| 3 | A Study of Fluid Interfaces and Moving Contact Lines Using the Lattice Boltzmann Method显示文摘We study the static and dynamical behavior of the contact line between two fluids and a solid plate by means of the Lattice Boltzmann method(LBM).The different fluid phases and their contact with the plate are simulated by means of standard Shan-Chen models. We investigate different regimes and compare the multicomponent vs.the multiphase LBM models near the contact line.A static interface profile is attained with the multiphase model just by balancing the hydrostatic pressure(due to gravity)with a pressure jump at the bottom. In order to study the same problem with the multicomponent case we propose and validate an idea of a body force acting only on one of the two fluid components. In order to reproduce results matching an infinite bath, boundary conditions at the bath side play a key role.We quantitatively compare open and wall boundary conditions and study their influence on the shape of the meniscus against static and lubrication theory solution. | S.Srivastava P.Perlekar L.Biferale M.Sbragaglia J.H.M.ten Thije Boonkkamp F.Toschi | 2013 | Communications in Computational Physics2013,13,3: | 0 |
| 4 | Studies on the Effects of Tolnidamine on Reproductive Functions in Langur Monkey显示文摘Tolnidamine (50 mg / kg body wt. / alternate day for 90 days; oral) was investigated for its contraceptive efficacy, causes of irreversibility, and side-effects by assessment of seminal characteristics and biochemistry, morphometry, libido and clinical investigations in adult male langur monkeys ( Presbytis entellus entellus Dufresne) . Semen weight, volume, colour, pH and libido remained unaltered. Sperm motility, vitality and morphology were impaired with the advancement of the treatment. Increased number of immature germ cells was also noted. Sperm density reduced to severe oligospermia following 45 days of treatment and remained low during recovery period. A marked reversible reduction in seminal GPC and magnesium levels was notieed, while other biachemical parameters remained unchanged. Irreversible changes in various morphometric data of Sertoli cells and spermatogonia were observed. Circulatory levels of testosterone fluctuated within pretreatment range. A significant but reversible elevation in serum creatinine was evident. The possible causes for irreversibility are the ever lasting alterations in the morphometry of Sertoli ceils and spermatogonia. | A.S.Ansari N.K.Lohiya P.ScorzaBarcellona S.Srivastava R.B.Goyal | 1992 | Journal of Reproduction and Contraception1992,3,2: | 0 |
| 5 | Environmental Exposure to Lead as a Risk for Prostate Cancer显示文摘Objective To evaluate the possible role of environmental exposure to lead as a risk factor for prostate pathology in patients suffering from prostate cancer (PCA) and benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). Methods Blood lead (BPb) level was determined in PCA and BPH cases using a graphite furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer and compared with those in a control group living in the similar socioeconomic environment. Results BPb was significantly higher in PCA and BPH cases than in normals (P<0.05). Blood levels of zinc and copper were significantly lower in PCA and BPH cases when compared with controls (P<0.05). In all the three groups, a statistically significant positive correlation between lead and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) measured as malondialdehyde, and negative correlation between blood lead and antioxidant GSH level, indicative of possible generation of reactive oxygen species, were also observed after adjusting for age as a possible confounders. However, positive association between blood lead and TBARS was relatively higher in PCA patients (r=0.77, P<0.05) than in BPH (r=0.32, P<0.05) and normal (r=0.30, P<0.05).Conclusion These results with limited power seem to suggest for the first time that environmental exposure of aging males to lead may be a risk factor for prostate cancer and/or benign prostate hyperplasia possibly through generation of reactive oxygen species and/or reducing the level of zinc which acts as a cellular growth protector. | M.K.J.SIDDIQUI S.SRIVASTAVA 等 | 2002 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2002,15,4: | 0 |
| 6 | Safety Evaluation of a Potent Tetanus Vaccine (250 Lf) in Guinea Pigs (Cavia procellus)显示文摘A subacute toxicity study of a potent tetanus toxoid (250 Lf) was carried out in guinea pigs. The toxoid was injected subcutaneously at the nape of the neck at dose levels of 1.0, 1.5.and 2.0 ml in Groups Ⅱ. Ⅲ. and Ⅳ, respectively. In the controls (Group Ⅰ) 2.0 ml of aluminum phosphate suspension was given in each injection.Periodic evaluations of body weight, food/water intake, general observable behavior, hematology.and blood chemistry in toxoid-injected guinea pigs were similar to those in control guinea pigs. Thus, the toxoid did not cause any side effects up to four times the dose proposed for humans.1990 Academic Press, Inc. | N.SETHI R.K.SRIVASTAVA R.K.SINGH S.SRIVASTAVA | 1990 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences1990,3,3: | 0 |
