| 2 | Microstructure and Lattice Parameters of AIN Particle-Reinforced Magnesium Matrix Composites Fabricated by Powder Metallurgy显示文摘Magnesium matrix composites reinforced with A1N particles were fabricated by the powder metallurgy technique.The evolution of lattice constants and solid solubility levels of Al in a-Mg and the microstructure of Mg-Al/AIN composites were investigated in the present study.The results showed that the solid solubility of Al in ot-Mg reached a relatively high level by the P/M process with a long time of milling.X-ray diffraction showed that the peaks of Mg phase clearly shifted to higher angles.The lattice constants and cell volume decreased significantly compared with those of standard Mg due to a significant amount of Al incorporated into a-Mg in the form of substitutional solid solution.The degree of lattice deformation decreased at a low sintering temperature and increased at higher sintering temperatures due to the presence of A1N.Microstructural characterization of the composites revealed a necklace distribution of A1N particles in the Mg matrix.Heat treatment led to precipitation of Mg_(17)Al_(12) from the supersaturated a-Mg solid solution.The precipitate exhibited granular and lath-shaped morphologies in Mg matrix and flocculent precipitation around A1 N particles. | Jie Chen Chong-Gao Bao Yong Wang Jin-Ling Liu Challapalli Suryanarayana | 2015 | Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)2015,28,11: | 4 |

| 7 | Mechanical Alloying: A Novel Technique to Synthesize Advanced Materials显示文摘Mechanical alloying is a solid-state powder processing technique that involves repeated cold welding,fracturing,and rewelding of powder particles in a high-energy ball mill.Originally developed about 50 years ago to produce oxide-dispersion-strengthened Ni-and Fe-based superalloys for aerospace and high temperature applications,it is now recognized as an important technique to synthesize metastable and advanced materials with a high potential for widespread applications.Te metastable materials produced include supersaturated solid solutions,intermediate phases,quasicrystalline phases,amorphous alloys,and high-entropy alloys.Additionally,nanocrystalline phases have been produced in virtually every alloy system.Because of the fneness of the powders,their consolidation to full density without any porosity being present is a challenging problem.Several novel methods have been developed to overcome this issue.Powder contamination during milling and subsequent consolidation constitutes another issue;this can be resolved,though expensive.A number of applications have been developed for these novel materials.Tis review article presents an overview of the process of mechanical alloying,mechanism of grain refnement to nanometer levels,and preparation of materials such as nanocomposites and metallic glasses.Te application of mechanical alloying to synthesize some advanced materials such as pure metals and alloys,hydrogen storage materials,and energy materials is described.Te article concludes with an outlook on future prospects of this technique. | Challapalli Suryanarayana | 2019 | Research2019,,1: | 2 |
