| 1 | Fast and interpretable classification of small X-ray diffraction datasets using data augmentation and deep neural networks显示文摘X-ray diffraction(XRD)data acquisition and analysis is among the most time-consuming steps in the development cycle of novel thin-film materials.We propose a machine learning-enabled approach to predict crystallographic dimensionality and space group from a limited number of thin-film XRD patterns.We overcome the scarce data problem intrinsic to novel materials development by coupling a supervised machine learning approach with a model-agnostic,physics-informed data augmentation strategy using simulated data from the Inorganic Crystal Structure Database(ICSD)and experimental data.As a test case,115 thin-film metalhalides spanning three dimensionalities and seven space groups are synthesized and classified.After testing various algorithms,we develop and implement an all convolutional neural network,with cross-validated accuracies for dimensionality and space group classification of 93 and 89%,respectively.We propose average class activation maps,computed from a global average pooling layer,to allow high model interpretability by human experimentalists,elucidating the root causes of misclassification.Finally,we systematically evaluate the maximum XRD pattern step size(data acquisition rate)before loss of predictive accuracy occurs,and determine it to be 0.16°2θ,which enables an XRD pattern to be obtained and classified in 5.5 min or less. | Felipe Oviedo Zekun Ren Shijing Sun Charles Settens Zhe Liu Noor Titan Putri Hartono Savitha Ramasamy Brian L.DeCost Siyu I.P.Tian Giuseppe Romano Aaron Gilad Kusne Tonio Buonassisi | 2019 | npj Computational Materials2019,,1: | 15 |

| 3 | Eurycoma Longifolia as a potential adoptogen of male sexual health: a systematic review on clinical studies显示文摘Eurycoma longifolia(EL) has been well recognized as a booster of male sexual health. Over the past few decades, numerous in vivo animal studies and human clinical trials have been conducted across the globe to explore the promising role of EL in managing various male sexual disorders, which include erectile dysfunction, male infertility, low libido, and downregulated testosterone levels. The aim of the present review is to analyze and summarize the literature on human clinical trials which revealed the clinical significance and therapeutic feasibility of EL in improving male sexual health. This systematic review is focused on the following databases: Medline, Wiley Online Library, Bio Med Central, Hindawi, Web of Knowledge, Pub Med Central and Google Scholar, using search terms such as 'Eurycoma longifolia', 'EL', 'Tongkat Ali', 'male sexual health', 'sexual infertility', 'erectile dysfunction', 'male libido', and 'testosterone levels'. Notably, only human clinical studies published between 2000 and 2014 were selected and thoroughly reviewed for relevant citations. Out of 150 articles, 11 met the inclusion criteria. The majority of articles included were randomized placebo-controlled trials, multiple cohort studies, or pilot trials. All these studies demonstrated considerable effects of EL on male sexual health disorders. Among them, 7 studies revealed remarkable association between the use of EL and the efficacy in the treatment of male sexual disorders, and remaining 4 studies failed to demonstrate sufficient effects on male sexual health. In summary, there is convincing evidence for the prominence of EL in improving the male sexual health. | 4 | Effect of probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum Dad-13 powder consumption on the gut microbiota and intestinal health of overweight adults显示文摘BACKGROUND Shifting on lifestyle,diet,and physical activity contributed on increasing number of obese people around the world.Multiple factors influence the development of obesity.Some research suggested that gut microbiota(GM)plays an important role in nutrient absorption and energy regulation of individuals,thus affecting their nutritional status.Report of Indonesia Basic Health Research showed that the prevalence of obesity in every province tended to increase.Although the root cause of obesity is excessive calorie intake compared with expenditure,the differences in gut microbial ecology between healthy and obese humans may affect energy homeostasis.GM affect body weight,especially obesity.Probiotics that are consumed while alive and able to colonize in the intestine are expected to increase the population of good bacteria,especially Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli,and suppress pathogens such as Enterobacteriaceae and Staphylococcus.The strain of L.plantarum Dad-13 has been demonstrated to survive and colonize in the gastrointestinal tract of healthy Indonesian adults who consume fermented milk containing L.plantarum Dad-13.The consumption of probiotic L.plantarum Dad-13 powder decreased E.coli and non-E.coli coliform bacteria in school-aged children in Indonesia.L.plantarum is a dominant bacterium in the average Indonesian’s GM.For this reason,this bacterium is probably a more suitable probiotic for Indonesians.AIM To determine the effect of the consumption of indigenous probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum Dad-13 powder in overweight adults in Yogyakarta(Indonesia).METHODS Sixty overweight volunteers with a body mass index(BMI)equal to or greater than 25 consume indigenous probiotic powder L.plantarum Dad-13(2×109 CFU/gram/sachet)for 90 d.The study was a randomized,double-blind,placebocontrolled study.The volunteers filled in a diary on a daily basis,which consisted of questions on study product intake(only during ingestion period),other food intake,number of bowel movements,fecal quality(consistency and color),any medications received,and any symptom of discomfort,such as diarrhea,constipation,vomiting,gassing,sensation of illness,etc.Fecal samples and the subjects’diaries were collected on the morning of day 10+1,which was marked as the end of the baseline period and the start of the ingestion period.During the ingestion period(from day 11 to day 101),several parameters to measure and analyze the results included body weight and height(once a month),the lipid profile,GM analysis using MiSeq,short-chain fatty acid(SCFA)analysis using gas chromatography,and the measurement of fecal pH using a pH meter.RESULTS The consumption of indigenous probiotic powder L.plantarum Dad-13 caused the average body weight and BMI of the probiotic group to decrease from 84.54±17.64 kg to 83.14±14.71 kg and 33.10±6.15 kg/m2 to 32.57±5.01 kg/m2,respectively.No significant reduction of body weight and BMI in the placebo group was observed.An analysis of the microbiota showed that the number of Bacteroidetes,specifically Prevotella,increased significantly,while that of Firmicutes significantly decreased.No significant change in lipid profile in both groups was found.Also,no significant change in SCFAs(e.g.,butyrate,propionate,acetic acid)and pH level was found after the consumption of the probiotic.CONCLUSION No significant differences in pH before and after ingestion were observed in both the probiotic and placebo groups as well as in the lipid profile of both cholesterol and triglyceride,high-density lipoprotein(HDL),low-density lipoprotein(LDL),and the LDL/HDL ratio.In addition,no significant changes in the concentration of SCFAs(e.g.,acetic acid,propionate,and butyrate)were found after consumption.Interestingly,a significant decrease in body weight and BMI(P<0.05)was determined in the treatment group.An analysis of GM shows that L.plantarum Dad-13 caused the Firmicutes population to decrease and the Bacteroidetes population(especially Prevotella)to increase. | Endang Sutriswati Rahayu Mariyatun Mariyatun Nancy Eka Putri Manurung Pratama Nur Hasan Phatthanaphong Therdtatha Riko Mishima Husnita Komalasari Nurul Ain Mahfuzah Fathyah Hanum Pamungkaningtyas Wahyu Krisna Yoga Dina Aulia Nurfiana Stefanie Yolanda Liwan Mohammad Juffrie Agung Endro Nugroho Tyas Utami | 2021 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2021,27,1: | 6 |

