| 1 | The role and significance of Magnesium in modern day research-A review显示文摘Magnesium is one of the largely available elements in the earth’s crust. It has a low structural density with high specific strength. This unique material property has forced an increase in the use of magnesium and its alloys in various applications pertaining to industrial sector,automobiles, aerospace and biomedical. Since magnesium is a highly reactive metal, it is prone to higher rate of corrosion as compared to its counterparts. Thus, it is essential to analyze the corrosion behavior of magnesium and its alloys in its applications. An appropriate process is to be followed in the design and development of magnesium alloys which overcome the limitations of magnesium and enhance the desired material properties in accordance to their applications. This review paper summarizes the importance of magnesium and its material properties. The influence of various alloying elements on the mechanical properties of magnesium is reviewed. The broad classification of Mg alloys and their behavioral trends are detailed. The corrosion behavior of magnesium and the influence of corrosion products on the material characteristics of magnesium, in aqueous medium, are discussed. The manufacturing techniques of magnesium alloys along with the secondary techniques are also covered. The various applications and the limitations of magnesium in these applications are covered. A complete section is dedicated towards detailing the recent trends of magnesium(Mg) alloys, i.e., the biodegradable nature and applications of Mg alloys. The influence of biocorrosion on Mg alloys and techniques to overcome it have been deliberated. | 2 | Miniature gastrointestinal endoscopy: Now and the future显示文摘Since its original application,gastrointestinal(GI)endoscopy has undergone many innovative transformations aimed at expanding the scope,safety,accuracy,acceptability and cost-effectiveness of this area of clinical practice.One method of achieving this has been to reduce the caliber of endoscopic devices.We propose the collective term“Miniature GI Endoscopy”.In this Opinion Review,the innovations in this field are explored and discussed.The progress and clinical use of the three main areas of miniature GI endoscopy(ultrathin endoscopy,wireless endoscopy and scanning fiber endoscopy)are described.The opportunities presented by these technologies are set out in a clinical context,as are their current limitations.Many of the positive aspects of miniature endoscopy are clear,in that smaller devices provide access to potentially all of the alimentary canal,while conferring high patient acceptability.This must be balanced with the costs of new technologies and recognition of device specific challenges.Perspectives on future application are also considered and the efforts being made to bring new innovations to a clinical platform are outlined.Current devices demonstrate that miniature GI endoscopy has a valuable place in investigation of symptoms,therapeutic intervention and screening.Newer technologies give promise that the potential for enhancing the investigation and management of GI complaints is significant. | John J McGoran Mark E McAlindon Prasad G Iyer Eric J Seibel Rehan Haidry Laurence B Lovat Sarmed S Sami | 2019 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2019,25,30: | 4 |
| 3 | Kidney exchange transplantation current status, an update and future perspectives显示文摘Kidney exchange transplantation is well established modality to increase living donor kidney transplantation. Reasons for joining kidney exchange programs are ABO blood group incompatibility, immunological inco-mpatibility(positive cross match or donor specific antibody), human leukocyte antigen(HLA) incompa-tibility(poor HLA matching), chronological incompa-tibility and financial incompatibility. Kidney exchange transplantation has evolved from the traditional si-multaneous anonymous 2-way kidney exchange to more complex ways such as 3-way exchange, 4-way exchange, n -way exchange,compatible pair, non-simult-aneous kidney exchange,non-simultaneous extended altruistic donor, never ending altruistic donor, kidney exchange combined with desensitization, kidney ex-change combined with ABO incompatible kidney tr-ansplantation, acceptable mismatch transplant, use of A2 donor to O patients, living donor-deceased donor list exchange, domino chain, non-anonymous kidney exchange, single center, multicenter, regional, National, International and Global kidney exchange. Here we discuss recent advances in kidney exchanges such as International kidney exchange transplantation in a gl-obal environment, three categories of advanced dona-tion program, deceased donors as a source of chain initiating kidneys, donor renege myth or reality, pros and cons of anonymity in developed world and(non-) anonymity in developing world, pros and cons of donor travel vs kidney transport, algorithm for management of incompatible donor-recipient pairs and pros and cons of Global kidney exchange. The participating transplant teams and donor-recipient pairs should make the decision by consensus about kidney donor travel vskidney transport and anonymity vs non-anonymity in allocation as per local resources and logistics.
