1Multi-modality imaging review of congenital abnormalities of kidney and upper urinary tract显示文摘Congenital abnormalities of the kidney and urinary tract(CAKUT) include a wide range of abnormalities ranging from asymptomatic ectopic kidneys to life threatening renal agenesis(bilateral). Many of them are detected in the antenatal or immediate postnatal with a significant proportion identified in the adult population with varying degree of severity. CAKUT can be classified on embryological basis in to abnormalities in the renal parenchymal development, aberrant embryonic migration and abnormalities of the collecting system. Renal parenchymal abnormalities include multi cystic dysplastic kidneys, renal hypoplasia, number(agenesis or supernumerary), shape and cystic renal diseases. Aberrant embryonic migration encompasses abnormal location and fusion anomalies. Collecting system abnormalities include duplex kidneys and Pelvi ureteric junction obstruction. Ultrasonography(US) is typically the first imaging performed as it is easily available, noninvasive and radiation free used both antenatally and postnatally. Computed tomography(CT) and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) are useful to confirm the ultrasound detected abnormality, detection of complex malformations, demonstration of collecting system and vascular anatomy and more importantly for early detection of complications like renal calculi, infection and malignancies. 2The role of Epstein-Barr virus in multiple sclerosis:from molecular pathophysiology to in vivo imaging显示文摘Multiple sclerosis(MS) is a disease of the central nervous system characterized by inflammation, demyelination, and neuronal damage. Environmental and genetic factors are associated with the risk of developing MS, but the exact cause still remains unidentified. Epstein-Barr virus(EBV), vitamin D, and smoking are among the most well-established environmental risk factors in MS. Infectious mononucleosis, which is caused by delayed primary EBV infection, increases the risk of developing MS. EBV may also contribute to MS pathogenesis indirectly by activating silent human endogenous retrovirus-W. The emerging B-cell depleting therapies, particularly anti-CD20 agents such as rituximab, ocrelizumab, as well as the fully human ofatumumab, have shown promising clinical and magnetic resonance imaging benefit. One potential effect of these therapies is the depletion of memory B-cells, the primary reservoir site where EBV latency occurs. In addition, EBV potentially interacts with both genetic and other environmental factors to increase susceptibility and disease severity of MS. This review examines the role of EBV in MS pathophysiology and summarizes the recent clinical and radiological findings, with a focus on B-cells and in vivo imaging. 3An analytical solution to wellbore stability using Mogi-Coulomb failure criterion显示文摘Deep wellbores/boreholes are generally drilled into rocks for oil and gas exploration,monitoring of tectonic stresses purposes.Wellbore and tunnel in depth are generally in true triaxial stress state,even if the ground is under axisymmetric loading condition.Stability of such wellbores is very critical and collapse of wellbore must be avoided.Mogi-Coulomb failure criterion is a better representation of rock strength under true triaxial condition.In this paper,an analytical solution is proposed using Mogi-Coulomb failure criterion.The solution is obtained for rock mass exhibiting elastic-perfectly plastic or elastic-brittle-plastic behaviour considering in-plane isotropic stresses.The proposed solution is then compared with exact analytical solution for incompressible material and experimental results of thickwall cylinder.It is shown that the results obtained by the proposed analytical solution are in good agreement with the experimental results and exact analytical solution.A reduction of about 13%e20%in plastic zone from the proposed closed-form solution is observed,as compared to the results from the finite element method(FEM)based Mohr-Coulomb criterion.Next,the influences of various parameters such as Poisson’s ratio,internal pressure(mud weight),dilation angle,and out-of-plane stress are studied in terms of stress and deformation responses of wellbore.The results of the parametric study reveal that variation in the out-of-plane stress has an inverse relation with the radius of plastic zone.Poisson’s ratio does not have an appreciable influence on the tangential stress,radial stress and radial deformation.Dilation angle has a direct relation with the deformation.Internal pressure is found to have an inverse relation with the radial deformation and the radius of plastic zone.Aditya Singh K.Seshagiri Rao Ramanathan Ayothiraman 2019Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2019,11,6:6