| 6 | Val279Phe variant of Lp-PLA2 is a risk factor for a subpopulation of Indonesia patients with acute myocardial infarction显示文摘Lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2(Lp-PLA2),a member of the phospholipase A2 superfamily,is an enzyme that hydrolyses phospholipids,is found in blood circulation as a sign of inflammation,and takes a role in atherogenesis.There is an epidemiologic relation between increased Lp-PLA2 levels and coronary heart disease.Lp-PLA2 is an enzyme that is produced by macrophages and takes a role as an independent predictor of a coronary event.A genetic variant of Val279Phe on the Lp-PLA2 gene has been reported with various results in Japan,China,Korea,and Caucasian populations.This study aims to analyse the influence of the Val279Phe genetic variant on acute myocardial infarction(AMI)at Saiful Anwar Hospital,Indonesia.This study was conducted on 151 patients(111 AMI patients and 40 non-AMI patients).The genetic variant of Val279Phe was identified through a genotyping method.There were no significant differences in age,total cholesterol level,LDL-C(low-density lipoprotein cholesterol)level,and family history data between AMI and non-AMI patients.However,AMI patients had low HDL-C(high-density lipoprotein cholesterol),triglyceride levels,dyslipidaemia,and hypertension risk factors compared to non-AMI patients.The frequency of the GG genotype(279Val)was dominant in both AMI and non-AMI groups.Further analysis suggested that the GG genotype has a 2.9 times greater risk of AMI compared to the GT/TT genotype(279Phe).This study concluded that the Val279Phe genetic variant undoubtedly influenced AMI risk,which is a warrant for further development of early detection and improving strategy to prevent AMI in patients. | Miryanti Cahyaningtias Mohammad Saifur Rohman Widodo Andi Wahjono Adi Rina Yuda Yanna Indrayana Jayarani Fatimah Putri Rusdianto Mifetika Lukitasari Dadang Hendrawan | 2016 | Genes & Diseases2016,3,4: | 3 |

| 14 | Preparation of PLGA-collagen hybrid scaffolds with controlled pore structures for cartilage tissue engineering显示文摘Scaffolds used for cartilage tissue engineering should have high mechanical strength and well-controlled pore structure to provide suitable microenvironments for functional tissue regeneration. In this study, hybrid scaffolds which had open and interconnected pore structure and high mechanical property were prepared by hybridization of PLGA mesh and collagen using ice particulates as porogen templates. Embossing ice particulates template was used to form open pore structures on the scaffold surfaces. Free ice particulates were used to generate interconnected bulk pores in the scaffolds. Hybridization with PLGA mesh provided the scaffolds with high mechanical property. Bovine articular chondrocytes were cultured in the hybrid scaffolds. The unique pore structures facilitated the homogeneous distribution of chondrocytes and cartilaginous matrices throughout the scaffolds. Subcutaneous implantation demonstrated cartilage-like tissue regeneration.
