1Solid State Reaction Yielding a Mineral Utilizing Silica Obtained from an Agricultural Waste显示文摘Wollastonite, a mineral of wide industrial applications was synthesised from rice husk ash silica and limestone. A number of raw batches consisting of these starting materials, in 1:1 molar ratio, were heat treated to produce it through solid state reaction from 900℃ to 1300℃. The conducted reaction was monitored by XRD step by step. Amount of Wollastonite formed at every temperature was also studied to some extent. Analyses of the obtained data indicated that the target mineral formation was quite effective and almost proportional to a rise in temperature up to 1200℃. 2Ageing Effect on Hardness and Microstructure of Al-Zn-Mg Alloys显示文摘Experimental results of the investigation on the hardness of two Al-Zn-Mg alloys [Al-10.0 Zn- 4.0 Mg and Al-8.5 Zn-3.0 Mg (wt pct)] aged in the temperature range 60-310℃ for different intervals of time from 1/4 h to 168 h are presented. Both the alloys were found to show identical behaviour of hardness with ageing time. Alloy with higher Zn and Mg content had higher hardness than the alloy with lower solute content. There were three ranges of temperature in which different types of precipitates formed and affected the hardness. 4Concentration and Temperature Dependence of Electrical Conductivity in Thermally Stable Chromium Polyacrylate显示文摘Electrical conductivity of chromium polyacrylate with dopant concentration 30, 40 and 50 wt-% of chromium has been measured over a broad range of temperatures (303 K to 383 K).The electrical conductivity shows dependence on temperature, as well as, level of doping. The conductivity is considered to be due to thermal hopping motion of localized charge carriers,which are believed to be polarons, in the temperature range 303 K to 323 K and for T>343 K,whereas. it is metal-like in the temperature range 323 K to 343S. 6Chemical Kinetic Aspects of Solid State Reaction Producing Wollastonite from Rice Husk Silica and Limestone显示文摘An industrial mineral wollastonite (CaSiO3) was produced under solid state conditions from rice husk silica and limestone. Reaction was carried out at 900’C to 1300’C for 1 h. The product batches were subjected to XRD and chemical analysis techniques specific for wollastonite. Mole fractions of different product batches were calculated on the basis of accumulated data to study the kinetics. Specific rate constants and reaction rate were also found out. Various probable models of mechanism for reaction were considered and testified with the laid down criterion for suggesting the suitable one. The resulting data were treated with Arrhenius equation as well and activation energy was calculated--therefrom. In addition to finding it’s value from the slope of Arrhenius curve, an alternate method was also applied for this purpose. Both of the values were observed to be comparable. The activation energy required for performed reaction was found to be almost one third of that reported for synthesizing CaSiO3 by using quartz. 10Afghanistan Reconstruction显示文摘The post-war reconstruction in Afghanistan is going on smoothly within the framework of the Bonn Agreement, and the country has come back to normal as far as the appearance goes. However, with foreign involvement, economic recovery has lagged behind the political reconstruction. 11Prediction of underwater target strength显示文摘A model as well as its numerical method to calculate target strength of rigid body using Lighthill’s acoustic analogy approach which developed from the propeller aircraft sound field study have been presented. The cases of ellipsoid target has been used to demonstrate the approach. The comparison of the numerical results with that of analytical formulation provides a satisfactory check for the validity of the approach. Some reasonable results have been discussed. 12MEASUREMENTS OF INTRAOCULAR PRESSURE THROUGH0UT THE PREGNANCY IN PAKISTANI WOMEN显示文摘Background. Decrease in intraocular pressure (IOP) during pregnancy has been reported by previous studies,but amount of decrease varies from study to study. Moreover,previous studies have concentrated on the last trimester of pregnancy or one reading per trimester. IOP changes throughout the pregnancy have never been described. Therefore,the present study was planned to determine IOP throughout the pregnan cy,after placing control on IOP affecting factors.Subjects and methods. Thirty-six pregnant and same numbers of non-pregnanat women of the same age group were studied. IOP measurements were taken at four week intervals throughout the pregnancy,with the Goldmann applanation tonometer.Results. As compared to control subjects,up to 8th week,IOP remained the same. At 12th week,it becomes significantly lower. The IOP differences between fIrst and second (P<0. 05),and second and third (P<0. 001 ) trimesters of pregnancy were significant. In every subject, IOP decreased during pregnancy.However,there were variations among individuals in the extent of IOP decrease Conclusbos. With advancing pregnancy, intraocular pressure decreases. 15Interatomic Potentials for Some Binary Oxides显示文摘Using atomistic computer simulation methods we have derived a new set of interatomic potential parameters for some binary oxides, comprising divalent transition elements (rock-salt structured) and tetravalent metals. Computational techniques based on the minimization of the crystal energy with respect to atomic coordinates have been employed. Crystal properties were calculated and compared with the experimental data to check the reliability of our potential models. Intrinsic (Schottky and Frenkel) defect energies were also calculated and compared with previous studies. 16Detectability and reliability analysis of the local seismic network in Pakistan显示文摘The detectability and reliability analysis for the local seismic network is performed employing by Bungum and Husebye technique. The events were relocated using standard computer codes for hypocentral locations. The de-tectability levels are estimated from the twenty-five years of recorded data in terms of 50%, 90% and 100% cumu-lative detectability thresholds, which were derived from frequency-magnitude distribution. From this analysis the 100% level of detectability of the network is ML=1.7 for events which occur within the network. The accuracy in hypocentral solutions of the network is investigated by considering the fixed real hypocenter within the network. The epicentral errors are found to be less than 4 km when the events occur within the network. Finally, the prob-lems faced during continuous operation of the local network, which effects its detectability, are discussed.M. Qaisar T. Mahmood S. A.
