3Helicobacter pylori and EBV in gastric carcinomas:Methylation status and microsatellite instability显示文摘AIM:To verify the methylation status of CDH1, DAPK, COX2, hMLH1 and CDKN2A genes and to evaluate their association with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)-cagA+ and Epstein Barr virus (EBV) infections in gastric adenocarcinomas.METHODS: Methylation-specific PCR (MSP) assay was performed in 89 primary gastric carcinomas (intestinal and diffuse types). Microsatellite instability (MSI) analysis was performed using the BAT26 primer set and PCR products were analyzed with the ABI PRISM 3100 Genetic Analyzer using Genescan 3.7 software (Applied Biosystems). Detection of H. pylori and genotyping were performed by PCR, using specifi c primers for ureaseC and cagA genes. The presence of EBV was assessed by in situ hybridization. Statistical analyses were performed using the χ2 or Fisher's exact test.RESULTS: The most frequent hypermethylated gene was COX-2 (63.5%) followed by DAPK (55.7%), CDH1 (51%), CDKN2A (36%) and hMLH1 (30.3%). Intestinal and diffuse adenocarcinomas showed different methylation profiles and there was an association between methylation of E-CDH1 and H. pylori-cagA+ in the intestinal adenocarcinoma type. MSI was correlated with hMLH1 methylation. 4Improvement in corrosion resistance of magnesium coating with cerium treatment显示文摘Corrosion protection afforded by a magnesium coating treated in cerium salt solution on steel substrate was investigated using open circuit potential, polarization curves, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in 0.005 M sodium chloride solution (NaCl). The morphology of the surface was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The cerium treated coating was obtained by immersion in CeCl3 solution. The results showed that the corrosion resistance of the treated magnesium coating was improved. The corrosion potential of the treated coating was found to be nobler than that of the untreated magnesium coating and the corrosion current decreased significantly. Impedance results showed that the cerium treatment increased corrosion protection. 5Understanding plant drought resistance in a Mediterranean coastal sand dune ecosystem:differences between native and exotic invasive species显示文摘Aims Mediterranean coastal dunes are habitats of great conservation interest,with a distinctive and rich flora.In the last century,Acacia spp.,native from Australia,have been introduced in Portugal,with the objective of stabilizing sand dunes,and since have become dominant in numerous sand dune habitats.This invasion process led to the reduction of native plant species richness,changed soil characteristics and modified habitat’s microclimatic char-acteristics.The aim of this research was to typify and compare,in Mediterranean sand dune ecosystems,the ecophysiological responses to drought of Helichrysum italicum and Corema album,two native species,and Acacia longifolia,an exotic invasive spe-cies.We addressed the following specific objectives:(i)to com-pare water relations and water use efficiencies,(ii)to evaluate water stress,(iii)to assess water use strategies and water sources used by plants and(iv)to evaluate the morphological adaptations at leaf and phyllode level.Methods In order to obtain an integrative view of ecophysiological patterns,water relations and performance measuring methods have been applied:predawn(ψPD)and midday(ψMD)water potential,chloro-phyll a fluorescence,oxygen isotopic composition of xylem,rain and groundwater(δ18O)and leaf carbon isotopic discrimination(Δ13C).The leaf characteristics of the three species,as well as the histochemistry of non-glandular trichome cell walls,were also studied to identify morpho-traits related to drought resistance.Important Findings The results support our initial hypothesis:although A.longifolia clearly possesses a degree of resistance to water stress,such ability is provided by a different water strategy,when compared to native species.Natives relied on morphological adaptations to restrict water loss,whereas the invasive species adjusted the water uptake as a way to balance their limited ability of restricting water loss.We corroborate that woody native species(i)have a conservative water-saving strategy and minor seasonal variations relative to invasive species,(ii)use enriched water sources during drought periods,indicating different water sources and root systems com-paring with invasive species and(iii)present drought leaf morpho-functional adaptations related with limiting water loss.Comparing the physiological performance of invasive and native species can offer causal explanations for the relative success of alien plant invasions on sand dunes ecosystems.Cristina Antunes Ana Júlia Pereira Patrícia Fernandes Margarida Ramos Lia Ascensão Otília Correia Cristina Máguas 2018Journal of Plant Ecology2018,11,1:4

7Liver retransplantation: indications and outcomes显示文摘BACKGROUND: Liver transplantation is a life-saving the- rapeutic modality for patients with end-stage liver diseases. After liver transplantation, however, more than 10% pa- tients may lose the grafts caused by a variety of reasons. This review covers the most frequent indications for liver retransplantation as well as the results and specific problems with each indication. DATA RESOURCES: Searching MEDLINE (1997-2003) for articles on liver retransplantation. RESULTS: The most frequent indications of liver retrans- plantation are primary non-function, hepatic artery throm- bosis, graft rejection and recurrent diseases. The results af- ter liver retransplantation remain inferior to those after first transplantation. 13Role of dynamic computed tomography scans in patients with congenital craniovertebral junction malformations显示文摘AIM To evaluate the role of dynamic computed tomography(CT)scan imaging in diagnosing craniovertebral junction(CVJ)instability in patients with congenital CVJ malformations.METHODS Patients with symptomatic congenital CVJ malformations who underwent posterior fossa decompression and had a preoperative dynamic CT scan in flexion and extended position were included in this study.Measurements of the following craniometrical parameters were taken in flexed and extended neck position:Atlanto-dental interval(ADI),distance of the odontoid tip to the Chamberlain’s line,and the clivus-canal angle(CCA).Assessment of the facet joints congruence was also performed in both positions.Comparison of the values obtained in flexion and extension were compared using a paired Student’s t-test.RESULTS A total of ten patients with a mean age of 37.9 years were included.In flexion imaging,the mean ADI was1.76 mm,the mean CCA was 125.4°and the mean distance of the odontoid tip to the Chamberlain’s line was+9.62 mm.In extension,the mean ADI was1.46 mm(P=0.29),the mean CCA was 142.2°(P<0.01)and the mean distance of the odontoid tip to the Chamberlain’s line was+7.11 mm(P<0.05).Four patients(40%)had facetary subluxation demonstrated in dynamic imaging,two of them with mobile subluxation(both underwent CVJ fixation).The other two patients with a fixed subluxation were not initially fixed.One patient with atlantoaxial assimilation and C23 fusion without initial facet subluxation developed a latter CVJ instability diagnosed with a dynamic CT scan.Patients with basilar invagination had a lower CCA variation compared to the whole group.CONCLUSION Craniometrical parameters,as well as the visualization of the facets location,may change significantly according to the neck position.Dynamic imaging can provide additional useful information to the diagnosis of CVJ instability.Future studies addressing the relationship between craniometrical changes and neck position are necessary.Otávio Turolo da Silva Enrico Ghizoni Helder Tedeschi Andrei Fernandes Joaquim 2017World Journal of Orthopedics2017,8,3:2
