-containing materials that are fed to the plant are acquired from different mines,and they have different washability properties.In this paper,the validity of Mayer curve (M-curve),the conventional method for determining coal washability,was evaluated on blending of raw coals that are fed to the plant.Washability curves were prepared for the hand-blended samples and compared with the washability predicted by the Mayer curves.Different samples from different seams and mines were blended by hand in 50:50 ratios,and sink and float tests were performed;the resulting washability curves were in good agreement with the washability curves predicted using the Mayer method for the same blending ratio.This work resulted in the preparation of the optimum plant feed that can be achieved from the blending of different coal samples to produce the best plant yield at a given ash content. | Habetinejad Hamidreza Jorjani Esmaeil Sam Abbas | 2012 | International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2012,22,1: | 0 |
