| 1 | Effects of herbal extracts and compounds and pharmacological agents on pulmonary fibrosis in animal models:a review显示文摘Pulmonary fibrosis, a chronic inflammatory disease that occurs mainly in older adults, is a serious health threat with few effective treatment options. The etiological aspects of pulmonary fibrosis remain unknown, though some factors such as cigarette smoking, viral infections, surfactant protein polymorphisms, and chronic or high doses use of certain drugs are considered to be risk factors for the progression of pulmonary fibrosis. No standard treatments have been introduced in clinic yet. Although glucocorticoids and antioxidant drugs have been administered, the severe and broad-spectrum adverse effects of glucocorticoids limit their use. Efforts to identify novel therapeutic agents with improved safety profiles are therefore ongoing. In this review, the authors have described the effects of herbal extracts and compounds and certain pharmacological agents on pulmonary fibrosis in animal models. | 2 | Stochastic Transmission Expansion Planning Incorporating Reliability Solved Using SFLA Meta-heuristic Optimization Technique显示文摘This paper addresses stochastic transmission expansion planning(TEP)under uncertain load conditions when reliability is taken into consideration.The main objective of the proposed TEP is to minimize the total planning cost by denoting the place,number,and type of new transmission lines subject to safe operation criteria.In this paper,the objective function consists of two terms,namely,investment cost(IC)of new lines and reliability cost.The reliability cost is incorporated as the loss of load cost(LOLC).Network uncertainties in the form of loads are molded as Gaussian probability distribution function(PDF).Monte-Carlo simulation is applied to tackle the uncertainties.The proposed stochastic TEP is expressed as constrained optimization planning and solved using shuffled frog leaping algorithm(SFLA)SFLA is compared to other optimization techniques such as particle swarm optimization(PSO)and genetic algorithms(GA).Finally,stochastic planning(planning including uncertainty)and deterministic planning(planning excluding uncertainty)are compared to demonstrate impacts of uncertainty on the results.Simulation results in different cases and scenarios verify the effectiveness and viability of the proposed stochastic TEP,including uncertainty and reliability. | Saedeh Alaee Rahmat-Allah Hooshmand Reza Hemmati | 2016 | CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems2016,2,2: | 2 |
| 3 | A multi-functional dynamic state estimator for error validation:measurement and parameter errors and sudden load changes显示文摘We propose a new and efficient algorithm to detect, identify, and correct measurement errors and branch parameter errors of power systems. A dynamic state estimation algorithm is used based on the Kalman filter theory. The proposed algorithm also successfully detects and identifies sudden load changes in power systems. The method uses three normalized vectors to process errors at each sampling time: normalized measurement residual, normalized Lagrange multiplier, and normalized innovation vector. An IEEE 14-bus test system was used to verify and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. | 4 | Semi-automated carotid lumen segmentation in computed tomography angiography images显示文摘Carotid artery stenosis causes narrowing of carotid lumens and may lead to brain infarction. The purpose of this study was to develop a semi-automated method of segmenting vessel walls, surrounding tissues, and more importantly, the carotid artery lumen by contrast computed tomography angiography(CTA) images and to define the severity of stenosis and present a three-dimensional model of the carotid for visual inspection. In vivo contrast CTA images of 14 patients(7 normal subjects and 7 patients undergoing endarterectomy) were analyzed using a multi-step segmentation algorithm. This method uses graph cut followed by watershed and Hessian based shortest path method in order to extract lumen boundary correctly without being corrupted in the presence of surrounding tissues.Quantitative measurements of the proposed method were compared with those of manual delineation by independent board-certified radiologists. The results were quantitatively evaluated using spatial overlap surface distance indices. A slightly strong match was shown in terms of dice similarity coefficient(DSC) = 0.87±0.08; mean surface distance(D_(msd))= 0.32±0.32; root mean squared surface distance(D_(rmssd)) = 0.49±0.54 and maximum surface distance(D_(max))=2.14±2.08 between manual and automated segmentation of common, internal and external carotid arteries, carotid bifurcation and stenotic artery, respectively. Quantitative measurements showed that the proposed method has high potential to segment the carotid lumen and is robust to the changes of the lumen diameter and the shape of the stenosis area at the bifurcation site. | 5 | Cobalt supported on CNTs-covered γ-and nano-structured alumina catalysts utilized for wax selective Fischer-Tropsch synthesis显示文摘Cobalt supported on carbon nanotubes(CNTs)-covered alumina has been recently developed and successfully utilized as a catalyst in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis(FTS).Problems associated with shaping of Co/CNTs into extrudates or pellets as well as catalyst attrition rendered these materials unfavorable for industrial applications.In this investigation regularγ-and nano-structured(N-S)alumina as well as CNTs-covered regularγ-and N-S-alumina supports were impregnated by cobalt nitrate solution to make new cobalt-based catalysts which were also promoted by Ru.The catalysts were characterized and tested in a micro reactor to evaluate their applicability in FTS.γ-Al2O3 was prepared by calcination of bohemite and N-S-Al2O3 was prepared by sol-gel method using aluminum chloride as starting material.Catalyst evaluations indicated that N-S-Al2O3 was superior to regularγ-Al2O3 and that CNTs-covered alumina supports were favored over non-covered ones in terms of activity and heavy hydrocarbon selectivity.These were justified by porosimetric characteristics of the catalysts and existence of CNTs points of view.
