| 1 | Overexpression of the M2 isoform of pyruvate kinase is an adverse prognostic factor for signet ring cell gastric cancer显示文摘AIM:To investigate M2 isoform of pyruvate kinase(PKM2) expression in gastric cancers and evaluate its potential as a prognostic biomarker and an anticancer target.METHODS:All tissue samples were derived from gastric cancer patients underwent curative gastrectomy as a primary treatment.Clinical and pathological information were obtained from the medical records.Gene expression microarray data from 60 cancer and 19 noncancer gastric tissues were analyzed to evaluate the expression level of PKM2 mRNA.Tissue microarrays were constructed from 368 gastric cancer patients.Immunohistochemistry was used to measure PKM2 expression and PKM2 positivity of cancer was determined by proportion of PKM2-positive tumor cells and staining intensity.Association between PKM2 expression and the clinicopathological factors was evaluated and the correlation between PKM2 and cancer prognosis was evaluated.RESULTS:PKM2 mRNA levels were increased more than 2-fold in primary gastric cancers compared to adjacent normal tissues from the same patients(log transformed expression level:7.6 ± 0.65 vs 6.3 ± 0.51,P < 0.001).Moreover,differentiated type cancers had significantly higher PKM2 mRNA compared to undifferentiated type cancers(log transformed expression level:7.8 ± 0.70 vs 6.7 ± 0.71,P < 0.001).PKM2 protein was mainly localized in the cytoplasm of primary cancer cells and detected in 144 of 368(39.1%) human gastric cancer cases.PKM2 expression was not related with stage(P = 0.811),but strongly correlated with gastric cancer differentiation(P < 0.001).Differentiated type cancers expressed more PKM2 protein than did the undifferentiated ones.Well differentiated adenocarcinoma showed 63.6% PKM2-positive cells;in contrast,signet-ring cell cancers showed only 17.7% PKM2-positive cells.Importantly,PKM2 expression was correlated with shorter overall survival(P < 0.05) independent of stage only in signet-ring cell cancers.CONCLUSION:PKM2 expression might be an adverse prognostic factor for signet-ring cell carcinomas.Its function and potential as a prognostic marker should be further verified in gastric cancer. | Jae Yun Lim Sun Och Yoon So Young Seol Soon Won Hong Jong Won Kim Seung Ho Choi Jae Yong Cho | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012，18，30： | 19 |

| 4 | Overexpression of miR-196b and HOXA10 characterize a poor-prognosis gastric cancer subtype显示文摘AIM:To identify molecular biologic differences between two gastric adenocarcinoma subgroups presenting different prognoses through the analysis of microRNA and protein expression.METHODS:Array technologies were used to generate1146 microRNAs and 124 proteins expression profiles of samples from 60 patients with gastric cancer.For the integrative analysis,we used established mRNA expression data published in our previous study.Whole mRNA expression levels were acquired from microarray data for 60 identical gastric cancer patients.Two gastric adenocarcinoma subgroups with distinct mRNA expression profiles presented distinctly different prognoses.MicroRNA and protein expression patterns were compared between gastric cancer tissue and normal gastric tissue and between two different prognostic groups.Aberrantly expressed microRNA,associated mRNA,and protein in patients with poor-prognosis gastric cancer were validated by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and immunochemistry in independent patients.RESULTS:We obtained the expression data of 1146microRNAs and 124 cancer-related proteins.Four microRNAs were aberrantly expressed in the two prognostic groups and in cancer vs non-cancer tissues(P<0.05).In the poor-prognosis group,miR-196b,miR-135b,and miR-93 were up-regulated and miR-29c*was down-regulated.miR-196b expression positively correlated with Homeobox A10(HOXA10)expression(r=0.726,P<0.001),which was significantly increased in poor-prognosis patients(P<0.001).Comparing gastric cancer with non-cancer tissues,46/124 proteins showed differential expression(P<0.05);COX2(P<0.001)and cyclin B1(P=0.017)were clearly overexpressed in the poor-prognosis group.CONCLUSION:Co-activation of miR-196b and HOXA10characterized a poor-prognosis subgroup of patients with gastric cancer.Elucidation of the biologic function of miR-196b and HOXA10 is warranted. | Jae Yun Lim Sun Och Yoon So-Young Seol Soon Won Hong Jong Won Kim Seung Ho Choi Ju-Seog Lee Jae Yong Cho | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013，19，41： | 10 |

