1Predictive value of multi-detector computed tomography for accurate diagnosis of serous cystadenoma:Radiologic-pathologic correlation显示文摘AIM:To identify multi-detector computed tomography(MDCT) features most predictive of serous cystadenomas(SCAs),correlating with histopathology,and to study the impact of cyst size and MDCT technique on reader performance.METHODS:The MDCT scans of 164 patients with surgically verified pancreatic cystic lesions were reviewed by two readers to study the predictive value of various morphological features for establishing a diagnosis of SCAs.Accuracy in lesion characterization and reader conf idence were correlated with lesion size(≤3cm or≥3cm) and scanning protocols(dedicated vs routine).RESULTS:28/164 cysts(mean size,39 mm;range,8-92mm) were diagnosed as SCA on pathology.The MDCT features predictive of diagnosis of SCA were microcystic appearance(22/28,78.6%),surface lobulations(25/28,89.3%) and central scar(9/28,32.4%).Stepwise logistic regression analysis showed that only microcystic appearance was signifi cant for CT diagnosis of SCA(P=0.0001).The sensitivity,specificity and PPV of central scar and of combined microcystic appearance and lobulations were 32.4%/100%/100% and 68%/100%/100%,respectively.The reader confidence was higher for lesions>3cm(P=0.02) and for MDCT scans performed using thin collimation(1.25-2.5mm) compared to routine 5 mm collimation exams(P>0.05).CONCLUSION:Central scar on MDCT is diagnostic of SCA but is seen in only one third of SCAs.Microcystic morphology is the most significant CT feature in diagnosis of SCA.A combination of microcystic appearance and surface lobulations offers accuracy comparable to central scar with higher sensitivity.Anjuli A Shah Nisha I Sainani Avinash Kambadakone Ramesh Zarine K Shah Vikram Deshpande Peter F Hahn Dushyant V Sahani 2009World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,22:11

5Hepatoprotective effect of Solatium xanthocarpum fruit extract against CCl_4 induced acute liver toxicity in experimental animals显示文摘Objective:To investigate the hepatoprotective potential of Solonum xanthocarpum(Solanaceae) (S.xanthocarpum) in experimental rats to validate its traditional claim.Methods:50%ethanolic fruit extract of S.xanthocarpum(SXE,100.200 or 400 mg/kg hods weight) was administered daily for 14davs in experimental animals.Liver injury was induced chemically,by CCl4 administration (1 mL/kg i.p.).The hepatoprotective activity was assessed using various biochemical parameters like aspartate aminotransferase(AST),alanine aminotransferase(ALT).Serum alkaline phosphatise (SALP) and total bilirubin.Meanwhile,in vivo antioxidant activities as lipid peroxidation(LPO), reduced glutathione(GSH).superoxide dismutase(SOD) and calalase(CAT) were screened along with histopathological studies.Results:Obtained results demonstrated that the treatment with SXE significantly(P<0.05- <0.001) and dose-dcpendcntly prevented chemically induced increase in serum levels of hepatic enzymes.Furthermore.SXE significantly(up to P<0.001) reduced the lipid peroxidation in the liver tissue and restored activities of defence antioxidant enzymes GSH,SOU and catalasc towards normal levels.Histopathology of the liver tissue showed that SXE attenuated the hepatocellular necrosis and led to reduction of inflammatory cells inflltration. 7Epidemiology of electrical burns and its impact on quality of life-the developing world scenario显示文摘BACKGROUND Electrical burns are devastating injuries and can cause deep burns with significant morbidity and delayed sequelae.Epidemiological data regarding the etiology,socioeconomic differences and geographic variation are necessary to assess the disease burden and plan an effective preventive strategy.These severe injuries often lead to amputations and thus hamper quality of life in the long term AIM To identify the population at maximum risk of sustaining electrical burns.We also studied the impact of electrical burns on these patients in terms of quality of life as well as return to work.METHODS The study was conducted at a tertiary referral teaching hospital over a period of eighteen months.All patients with a history of sustaining electrical burns and satisfying the inclusion criteria were included in the study.All relevant epidemiological parameters and treatment details were recorded.The patients were subsequently followed up at 3 mo,6 mo and 9 mo.The standardized Brief Version of the Burn Specic Health Scale(BSHS-B)was adopted to assess quality of life.Statistical analysis was conducted using IBM SPSS statistics(version 22.0).A P value of<0.05 was considered statistically significant.RESULTS A total of 103 patients were included in the study.The mean age of the patients was 31.83 years(range 18-75 years).A significant majority(91.3%)of patients were male.The mean total body surface area(TBSA)in these patients was 21.1%.In most of the patients(67%),the injury was occupation-related.High voltage injuries were implicated in 72.8%of patients.Among the 75 high voltage burn patients,31(41%)required amputation.The mean number of surgeries the patients underwent in hospital was 2.03(range 1 to 4).The quality of life parameters amongst the patients sustaining high voltage electrical burns were poorer when compared to low voltage injuries at all follow-up intervals across nine domains.In eight of these domains,the difference was statistically significant.Similarly,the scores among the amputees were poorer when compared to non-amputees.The difference was statistically significant in six domains.CONCLUSION Electrical burns remain a problem in the developing world.Most injuries are occupation-related.The quality of life in patients with high voltage burns and amputees remains poor.Work resumption was almost impossible for amputees.These patients could not regain pre-injury status.Steps should be taken to create awareness and to implement an effective preventive strategy to safeguard against electrical injuries.Giriraj Gandhi Atul Parashar Ramesh K Sharma 2022World Journal of Critical Care Medicine2022,11,1:3
