1Glycyrrhiza uralensis flavonoids inhibit brain microglial cell TNF-α secretion,p-IκB expression,and increase brain-derived neurotropic factor(BDNF)secretion显示文摘Objective:Asthma sufferers exhibit high prevalence of anxiety/depression.Elevated tumor-necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α)levels in peripheral system and central nervous system(CNS)are associated with anxiety/depression,whereas brain-derived neurotropic factor(BDNF)has anti-depressant effects.An anti-asthma herbal medicine intervention ASHMI inhibits peripheral TNF-αsecretion in an animal model of asthma.We hypothesize that ASHMI and its compounds may have modulatory effects on CNS TNF-αand BDNF production.We sought to determine the effect of ASHMI and individual herb constituents on brain microglial cell TNF-αproduction,and identify the active compounds that suppress TNF-αand increase BDNF.Methods:BV-2 mouse microglial cells were pre-treated with ASHMI or extracts of Ganoderma lucidum(G.lucidum),Sophora flavescens Ait(S.flavescens),and Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fischer(G.uralensis),the herbal constituents in ASHMI,or individual compounds isolated from G.uralensis at different concentrations and then stimulated with LPS.TNF-αlevels in culture supernatants were measured by ELISA.The effect of active compounds on NFkB signaling pathway and on BDNF production were determined by western blotting and ELISA,respectively.Results:ASHMI produced dose-dependent inhibition of TNF-αsecretion by cultured-mousemicroglia BV2 cells.Of the three herb extracts in ASHMI,only G.uralensis significantly and dosedependently inhibited TNF-αproduction.Among the 5 flavonoids isolated from G.uralensis,isoliquiritigeninwas themost effective.Isoliquiritigenin suppression of TNF-αproduction was associated with attenuation of p-NF-kB expression,andwas accompanied by increased BDNF secretion.Conclusion:ASHMI and its effective flavonoid,isoliquiritigenin,inhibited TNF-αproduction by LPS stimulatedmicroglial cells and elevated BDNF levels,which may prove to have anti-CNS inflammatory and anti-anxiety effects.Sangita P.Patil Changda Liu Joseph Alban Nan Yang Xiu-Min Li 2014Journal of Traditional Chinese Medical Sciences2014,1,1:3

3Designing a watershed scorecard as a performance evaluation tool for Ur River watershed,Tikamgarh District,Madhya Pradesh显示文摘The study is an attempt to design a watershed scorecard by identifying and evaluating selected set of indicators,such as surface water quality,ground water quality,soil condition,agriculture condition,and forest condition,which accurately reflect the health of the watershed.Ur River Watershed in Tikamgarh District,Madhya Pradesh was taken as a case study to assess the watershed health.Evaluation was done by calculating different indices for the selected set of indicators and comparing them with the National standards and guidelines.Based on the performance of each indicator,the grades were assigned to the indicators which helped in designing the watershed scorecard.The results revealed that within the watershed,the forest and soil conditions need a considerable plan for improvement in order to maintain the ecosystem whereas the surface water quality,groundwater quality and the agricultural conditions requires protection as well as enhancement in certain areas.Meeta Gupta V.C.Goyal Fawzia Tarannum Jyoti P.Patil 2017International Soil and Water Conservation Research2017,5,4:1

5Carbon dioxide:a renewable feedstock for the synthesis of fine and bulk chemicals显示文摘The syntheses of carbon dioxide(CO_(2))based industrially important chemicals have gained considerable interest in view of the sustainable chemistry and“green chemistry”concepts.In this review,recent developments in the chemical fixation of CO_(2)to valuable chemicals are discussed.The synthesis of five-member cyclic carbonates via,cycloaddition of CO_(2)to epoxides is one of the promising reactions replacing the existing poisonous phosgene-based synthetic route.This review focuses on the synthesis of cyclic carbonates,vinyl carbamates,and quinazoline-2,4(1H,3H)-diones via reaction of CO_(2)and epoxide,amines/phenyl acetylene,2-aminobenzinitrile and other chemicals.Direct synthesis of dimethyl carbonate,1,3-disubstituted urea and 2-oxazolidinones/2-imidazolidinones have limitations at present because of the reaction equilibrium and chemical inertness of CO_(2).The preferred alternatives for their synthesis like transesterification of ethylene carbonate with methanol,transamination of ethylene carbonate with primary amine and transamination reaction of ethylene carbonate with diamines/β-aminoalcohols are discussed.These methodologies offer marked improvements for greener chemical fixation of CO_(2)in to industrially important chemicals.Yogesh P.PATIL Pawan J.TAMBADE Sachin R.JAGTAP Bhalchandra M.BHANAGE 2010Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering2010,4,2:0
6Synthesis of powdered silver nanoparticles using hydrogen in aqueous medium显示文摘Environmentally benign one-pot protocol is used in the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in powder form, involving the reduction of silver nitrate in the presence of fully hydrolyzed polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as stabilizer by hydrogen (H 2 ) as reducing agent in aqueous medium. Fully hydrolyzed biodegradable PVA has extremely low cytotoxicity, making it a favorable stabilizer from green perspective. In the present methodology, essentially naked silver nanoparticles are obtained in good yield. The prepared sil- ver nanoparticles were characterized by TEM, XRD, EDAX, UV-Vis spectroscopy and DLS histogram, and studied for its activity as a recyclable catalyst for synthesis of different enaminones.Kushal D.