4A comparative study on the antioxidant activity of methanolic leaf extracts of Ficus religiosa L,Chromolaena odorata(L.) King & Rabinson,Cynodon dactylon(L.) Pers.and Tridax procumbens L.显示文摘Objective:To compare the antioxidative effects of the methanolic leaf extracts of Ficus religiosa (F.religiosa),Chromolaena odorata(C.odorata),Cynodon dactylon(C.dactylon) and Trida,x procumbens(T.procumbens) as well as the contents of antioxidants in the extracts.Methods: Total phenol and total flavanoid contents were measured according to the standard procedures. The total antioxidant capacity was determined using the phosphomolybdenum method.Reducing power was determined by the potassium ferrieyanide reducing method.The free radical scavenging activity was measured by 2,2’-Diphenyl-l-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) assay.Results: Quantitative phytochemical analysis of total phenol content showed that C.odorata had the highest content of phenolic compounds significantly followed by F.religiosa,T.procumbens and C.dactylon.As for the total flavanoids content,F.religiosa had the highest content,followed by C.odorata,T.procumbens and C.daxtylon.Study on the total antioxidant capacity revealed that F.religiosa,C.dactylon and C.odorata showed higher total antioxidant capacity.T.procumbens showed the lowest capacity.Meanwhile,T.procumbens and C.odorata have the highest reducing power activity followed by F.religiosa and C.dactylon.The results of DPPH radical scavenging activity indicated that T.procumbens induced the largest elevation as the concentration of its extract increased,followed by C.odorata and F.religiosa and C.dactylon.Conclusions:The present study demonstrates the antioxidative capacity of all the four plant species.Of all the plants,C.odorata,a perennial weed plant showed potentially a high antioxidant activity,with higher phenolic and flavonoids contents.The data suggest that C.odorata can be best utilized in developing bioantioxidants.Melinda Krishanti P Xavier Rathinam Marimuthu Kasi Diwakar Ayyalu Ramanathan Surash Kathiresan Sadasivam Sreeramanan Subramaniam 2010Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,5:6
5Antitumor activity and antioxident role of Bauhinia racemosa against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma in Swiss albino mice显示文摘AIM: To study the antitumor effect and antioxidant role of Bauhinia racemosa. METHODS: Antitumor activity and antioxidant status of methanol extract (50, 100, and 200 mg/kg) of Bauhinia racemosa stem bark was evaluated against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) tumor in mice. Acute and short-term toxicity studies were performed initially in order to ascertain the safety of methanol extract of Bauhinia racemosa (MEBR). After 24 h of tumor inoculation, the extract was administered daily for 14 d. After administration of the last dose followed by 18 h fasting, mice were then sacrificed for observation of antitumor activity. The effect of MEBR on the growth of transplantable murine tumor, life span of EAC bearing hosts and simultaneous alterations in the hematological profile and liver biochemical parameters (lipid peroxidation, antioxidant enzymes) were estimated. RESULTS: The MEBR showed decrease in tumor volume, packed cell volume and viable cell count, and increased the nonviable cell count and mean survival time thereby increasing life span of EAC tumor bearing mice. Hematological profile reverted to more or less normal levels in extract treated mice. Treatment with MEBR decreased the levels of lipid peroxidation and increased the levels of glutathione, superoxide dismutase and catalase. 6Current concepts in total femoral replacement显示文摘Total femoral replacement(TFR) is a salvage arthroplasty procedure used as an alternative to lower limb amputation. Since its initial description in the mid-20^(th) century, this procedure has been used in a variety of oncologic and non-oncologic indications. The most compelling advantage of TFR is the achievement of immediate fixation which permits early mobilization. It is anticipated that TFR will be increasingly performed as the rate of revision arthroplasty rises worldwide. The existing literature is mainly composed of a rather heterogeneous mix of retrospective case series and a wide assortment of case reports. Numerous TFR prostheses are currently available and the surgeon must understand the unique implications of each implant design. Long-term functional outcomes are dependent on adherence to proper technique and an appropriate physical therapy program for postoperative rehabilitation. Revision TFR is mainly performed for periprosthetic infection and the severe femoral bone loss associated with aseptic revisions. Depending on the likelihood of attaining infection clearance, it may sometimes be advisable to proceed directly to hip disarticulation without attempting salvage of the TFR. Other reported complications of TFR include hip joint instability, limb length discrepancy, device failure, component loosening, patellar maltracking and delayed wound healing. 