| 8 | Comparison of gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel and FOLFIRINOX in metastatic pancreatic cancer显示文摘BACKGROUND Gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel(GA)and modified FOLFIRINOX(FFX)have been widely used as standard first-line treatment in pancreatic cancer.However,it is unclear which regimen is more efficacious.AIM To evaluate a retrospective analysis comparing the efficacy and safety of FFX and GA as first-line chemotherapeutic regimens in patients with metastatic pancreatic cancer.METHODS We retrospectively analyzed and compared outcomes in 101 patients who presented with pancreatic cancer and were treated with either GA(n=54)or FFX(n=47).Moreover,we performed subgroup analysis based on the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio(NLR)and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group(ECOG)performance status.RESULTS There were no significant differences between two groups in baseline characteristics,except for the ECOG performance status.The median progression-free survival(PFS)(6.43 mo vs 4.90 mo,P=0.058)was comparable between two groups;however,median overall survival(OS)(10.17 mo vs 6.93 mo,P=0.008)was longer in patients who received GA regimen.In patients with ECOG 0(PFS:8.93 mo vs 5.43 mo,P=0.002;OS:16.10 mo vs 6.97 mo,P=0.000)and those with NLR<3(PFS:8.10 mo vs 6.57 mo,P=0.008;OS:12.87 mo vs 9.93 mo,P=0.002),GA regimen showed higher efficacy.CONCLUSION GA regimen may be recommended to the patients with NLR<3 or ECOG 0 status although GA and FFX showed comparable efficacy outcomes in patients with metastatic pancreatic cancer. | Sung Yong Han Dong Uk Kim Young Mi Seol Suk Kim Nam Kyung Lee Seung Baek Hong Hyung-Il Seo | 2020 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2020，8，17： | 5 |

| 10 | Down-scaled regional ocean modeling system (ROMS) for high-resolution coastal hydrodynamics in Korea显示文摘A down-scaled operational oceanographic system is developed for the coastal waters of Korea using a regional ocean modeling system(ROMS).The operational oceanographic modeling system consists of atmospheric and hydrodynamic models.The hydrodynamic model,ROMS,is coupled with wave,sediment transport,and water quality modules.The system forecasts the predicted results twice a day on a 72 h basis,including sea surface elevation,currents,temperature,salinity,storm surge height,and wave information for the coastal waters of Korea.The predicted results are exported to the web-GIS-based coastal information system for real-time dissemination to the public and validation with real-time monitoring data using visualization technologies.The ROMS is two-way coupled with a simulating waves nearshore model,SWAN,for the hydrodynamics and waves,nested with the meteorological model,WRF,for the atmospheric surface forcing,and externally nested with the eutrophication model,CE-QUAL-ICM,for the water quality.The operational model,ROMS,was calibrated with the tidal surface observed with a tide-gage and verified with current data observed by bottom-mounted ADCP or AWAC near the coastal waters of Korea.To validate the predicted results,we used real-time monitoring data derived from remote buoy system,HF-radar,and geostationary ocean color imager(GOCI).This down-scaled operational coastal forecasting system will be used as a part of the Korea operational oceanographic system(KOOS) with other operational oceanographic systems. | LIM Hak-Soo KIM Chang S PARK Kwang-Soon SHIM Jae Seol CHUN Insik | 2013 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2013，32，9： | 4 |

