| 1 | Computed tomography overestimation of esophageal tumor length: Implications for radiotherapy planning显示文摘AIM:To assess the relationship between preoperative computed tomography(CT)and postoperative pathological measurements of esophageal tumor length and the prognostic significance of CT tumor length data.METHODS:A retrospective study was carried out in 56 patients who underwent curative esophagogastrectomy.Tumor lengths were measured on the immediate preoperative CT and on the post-operative resection specimens.Inter-and intra-observer variations in CT measurements were assessed.Survival data were collected.RESULTS:There was a weak correlation between CT and pathological tumor length(r=0.30,P=0.025).CT lengths were longer than pathological lengths in 68%(38/56)of patients with a mean difference of 1.67 cm(95%CI:1.18-2.97).The mean difference in measurements by two radiologists was 0.39 cm(95% CI:-0.59-1.44).The mean difference between repeat CT measured tumor length(intra-observer variation) were 0.04 cm(95%CI:-0.59-0.66)and 0.47 cm (95%CI:-0.53-1.47).When stratified,patients not receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy showed a strong correlation between CT and pathological tumor length(r =0.69,P=0.0014,n=37)than patients that did(r= 0.13,P=0.43,n=19).Median survival with CT tumor length>5.6 cm was poorer than with smaller tumors,but the difference was not statistically significant.CONCLUSION:Esophageal tumor length assessed using CT does not reflect pathological tumor extent and should not be the only modality used for management decisions,particularly for planning radiotherapy. | Karim Sillah Luke R Williams Hans-Ulrich Laasch Azeem Saleem Gillian Watkins Susan A Pritchard Patricia M Price Catharine M West Ian M Welch | 2010 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2010，2，4： | 10 |
| 2 | How to use magnetic resonance imaging following neoadjuvant chemotherapy in locally advanced breast cancer显示文摘Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) is highly sensitive in identifying residual breast cancer following neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NAC), and consequently is a commonly used imaging modality in locally advanced breast cancer patients. In these patients, tumor response is an important prognostic indicator. However, discrepancies between MRI findings and surgical pathology are well documented. Overestimation of residual disease by MRI may result in greater surgery than is actually required while underestimation may result in insufficient surgery. Thus, it is important to understand when MRI findings are reliable and when they are less accurate. MRI most accurately predicts pathology in triple negative, Her2 positive and hormone receptor negative tumors, especially if they are of a solid imaging phenotype. In these cases, post-NAC MRI is highly reliable for surgical planning. Hormone receptor positive cancers and those demonstrating non mass enhancement show lower concordance with surgical pathology, making surgical guidance more nebulous in these cases. Radiologists and surgeons must assess MRI response to NAC in the context of tumor subtype. | 3 | The dependences of osteocyte network on bone compartment, age, and disease显示文摘Osteocytes, the most abundant bone cells, form an interconnected network in the lacunar-canalicular pore system(LCS) buried within the mineralized matrix, which allows osteocytes to obtain nutrients from the blood supply, sense external mechanical signals, and communicate among themselves and with other cells on bone surfaces. In this study, we examined key features of the LCS network including the topological parameter and the detailed structure of individual connections and their variations in cortical and cancellous compartments, at different ages, and in two disease conditions with altered mechanosensing(perlecan deficiency and diabetes).LCS network showed both topological stability, in terms of conservation of connectivity among osteocyte lacunae(similar to the ‘‘nodes' ' in a computer network), and considerable variability the pericellular annular fluid gap surrounding lacunae and canaliculi(similar to the ‘‘bandwidth'' of individual links in a computer network). Age, in the range of our study(15–32 weeks), affected only the pericellular fluid annulus in cortical bone but not in cancellous bone. Diabetes impacted the spacing of the lacunae, while the perlecan deficiency had a profound influence on the pericellular fluid annulus. | 5 | Stability of fruit quality traits in diverse watermelon cultivars tested in multiple environments显示文摘Lycopene is a naturally occurring red carotenoid compound that is found in watermelon.Lycopene has antioxidant properties.Lycopene content,sugar content and hollowheart resistance are subject to significant genotype×environment interaction(G×E),which makes breeding for these fruit quality traits difficult.The objectives of this study were to(i)evaluate the influence of years and locations on lycopene content,sugar content and hollowheart resistance for a set of watermelon genotypes,and(ii)identify genotypes with high stability for lycopene,sugar,and hollowheart resistance.A diverse set of 40 genotypes was tested over 3 years and 8 locations across the southern United States in replicated,multi-harvest trials.Lycopene was tested in a subset of 10 genotypes.Data were analyzed using univariate and multivariate stability statistics(BLUP-GGE biplot)using SASGxE and RGxE programs.There were strong effects of environment as well as G×E interaction on watermelon quality traits.On the basis of stability measures,genotypes were classified as stable or unstable for each quality trait.'Crimson Sweet'is an inbred line with high quality trait performance as well as trait stability.'Stone Mountain','Tom Watson','Crimson Sweet'and'Minilee'were among the best genotypes for lycopene content,sugar content and hollowheart resistance.We developed a stability chart based on marketable yield and average ranking generated from different stability measures for yield attributes and quality traits.The chart will assist in choosing parents for improvement of watermelon cultivars.See http://gffzz783b6e01a04243c3h9n9c9vpqfxxw6fqf.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/cucurbit/wmelon/wmelonmain.html. | Mahendra Dia Todd C Wehner Penelope Perkins-Veazie Richard Hassell Daniel S Price George E Boyhan Stephen M Olson Stephen R King Angela R Davis Gregory E Tolla Jerome Bernier Benito Juarez | 2016 | Horticulture Research2016，3，1： | 2 |
