2Efficacy and safety of herbal steam bath in allergic rhinitis: a randomized controlled trial显示文摘Background: Allergic rhinitis is a nasal mucosa inflammatory disorder that is induced by exposure to an allergen which results in four major symptoms, including anterior or posterior rhinorrhea, sneezing, nasal itching and nasal congestion. Allergic rhinitis may result in sleep disturbance, fatigue, depression of mood-cognitive function and quality of life impairment.Objective: This study examined the efficacy and safety of herbal steam bath used for the reduction of allergic rhinitis symptoms, and evaluated treatment satisfaction and improvements in quality of life among participating patients with allergic rhinitis.Design, setting, participants and intervention: A single-blind randomized controlled trial was conducted at Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine Hospital between June and December 2016, using 64 subjects,equally divided into two groups. The treatment group received herbal steam bath and the control group received steam bath without herbs for 30 min 3 times a week for 4 consecutive weeks.Main outcome measures: Allergic rhinitis symptoms, such as itchy nose, runny nose, sneezing, nasal congestion and watery eyes, were measured using the visual analog scale at weeks 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4.Quality of life was assessed at week 0 and week 4.Results: The characteristics(sex, age, marital status, education, allergic rhinitis symptoms and frequency of symptoms) at the baseline were not statistically different(P > 0.05) between the two test groups.Anterior or posterior rhinorrhea symptoms, including sneezing, nasal itching and nasal congestion, were statistically reduced over the course of the treatment, but reductions were not significantly different between the control and treatment groups. The treatment group, however, was shown to be significantly more satisfied with the treatment than the control group(P < 0.05).Conclusion: Both treatments appear to be able to significantly reduce the symptoms of allergic rhinitis.However, there was no difference in the effectiveness of steam bath with herbs and steam bath without herbs.Trial registration: This trial was registered in the Thai Clinical Trial Registry with the identifier TCTR20170712002.Parunkul Tungsukruthai Preecha Nootim Wiwan Worakunphanich Nareerat Tabtong 2018Journal of Integrative Medicine2018,16,1:2

6An environmental approach for used oil management in Asian cities: a Bangkok's experience显示文摘This paper addresses increasing concern about the pollution threat of used oil being illegally dumped and the impact of oil on air pollution and freshwater ecosystems in Asian countries. Used oil is a very serious waste management problem. These results call for management action such as maximising the collection and recovery of used oil. The Thai government recognizes the need to recycle used oil and has been active in encouraging programs to accomplish this goal. Thus unless new approaches and incentives are developed, used oil generation may become an increasing serious problem to our environment. The purpose of this study is to examine the technical and economic feasibility, of recycling used oils. 11Benzene and lead exposure assessment among occupational bus drivers in Bangkok traffic显示文摘Four environmental and biological monitoring sites were strategically established to evaluate benzene and lead exposure assessment at various traffic zones of Bangkok Metropolitan Region(BMR). Biological measurement of 48 non air-conditioned, male bus drivers was carried to study the relationship between individual exposure levels and exposure biomarkers. The study group was further sub-divided into four age groups(16—25, 26—35, 36—45 and 46—55 years old) to monitor the age—related exposure effects. A total of 12 unexposed persons were deliberately chosen as the control group. Measurement of unmetobolized benzene in blood and analysis of urinary tt-Muconic acid urine and urinary creatinine are recommended as biomarkers of benzene exposure. Measurement of lead in blood and urine is also recommended for the biological monitoring of lead exposure. During the monitoring period, benzene and lead levels at Yaowarat Road was C6H6: 42.46±3.88 μg/m 3, Pb: 0.29±0.03 μg/m 3 and decreased to C6H6: 33.5±1.35 μg/m 3, Pb: 0.13±0.01 μg/m 3 at Phahonyothin Road. Significant difference was established between the nonsmoking exposed group and nonsmoking control group for blood benzene concentrations ( P <0.001, two-tailed, Mann-Whiteney U test). Strong correlations were also found between trans-trans-Muconic acid concentrations in post shift samples and atmospheric benzene concentrations. Similarly, good correlation between all of biomarkers and lead level in air is established from automobile emissions.The analysis revealed that among the occupational population in the urban sites, the driver groups were found to have the highest risk of benzene and lead exposures derived from automobile emission.SHING TET LEONG PREECHA LAORTANAKUL 2004Journal of Environmental Sciences2004,16,1:1

19Let the light be a guide:Chromophore communication in metalorganic frameworks显示文摘The photonic characteristics of chromophore-containing metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)have led to extensive photophysical studies in an effort to capitalize on the potency of precisely controlled chromophore ensembles.Several examples have laid the foundation that demonstrates how photophysical properties of chromophores can be manipulated by tuning their communications(interactions)through integration within a MOF matrix.The main focus of this review is on harnessing the versatile MOF platform to accentuate the photophysical properties of integrated chromophores.In particular,this review will highlight chromophore dynamics that enhance,alter,or tune the photoluminescence response of single-and multi-chromophore-containing scaffolds,as well as alignment-guided anisotropic fluorescence.Building upon this groundwork,utilization of a hybrid crystalline motif can induce preferential orientation of chromophores resulting in enhanced communication and tailored behavior compared to randomly oriented emissive molecules.Moreover,frameworks that produce upconverted emission via sensitized triplet-triplet annihilation(sTTA),excited-state absorption(ESA),energy transfer upconversion(ETU),multi-photon absorption(MPA),or second-harmonic generation(SHG)can invoke dynamic control of material properties using photochromic linkers and will be discussed herein with a focus on the effects of chromophore alignment.Integration within a framework is a vehicle tofuse chromophores into solid-state platforms,opening an avenue for chromophore utilization in applications such as portable electronics that require solids or thin films.For those reasons,the design of chromophore-containing MOFs with desirable properties that rely on the alignment and communication of hundreds of chromophores within a single platform is a pressing demand for the development of futuristic technologies.Corey R.Martin Preecha Kittikhunnatham Gabrielle A.Leith Anna A.Berseneva Kyoung Chul Park Andrew B.Greytak Natalia B.Shustova 2021Nano Research2021,14,2:1
