1Calculation and Simulation of Evapotranspiration of Applied Water显示文摘The University of California,Davis and the California Department of Water Resources have developed a weather generator application program 'SIMETAW' to simulate weather data from climatic records and to estimate reference evapotranspiration (ET o) and crop evapotranspiration (ET c) with the generated simulation data or with observed data.A database of default soil depth and water holding characteristics,effective crop rooting depths,and crop coefficient (K c) values to convert ET o to ET c are input into the program.After calculating daily ET c,the input and derived data are used to determine effective rainfall and to generate hypothetical irrigation schedules to estimate the seasonal and annual evapotranspiration of applied water (ET aw),where ET aw is the net amount of irrigation water needed to produce a crop.In this paper,we will discuss the simulation model and how it determines ET aw for use in water resources planning.Richard L Snyder Shu Geng Morteza Orang Sara Sarreshteh 2012Journal of Integrative Agriculture2012,11,3:7
2Yang-tonifying traditional Chinese medicinal plants and their potential phytoandrogenic activity显示文摘The concept of phytoandrogens, plants that contain androgens or those that stimulate androgenic activity in men, is relatively new. In traditional Chinese medicine a number of phytoandrogens are classified in medicinal plant restoratives for reinforcing yang, and they find their application in the treatment of the kidney yang deficiency diseases. In this review, the phytoandrogens used in traditional Chinese medicine are listed, and their proven applications in the treatment of kidney yang deficiency diseases, such as sexual disorders, cancer, and obesity and associated metabolic syndromes are presented. 3Serum immunoglobulin A concentration is a reliable biomarker for liver fibrosis in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of serum Immunoglobulin A(IgA)for differentiating early stage nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)from nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH).METHODS:All cases had fatty liver change confirmed by ultrasound and aminotransferases of at least twice the normal level.Clinical and biochemical data,including serum IgA,were obtained from 50 histologically proven NAFLD cases and 54 healthy controls.Fasting whole blood samples were obtained from the study population.Immunoturbidimetric methods were used to measure the IgA levels.All NAFLD cases were hospitalized for liver biopsy.Liver specimens were examined for steatosis,steatohepatitis and fibrosis within hepatocytes.Patients were categorized into two groups:NASH and non-NASH.Variables were compared within cases(NASH vs non-NASH)and controls.Cut-off values of serum IgA were evaluated using analysis of receiver operating characteristic(ROC curves).Associations between the variables were tested using calculations of correlation coefficients.Statistical significances were assigned to P values<0.05.RESULTS:The extent of liver fibrosis correlated positively with IgA levels.Subjects with no fibrosis in their liver biopsies had a lower IgA level(301.5±91.2 mg/dL)than subjects with any degree of fibrosis(388.8±140.8 mg/dL),(P=0.01).IgA levels were higher in NASH cases,and its value was significantly higher for higher degrees of fibrosis.Patients with perisinusoidal or pericellular fibrosis had significantly higher levels of IgA(403.5±133.9 mg/dL,418.2±129.5 mg/dL)compared to those without it(301.8±94.9 mg/dL,297.7±91.5 mg/dL),respectively.No significant correlation was found between steatosis grade and serum IgA levels.Based on ROC analysis,the best predictive IgA cutoff value for detecting liver fibrosis was 360mg/dL(61%sensitivity,81%specificity).CONCLUSION:The serum IgA level is useful to evaluate the severity of liver fibrosis and can be used serially for evaluation and follow-up of NAFLD cases.Iradj Maleki Mahmood Reza Aminafshari Tarang Taghvaei Vahid Hosseini Alireza Rafiei Zhila Torabizadeh Maryam Barzin Elahe Orang 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,35:4
4California Simulation of Evapotranspiration of Applied Water and Agricultural Energy Use in California显示文摘The California Simulation of Evapotranspiration of Applied Water (Cal-SIMETAW) model is a new tool developed by the California Department of Water Resources and the University of California, Davis to perform daily soil water balance and determine crop evapotranspiration (ET c ), evapotranspiration of applied water (ET aw ), and applied water (AW) for use in California water resources planning. ET aw is a seasonal estimate of the water needed to irrigate a crop assuming 100% irrigation efficiency. The model accounts for soils, crop coefficients, rooting depths, seepage, etc. that influence crop water balance. It provides spatial soil and climate information and it uses historical crop and land-use category information to provide seasonal water balance estimates by combinations of detailed analysis unit and county (DAU/County) over California. The result is a large data base of ET c and ET aw that will be used to update information in the new California Water Plan (CWP). The application uses the daily climate data, i.e., maximum (T x ) and minimum (T n ) temperature and precipitation (P cp ), which were derived from monthly USDA-NRCS PRISM data (PRISM Group 2011) and daily US National Climate Data Center (NCDC) climate station data to cover California on a 4 km×4 km change grid spacing. The application uses daily weather data to determine reference evapotranspiration (ET o ), using the Hargreaves-Samani (HS) equation (Hargreaves and Samani 1982, 1985). Because the HS equation is based on temperature only, ET o from the HS equation were compared with CIMIS ET o at the same locations using available CIMIS data to determine correction factors to estimate CIMIS ET o from the HS ET o to account for spatial climate differences. Cal-SIMETAW also employs near real-time reference evapotranspiration (ET o ) information from Spatial CIMIS, which is a model that combines weather station data and remote sensing to provide a grid of ET o information. A second database containing the available soil water holding capacity and soil depth information for all of California was also developed from the USDA-NRCS SSURGO database. The Cal-SIMETAW program also has the ability to generate daily weather data from monthly mean values for use in studying climate change scenarios and their possible impacts on water demand in the state. The key objective of this project is to improve the accuracy of water use estimates for the California Water Plan (CWP), which provides a comprehensive report on water supply, demand, and management in California. 5MicroRNAs in cardiovascular diseases:From bench to bedside显示文摘MicroRNAs(miRNAs) are a novel class of endogenous,small,noncoding RNAs that regulate gene expression via degradation or translational inhibition of their target mRNAs.Functionally,an individual miRNA is important as a transcription factor because it is able to regulate the expression of its multiple target genes.As a group,miRNAs are able to directly regulate at least 30%of genes in a cell.In addition,other genes may also be regulated indirectly by miRNAs.It is therefore not surprising that miRNAs could be the pivotal regulators in normal development,physiology,and pathology. Recent studies have demonstrated that miRNAs are highly expressed in cardiovasculature and their expression is dysregulated in diseased hearts and vessels. miRNAs are found to be critical modulators for cardiovascular cell functions such as cell differentiation, contraction,migration,proliferation,and apoptosis.Accordingly,miRNAs are involved in the many cardiovascular diseases such as cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure,ischemic heart disease, cardiac arrhythmias,angiogenesis,atherosclerosis and restenosis after angioplasty.Both basic and clinical studies have revealed miRNAs are a novel class of biomarkers and therapeutic targets for cardiovascular diseases.In this talk,we will report a translational study about the roles of circulating miRNAs in the diagnosis of myocardial infraction.We identified that miR-1 could be a novel sensitive diagnostic biomarker for myocardial infraction.In addition, the research progress of miRNAs in cardiovascular diseases from bench to bedside and the research perspective summarized by NIH microRNA working group will be reported.Chunxiang Zhang (Cardiovascular Research Laboratory,Department of Anesthesiology,New Jersey Medical School,University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, 185 South Orange Avenue,MSB-E548,Newark,NJ 07101) 2011岭南心血管病杂志2011,17,S1:2