8Acute liver injury induced by weight-loss herbal supplements显示文摘We report three cases of patients with acute liver injury induced by weight-loss herbal supplements. One patient took Hydroxycut while the other two took Herbalife supplements. Liver biopsies for all patients dem onstrated f indings consistent with drug-induced acute liver injury. To our knowledge, we are the fi rst instit ute to report acute liver injury from both of these two typ es of weight-loss herbal supplements together as a case series. 9Role of negative pressure wound therapy in total hip and knee arthroplasty显示文摘Negative-pressure wound therapy(NPWT) has been a successful modality of wound management which is in widespread use in several surgical fields. The main mechanisms of action thought to play a role in enhancing wound healing and preventing surgical site infection are macrodeformation and microdeformation of the wound bed, fluid removal, and stabilization of the wound environment. Due to the devastating consequences of infection in the setting of joint arthroplasty, there has been some interest in the use of NPWT following total hip arthroplasty and total knee arthroplasty. However, there is still a scarcity of data reporting on the use of NPWT within this field and most studies are limited by small sample sizes, high variability of clinical settings and end-points. There is little evidence to support the use of NPWT as an adjunctive treatment for surgical wound drainage, and for this reason surgical intervention should not be delayed when indicated. The prophylactic use of NPWT after arthroplasty in patients that are at high risk for postoperative wound drainage appears to have the strongest clinical evidence. 10DIAGNOSIS OF WAVE ACTIVITY OVER RAINBAND OF LANDFALL TYPHOON显示文摘A generalized wave-activity density,which is defined as an absolute value of production of three-dimensional vorticity vector perturbation and gradient of general potential temperature perturbation,is introduced and its wave-activity law is derived in Cartesian coordinates. Constructed in an agoestrophic and nonhydrostatic dynamical framework,the generalized wave-activity law may be applicable to diagnose mesoscale weather systems leading to heavy rainfall. The generalized wave-activity density and wave-activity flux divergence were calculated with the objective analysis data to investigate the character of wave activity over heavy-rainfall regions.The primary dynamical processes responsible for disturbance associated with heavy rainfall were also analyzed. It was shown that the generalized wave-activity density was closely correlated to the observed 6-h accumulative rainfall. This indicated that the wave activity or disturbance was evident over the frontal and landfall-typhoon heavy-rainfall regions in middle and lower troposphere. 12Development of processing maps for as-cast ZE41A magnesium alloy显示文摘The hot deformation behavior of as-cast ZE41A magnesium alloy was studied by employing both processing maps and microstructural observations. To obtain processing map, hot compression tests were performed over a range of strain rates (0.001-1.0 s-1) and temperatures (250-450 ℃). Power dissipation efficiency (η) and instability parameter [ξ (ε)] were evaluated and processing maps were developed for the strain of 0.5. The dynamic recrystallization (DRX) and instable zones were identified and validated through micrographs. 13Attenuation of MET-mediated migration and invasion in hepatocellular carcinoma cells by SOCS1显示文摘AIM To investigate the role of suppressor of cytokine signaling 1(SOCS1)in regulating MET-mediated invasive potential of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)cells.METHODSStable derivatives of mouse(Hepa1-6)and human(hep3B,Hep G2)HCC cell lines expressing SOCS1or control vector were evaluated for their ability to migrate towards hepatocyte growth factor(HGF)in the transwell migration assay,invade extracellular matrix in response to HGF stimulation in a 3-D invasion assay by confocal microscopy,and to undergo anchorageindependent proliferation in semisolid agar.Following intravenous and intrasplenic inoculation into NOD.scid.gamma mice,the ability of Hepa cells to form othotopic tumors was evaluated.Following HGF stimulation of Hepa and Hep3B cells,expression of proteins implicated in epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition was evaluated by western blot and qR T-PCR.RESULTS SOCS1 expression in mouse and human HCC cells inhibited HGF-induced migration through matrigel.In the 3-D invasion assay,HGF stimulation induced invasion of HCC cells across type-Ⅰcollagen matrix,and SOCS1expression significantly reduced the depth of invasion.SOCS1 expression also reduced the number and size of colonies formed by anchorage-independent growth in semisolid agar.Following intravenous inoculation,control Hepa cell formed large tumor nodules that obliterated the liver whereas the SOCS1-expressing Hepa cells formed significantly smaller nodules.Tumors formed by SOCS1-expressing cells showed reduced phosphorylation of STAT3 and ERK that was accompanied by reduced levels of MET protein expression.HGF stimulated Hepa cells expressing SOCS1 showed increased expression of E-cadherin and decreased expression of EGR1,SNAI1and ZEB1.Comparable results were obtained with Hep3B cells.SOCS1 expressing HCC cells also showed reduced levels of EGR1 and SNAI1 transcripts.CONCLUSION Our findings indicate that loss of SOCS1-dependent control over epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition may contribute to MET-mediated migration,invasion and metastatic growth of HCC.Yirui Gui Md Gulam Musawwir Khan Diwakar Bobbala Claire Dubois Sheela Ramanathan Caroline Saucier Subburaj Ilangumaran 2017World Journal of Gastroenterology2017,23,36:3