8Effect of Commiphora mukul gum resin on hepatic marker enzymes,lipid peroxidation and antioxidants status in pancreas and heart of streptozotocin induced diabetic rats显示文摘Objective:To study the antioxidant efficacy of Commiphora mukul(C.mukul) gum resin ethanolic extract in streptozotocin(STZ) induced diabetic rats.Methods:The male Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into four groups of eight animals each:Control group(C),CM-treated control group(C_+CMEE),Diabetic control group(D),CM- treated diabetic group(D_+CMEE).Diabetes was induced by intraperitoneal injection of STZ(55 mg/kg/ bwt).After being confirmed the diabetic rats were treated with C.mukul gum resin ethanolic extract(CMEE) for 60 days.The biochemical estimations like antioxidant,oxidative stress marker enzymes and hepatic marker enzymes of tissues were performed.Results:The diabetic rats showed increased level of enzymatic activities aspartate aminotransaminase(AST),alanine aminotransaminase(ALT) in liver and kidney and oxidative markers like lipid peroxidation(LPO) and protein oxidation(PO) in pancreas and heart. 10Evaluation of antihepatotoxic potential of Solanum xanthocarpum fruit extract against antitubercular drugs induced hepatopathy in experimental rodents显示文摘Objective:To assess the hepatoprotective effect of Solanum xanthocarpum(S. xanthocarpum) fruit extract against antitubercular drug-induced liver toxicity in experimental animals.Methods:Ethanolic(50%) fruit extract ofS. xanthocarpum(100, 200 and 400 mg/kg bw) was administered daily for 35 days in experimental animals. Liver toxicity was induced by combination of three antitubercular drugs [isoniazid(I) 7.5 mg/kg, rifampicin(R) 10 mg/kg and pyrazinamide(P) 35 mg/kg] given orally as suspension for 35 days in rats. The hepatoprotective activity was assessed using various biochemical parameters like aspartate aminotransferase(AST), alanine aminotransferase(ALT), alkaline phosphatise(ALP), total bilirubin(TBL), albumin(ALB), total protein(TP), lactate dehydroginase(LDH), and serum cholesterol(CHL). Meanwhile,in vivoantioxidant activities as lipid peroxidation(LPO), reduced glutathione(GSH), superoxide dismutase(SOD) and catalase(CAT) were measured in rat liver homogenate. The biochemical observations were supplemented by histopathological examination.Results:The results demonstrated that treatment withS.xanthocarpumsignificantly(P<0.05-P<0.001) and dose-dependently prevented drug induced increase in serum levels of hepatic enzymes. Furthermore,S. xanthocarpumsignificantly(up toP<0.001) reduced the LPO in the liver tissue and restored activities of defence antioxidant enzymes GSH, SOD and CAT towards normal levels. 11Structural,Wettability and Optical Investigation of Titanium Oxynitride Coatings:Effect of Various Sputtering Parameters显示文摘The objective of the present work is to investigate the effect of various sputtering parameters such as nitrogen flow rate,deposition time and sputtering pressure on structural,wettability and optical properties of titanium oxynitride films deposited on glass substrate by reactive magnetron sputtering.The X-ray diffraction graphs of titanium oxynitride films show evolution of various textures of TiO_xN_y and TiN phases with increasing nitrogen flow rate and deposition time,but an increase in sputtering pressure from 4.0 to 8.0 Pa results in decline of various textures observed for TiO_xN_y and TiN phases.The stress and strain calculated by sin^2Ψ method are compressive,which decrease with increasing nitrogen flow rate from 55 to 100 sccm(standard cubic centimeter per minute) and increase with increasing deposition time from 80 to 140 min due to atomic penning effect and increasing thickness of the deposited films.The titanium oxynitride films have contact angle values above 90 deg.,indicating that films are hydrophobic.The maximum contact angle of 109.1 deg.is observed at deposition time of 140 min.This water repellent property can add value to potential protective,wear and corrosion resistant application of titanium oxynitride films.The band gap decreases from 1.98 to 1.83 eV as nitrogen flow rate is increased from 55 to 100 sccm;it decreases from 1.93 to 1.79 eV as deposition time is increased from 80 to 140 min as more nitrogen incorporation results in higher negative potential of valence band N2p orbital.But it increases from 2.26 to 2.34 eV for titanium oxynitride films as sputtering pressure increases from 4.0 to 8.0 Pa.Sushant K Rawal Amit Kumar Chawla R.Jayaganthan Ramesh Chandra 2012Journal of Materials Science & Technology2012,28,6:2