| 13 | Diagnostic delay in inflammatory bowel disease increases the risk of intestinal surgery显示文摘AIM To investigate the factors affecting diagnostic delay and outcomes of diagnostic delay in inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) METHODS We retrospectively studied 165 patients with Crohn's disease(CD) and 130 patients with ulcerative colitis(UC) who were diagnosed and had follow up durations > 6 mo at Korea University Ansan Hospital from January 2000 to December 2015. A diagnostic delay was defined as the time interval between the first symptom onset and IBD diagnosis in which the 76^(th) to 100^(th) percentiles of patients were diagnosed.RESULTS The median diagnostic time interval was 6.2 and 2.4 mo in the patients with CD and UC, respectively. Among the initial symptoms, perianal discomfort before diagnosis(OR = 10.2, 95%CI: 1.93-54.3, P = 0.006) was associated with diagnostic delays in patients with CD; however, no clinical factor was associated with diagnostic delays in patients with UC. Diagnostic delays, stricturing type, and penetrating type were associated with increased intestinal surgery risks in CD(OR = 2.54, 95%CI: 1.06-6.09; OR = 4.44, 95%CI: 1.67-11.8; OR = 3.79, 95%CI: 1.14-12.6, respectively). | 17 | Change in renal function after sodium phosphate preparation for screening colonoscopy显示文摘AIM:To investigate the changes in renal function at 12-24 mo in patients following sodium phosphate(NaP) preparation for screening colonoscopy.METHODS:We carried out a retrospective study on the results from patients who received health check-up services as part of an employer-provided wellness program performed between August 2006 and May 2008 and who were followed up for 12-24 mo.Prior to screening colonoscopy,224 patients underwent bowel cleansing with NaP(NaP group) and 113 patients with polyethylene glycol(PEG group).The control group comprised 672 age-matched patients.We compared the changes in the creatinine levels and the glomerular filtration rates(GFRs) from baseline to 12-24 mo between the NaP,PEG,and control groups using two-way repeated measured analysis of variance.In addition,multivariate linear regression analysis was performed to assess the risk factors for a decreased GFR.RESULTS:The baseline mean serum creatinine level in the NaP,PEG,and control groups was 1.12 ± 0.15,1.12 ± 0.16,and 1.12 ± 0.15 mg/dL,which increased to 1.15 ± 0.15,1.15 ± 0.18,and 1.15 ± 0.15 mg/dL,respectively,after 12-24 mo.The baseline mean GFR in the NaP,PEG,and control groups was 69.0 ± 7.7,68.9 ± 8.0,and 69.6 ± 6.7 mL/min per 1.73 m2,which decreased to 66.5 ± 7.8,66.5 ± 8.3,and 67.4 ± 6.4 mL/min per 1.73 m2,respectively,after 12-24 mo.The changes in serum creatinine levels and GFRs were not significantly between the NaP,PEG,and control groups(P = 0.992 and P = 0.233,respectively).Using multivariate linear regression analysis,only the baseline GFR was associated with the change in GFR(P < 0.001).Indeed,the bowel preparations were not associated with the change in GFR(P = 0.297).CONCLUSION:NaP bowel preparation in subjects with normal renal function was not associated with renal injury,and NaP can thus be used safely for screening colonoscopy. | Dong Choon Seol Sung Noh Hong Jeong Hwan Kim In Kyung Sung Hyung Seok Park Jung Hyun Lee Chan Sup Shim | 2010 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2010，16，16： | 2 |

| 20 | Development of enterohepatic fistula after embolization in ileal gastrointestinal stromal tumor: A case report显示文摘Gastrointestinal stromal tumor(GIST)is a rare mesenchymal tumor of the gastrointestinal tract that has been associated with the formation of fistulas to adjacent organs in few case reports.However,GIST with enterohepatic fistula has not been reported.Here we report the case of an enterohepatic fistula that occurred after embolization of a liver mass originating in the distal ileum.An 87-year-old woman was hospitalized for melena.On initial conventional endoscopy,a bleeding focus in the gastrointestinal tract was not found.Because of massive hematochezia,enteroscopy was performed through the anus.A protruding,ulcerative mass was found in the distal ileum that was suspected to be the source of the bleeding;a biopsy sample was taken.Electrocoagulation was not successful in controlling the bleeding;therefore,embolization was performed.After embolization,the patient developed a high fever and severe abdominal tenderness with rebound tenderness.Follow-up abdominopelvic computed tomography revealed an enterohepatic fistula between the liver and distal ileum.The fistula was treated surgically by segmental resection of the distal ileum and unlooping of the liver mass. | Yun Ho Lee Ja Seol Koo Chang Ho Jung Sang Yoon Chung Jae Joong Lee Seung Young Kim Jong Jin Hyun Sung Woo Jung Rok Seon Choung Sang Woo Lee Jai Hyun Choi | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013，19，43： | 2 |