15Effect of angiotensin converting enzyme gene I/D polymorphism in South Indian children with nephrotic syndrome显示文摘Nephrotic syndrome is one of the most common childhood kidney diseases. It is mostly found in the age group of 2 to 8 years. Around 10%-15% of nephrotic syndrome cases are non-responders of steroid treatment(SRNS).Angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE)(I/D) gene association studies are important for detecting kidney disease and herein we assessed the association of ACE(I/D) polymorphism with nephrotic syndrome in South Indian children. We recruited 260 nephrotic syndrome(162 boys and 98 girls) and 218(140 boys and 78 girls) control subjects. ACE I/D polymorphism was analyzed by PCR using genotype allele specific primers. In ACE(I/D), we did not find significant association for the ungrouped data of nephrotic syndrome children and the control subjects. Kidney biopsies were done in 86 nephrotic syndrome cases(minimal change disease, n = 51;focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, n = 27;diffuse mesangial proliferation, n = 8). We segregated them into the minimal change disease/focal segmental glomerulosclerosis groups and observed that the ACE’D’ allele was identified with borderline significance in cases of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and the ’Ⅰ’ allele was assessed as having very weak association in cases of minimal change disease. ’Ⅱ’ genotype was weakly associated with minimal change disease. Gender specific analysis revealed weak association of’ID’ genotype with female nephrotic syndrome in females. Dominant expression of DD genotype was observed in males with nephrotic syndrome. Our finding indicated that ACE(I/D) has moderate association with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis. 19In vitro antiplasmodial activity of Spiro benzofuran compound from mangrove plant of Southern India显示文摘Objective:To find out the in vitro antipalsmodial activities of mangrove leaf extracts.Methods: In vitro antiplasmodial assay was carried out with 13 different mangrove plants.Column chromatography was performed with the most potent Agecerious corniculatum(A.corniculatum) by using various solvent extractions.GC-MS was also preformed with the most potent ethanolic fraction of the A.corniculatum extract.Results:Of the 13 mangroves plants, A.corniculatum showed maximum percentage of parasitemia suppression(94.98±1.16)%.Column chromatography was performed with A.corniculatum with different solvents and the methanolic extract showed maximum percentage(99.73±1.63)%of parasitemia inhibition at 150μg/mL concentration with the IC50 value of(29.28±3.23)μg/mL concentration.The results of the GC-MS analysis observed that,the most potent methanolic extract showed maximum retention time(30.687 RT) and the chemical class was identified as Spiro[benzofuran-2(3 H),1’-(3 cyclohexane)-2’,3- dione,7-chloro-4’,6]which was responsible for the antiplasmodial activity.Conclusions:It is concluded from the present study that,the chemical constituents of A.corniculatum collected from Pichavaram mangrove forest can be used as a putative antiplasmodial drugs in future.Sundaram Ravikumar Ganesan Ramanathan Murugesan Gnanadesigan 2012Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2012,5,5:2
20How do serotonergic psychedelics treat depression:The potential role of neuroplasticity显示文摘Depression is a common mental disorder and one of the leading causes of disability around the world.Monoaminergic antidepressants often take weeks to months to work and are not effective for all patients.This has led to a search for a better understanding of the pathogenesis of depression as well as to the development of novel antidepressants.One such novel antidepressant is ketamine,which has demonstrated both clinically promising results and contributed to new explanatory models of depression,including the potential role of neuroplasticity in depression.Early clinical trials are now showing promising results of serotonergic psychedelics for depression;however,their mechanism of action remains poorly understood.This paper seeks to review the effect of depression,classic antidepressants,ketamine,and serotonergic psychedelics on markers of neuroplasticity at a cellular,molecular,electrophysiological,functional,structural,and psychological level to explore the potential role that neuroplasticity plays in the treatment response of serotonergic psychedelics.Hewa Artin Sidney Zisook Dhakshin Ramanathan 2021World Journal of Psychiatry2021,11,6:2
