1The HEPD particle detector of the CSES satellite mission for investigating seismo-associated perturbations of the Van Allen belts显示文摘CSES(China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite) is a mission developed by CNSA(Chinese National Space Administration) and ASI(Italian Space Agency), to investigate the near-Earth electromagnetic, plasma and particle environment, for studying the seismo-associated disturbances in the ionosphere-magnetosphere transition zone. The anthropogenic and electromagnetic noise,as well as the natural non-seismic electromagnetic emissions is mainly due to tropospheric activity. In particular, the mission aims to confirming the existence of possible temporal correlations between the occurrence of earthquakes for medium and strong magnitude and the observation in space of electromagnetic perturbations, plasma variations and precipitation of bursts with highenergy charged particles from the inner Van Allen belt. In this framework, the high energy particle detector(HEPD) of the CSES mission has been developed by the Italian LIMADOU Collaboration. HEPD is an advanced detector based on a tower of scintillators and a silicon tracker that provides good energy and angular resolution and a wide angular acceptance, for electrons of 3–100 Me V, protons of 30–200 Me V and light nuclei up to the oxygen. 2Changing trends in corneal graft surgery: a ten-year review显示文摘AIM:To review indications and corneal tissue use for penetrating and lamellar surgery between 2002 and 2011.·METHODS:The surgical reports of corneal grafts performed during 2002-2011,using tissues supplied by the Eye Bank of Piedmont(Italy),were reviewed retrospectively.Patient demographic data,date of intervention,indication for surgery,and surgical technique used were recorded.Surgical techniques included penetrating keratoplasty(PK),deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty(DALK)and endothelial keratoplasty(EK).Theχ2test was used to compare the distribution of indications and types of surgical technique used,for corneal grafts done during 2002-2006 versus those done during 2007-2011.·RESULTS:The number of corneal grafts increased by30.7%from 2002-2006 to 2007-2011(from 1567 to 2048).Comparing the two periods,both main indications and surgical techniques changed significantly.In 2007-2011,the proportion of interventions for aphakic/pseudophakic bollous keratopathy(from 16.8%to 21.3%),graft failure(from 16.4%to 19.1%)and Fuchs endothelial dystrophy(from 12.8%to 16.7%)all increased significantly(P<0.05),while those for keratoconus decreased significantly(from35.6%to 27.3%;P<0.001).In 2007-2011,the proportion of PK decreased significantly(from 92.4%to 57.2%;P<0.001)while that of EK and DALK went from 0.4%to30.2%(P<0.001)and from 7.2%to 12.6%(P<0.001)respectively.·CONCLUSION:During 2002-2011 the number of interventions increased significantly for corneal endothelial diseases and graft failure.The growing demand for interventions for these diseases corresponded to the widespread adoption of EK techniques.The use of DALK also increased,but more moderately than EK procedures.Ugo de Sanctis camilla alovisi Luigi Bauchiero Guido Caramello Gianfranco Girotto Claudio Panico Luisa Vinai Federico Genzano Antonio Amoroso federico grignolo 2016International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2016,9,1:3
3Energy metabolism and the skeleton:Reciprocal interplay显示文摘The relation between bone remodelling and energy expenditure is an intriguing,and yet unexplained,challenge of the past ten years. In fact,it was only in the last few years that the skeleton was found to function,not only in its obvious roles of body support and protection,but also as an important part of the endocrine system. In particular,bone produces different hormones,like osteocalcin(OC),which influences energy expenditure in humans. The undercarboxylated form of OC has a reduced affinity for hydroxyapatite; hence it enters the systemic circulation more easily and exerts its metabolic functions for the proliferation of pancreatic β-cells,insulin secretion,sensitivity,and glucose tolerance. Leptin,a hormone synthesized by adipocytes,also has an effect on both bone remodelling and energy expenditure; in fact it inhibits appetite through hypothalamic influence and,in bone,stimulates osteoblastic differentiation and inhibits apoptosis. Leptin and serotonin exert opposite influences on bone mass accrual,but several features suggest that they might operate in the same pathway through a sympathetic tone. Serotonin,in fact,acts via two opposite pathways in controlling bone remodelling: central and peripheral. Serotonin product by the gastrointestinal tract(95%) augments bone formation by osteoblast,whereas brain-derived serotonin influences low bone mineral density and its decrease leads to an increase in boneresorption parameters. Finally,amylin(AMY) acts as a hormone that alters physiological responses related to feeding,and plays a role as a growth factor in bone. In vitro AMY stimulates the proliferation of osteoblasts,and osteoclast differentiation.
