| 1 | Effect of wastewater COD/N ratio on aerobic nitrifying sludge granulation and microbial population shift显示文摘The effect of COD/N ratio on the granulation process and microbial population succession was investigated.Four identical sequencing batch reactors,R1,R2,R3 and R4,were operated with various initial COD/N ratios ranging from 0/200 to 800/200(m/m).Ethanol was fed as the source of COD.Aerobic granules were successfully cultivated in R2 and R3,operating with the COD/N ratio of 200/200 and 400/200,respectively.Scanning electron microscope observations indicated that short rod-shaped and spherical bacteria were dominant in R2,while granules produced in R3 were surrounded with a large amount of filamentous bacteria.The average specific nitritation rate in R2 and R3 were 0.019 and 0.008 mg N/(mg MLVSS.hr),respectively.Fluorescence in situ hybridization results demonstrated that nitrifying bacteria population was enriched remarkably in R2.It indicated that nitrification ability and nitrifying bacteria population were enriched remarkably at low COD/N ratio.However,no granules were formed in R1 and R4 which might attribute to either limited or excessive extracellular polymeric substances production.This study contributed to a better understanding of the role of COD/N ratio in nitrifying sludge granulation. | Lei Wu Chengyao Peng Yongzhen Peng Lingyun Li Shuying Wang Yong Ma | 2012 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2012,24,2: | 29 |
| 2 | Nitrogen removal via nitrite from municipal landfill leachate显示文摘A system consisting of a two-stage up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB), an anoxic/aerobic (A/O) reactor and a sequencing batch reactor (SBR), was used to treat landfill leachate. During operation, denitrification and methanogenesis took place simultaneously in the first stage UASB, and the effluent chemical oxygen demand (COD) was further removed in the second stage UASB. Then the denitrification of nitrite and nitrate in the returned sludge by using the residual COD was accomplished in the A/O reactor, and ammonia was removed via nitrite in it. Last but not least, the residual ammonia was removed in SBR as well as nitrite and nitrate which were produced by nitrification. The results over 120 d (60 d for phase I and 60 d for phase II) were as follows: when the total nitrogen (TN) concentration of influent leachate was about 2500 mg/L and the ammonia nitrogen concentration was about 2000 mg/L, the shortcut nitrification with 85%-90% nitrite accumulation was achieved stably in the A/O reactor. The TN and ammonia nitrogen removal efficiencies of the system were 98% and 97%, respectively. The residual ammonia, nitrite and nitrate produced during nitrification in the A/O reactor could be washed out almost completely in SBR. | 11 | The evolving concept of physiological ischemia training vs. ischemia preconditioning显示文摘Ischemic heart diseases are the leading cause of death with increasing numbers of patients worldwide.Despite advances in revascularization techniques,angiogenic therapies remain highly attractive.Physiological ischemia training,which is first proposed in our laboratory,refers to reversible ischemia training of normal skeletal muscles by using a tourniquet or isometric contraction to cause physiologic ischemia for about 4 weeks for the sake of triggering molecular and cellular mechanisms to promote angiogenesis and formation of collateral vessels and protect remote ischemia areas.Physiological ischemia training therapy augments angiogenesis in the ischemic myocardium by inducing differential expression of proteins involved in energy metabolism,cell migration,protein folding,and generation.It upregulates the expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor,and induces angiogenesis,protects the myocardium when infarction occurs by increasing circulating endothelial progenitor cells and enhancing their migration,which is in accordance with physical training in heart disease rehabilitation.These findings may lead to a new approach of therapeutic angiogenesis for patients with ischemic heart diseases.On the basis of the promising results in animal studies,studies were also conducted in patients with coronary artery disease without any adverse effect in vivo,indicating that physiological ischemia training therapy is a safe,effective and non-invasive angiogenic approach for cardiovascular rehabilitation.Preconditioning is considered to be the most protective intervention against myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury to date.Physiological ischemia training is different from preconditioning.This review summarizes the preclinical and clinical data of physiological ischemia training and its difference from preconditioning. | Jun Ni Hongjian Lu Xiao Lu Minghui Jiang Qingyun Peng Caili Ren Jie Xiang Chengyao Mei Jianan Li | 2015 | The Journal of Biomedical Research2015,29,6: | 1 |

| 13 | A Self-Biomineralized Novel Adenovirus Vectored COVID-19 Vaccine for Boosting Immunization of Mice显示文摘SARS-CoV-2 has caused more than 3.8 million deaths worldwide,and several types of COVID-19 vaccines are urgently approved for use,including adenovirus vectored vaccines.However,the thermal instability and pre-existing immunity have limited its wide applications.To circumvent these obstacles,we constructed a self-biomineralized adenovirus vectored COVID-19 vaccine(Sad23L-n Co V-S-Ca P)by generating a calcium phosphate mineral exterior(Ca P)based on Sad23L vector carrying the full-length gene of SARS-Co V-2 spike protein(S)under physiological condition.This Sad23L-n Co V-S-Ca P vaccine was examined for its characteristics of structure,thermostability,immunogenicity and avoiding the problem of preexisting immunity.In thermostability test,Sad23L-n Co V-S-Ca P could be stored at 4°C for over 45 days,26°C for more than 8 days and 37°C for approximately 2 days.Furthermore,Sad23L-n Co V-S-Ca P induced higher level of S-specific antibody and T cell responses,and was not affected by the pre-existing anti-Sad23L immunity,suggesting it could be used as boosting immunization on Sad23L-n Co V-S priming vaccination.The boosting with Sad23L-n Co V-S-Ca P vaccine induced high titers of 10^(5.01)anti-S1,10^(4.77)anti-S2 binding antibody,10^(3.04) pseudovirus neutralizing antibody(IC_(50)),and robust T-cell response of IFN-c(1466.16 SFCs/10^(6)cells)to S peptides,respectively.In summary,the selfbiomineralization of the COVID-19 vaccine Sad23L-n Co V-S-Ca P improved vaccine efficacy,which could be used in prime-boost regimen for prevention of SARS-Co V-2 infection in humans. | Shengxue Luo Panli Zhang Peng Zou Cong Wang Bochao Liu Cuiling Wu Tingting Li Ling Zhang Yuming Zhang Chengyao Li | 2021 | Virologica Sinica2021,36,5: | 0 |
