2EFFECTIVE DISCHARGE CALCULATION GUIDE显示文摘This paper presents a procedure for calculating the effective discharge for rivers with alluvial channels. An alluvial river adjusts the bankfull shape and dimensions of its channel to the wide range of flows that mobilize the boundary sediments. It has been shown that time-averaged river morphology is adjusted to the flow that, over a prolonged period, transports most sediment. This is termed the effective discharge. The effective discharge mayo be calculated provided that the necessary data are available or can be synthesized. The procedure for effective discharge calculation presented here is designed to have general applicability, have the capability to be applied consistently, and represent the effects of physical processes responsible for determining the channel. dimensions. 3EXPERIMENTS ON FLOW AROUND A CYLINDER IN A SCOURED CRANNEL BED显示文摘The flow pattern around a cylinder, installed in a scourd channel bed, was experimentally investigated. Detailed measurements of the instantaneous 3D velocities were performed by using an Acoustic Doppler Velocity Profiler (ADVP), from which the profiles of the time^averaged velocities and turbulence stresses were obtained. It is shown that the influence of thC cylinder and of the scour hole alters the approach flow; this is essentially confined to the viciulty of the cylinder and to the inside of the scour hole. The horseshoe vortex is measured as a flow reversal inside the scour hole, formed by the downward flow along the cylinder face and the reversed flow at the scour bed.I. ISTIARTO and W.H. GRAF 1 Res. 4AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON BEDMAKING AND CATASTROPHIC PROCESSES IN ISLAND BRAIDED CHANNEL显示文摘In this paper 4 Principles for developing island braided channels are discussed. Based on those principles an island braided bedmaking experiment is designed by a process-response model with 12 steps and the Lower Yangtze River as an example to be taken. The bedmaking experiment takes 10 runs and 180 running hours and channel changes are described. The paper also analyses controlling factors on island braided channel hydraulic geometries. 5BED CONDITIONS OF NON-EQUILIBRIUM TRANSPORT OF SUSPENDED SEDIMENT显示文摘The bed conditions for suspended sediment transport under non-equilibrum conditions are discussed herein this paper. Based on some experimental data and numerical results computed from different bed conditions, it is reasoned that the Dirichlet condition is correct for the process of erosion while the Neumann condition holds for deposition. 6RATIONAL BASIS FOR SUSPENDED SEDIMENT MODELING显示文摘This paper presents a rational basis to model the transport of suspended sediment. The looseboundary condition for 3D models and the adjustment coefficients for both the depth-integrated 2D and laterally integrated 1D models are treated comprehensively. A combination of Dirichlet and Neumann conditions is proposed as the loose-boundary condition. The adjustment coefficient for 2D models is obtained on the basis of the proposed boundary condition and analytical solutions developed for some simple cases of non-equilibrium transport of sediment in uniform flows. The adjustment coefficient for 1D models for natural rivers is further obtained from lateral integration. 8ON THE PHYSICS OF FLOW-DRIVEN SEDIMENTS (BED-LOAD)显示文摘More than three dozen significant formulae for bed-load transport have been developed over a period of more than 100 years with varying degrees of success. Major problems have been the use of completely or partly empirical approaches and too few data for fitting. This paper presents an analytical formulation for bed-load transport. It is based on a balance of forces for the determination of the thickness of the moving bed-load layer and on the determination of the velocity of this layer. The formula derived is compared to a set of approx. 2000 data published by 32 authors. It is demonstrated that the basic form of the MPM-formula is a special case of the analytical solution. The derivation also includes the effect of bed features such as ripples and dunes on quantitative transport.Ulrich C. E.
