| 1 | Age exerts a continuous effect in the outcomes of Asian breast cancer patients treated with breast-conserving therapy显示文摘Background:Asians are diagnosed with breast cancer at a younger age than Caucasians are.We studied the effect of age on locoregional recurrence and the survival of Asian breast cancer patients treated with breast-conserving therapy.Methods:Medical records of 2492 patients treated with breast-conserving therapy between 1989 and 2012 were reviewed.The Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate locoregional recurrence,breast cancer-free survival,and breast cancer-specific survival rates.These rates were then compared using log-rank tests.Outcomes and age were modeled by Cox proportional hazards.Fractional polynomials were then used to test for non-linear relationships between age and outcomes.Results:Patients≤40 years old were more likely to have locoregional recurrence than were older patients(Hazard ratio[HR]=2.32,P<0.001).Locoregional recurrence rates decreased year-on-year by 4%for patients with luminal-type breast cancers,compared with 8%for those with triple-negative cancers.Similarly,breast cancer-free survival rates increased year-on-year by 4%versus 8%for luminal-type and triple-negative cancers,respectively.Breast cancer-spe-cific survival rates increased with age by 5%year-on-year.Both breast cancer-free survival and breast cancer-specific survival rates in patients with luminal cancers exhibited a non-linear(“L-shaped”)relationship-where decreasing age at presentation was associated with escalating risks of relapse and death.The influence of age on overall survival was confounded by competing non-cancer deaths in older women,resulting in a“U-shaped”relationship.Conclusions:Young Asian breast cancer patients have a continuous year-on-year increase in rates of disease relapse and cancer deaths compared with older patients with no apparent threshold. | Fuh Yong Wong Wei Ying Tham Wen Long Nei Cindy Lim Hui Miao | 2018 | Cancer Communications2018,38,1: | 9 |
| 2 | A numerical assessment of two geometries for reducing elbow erosion显示文摘Elbows in pneumatic conveying systems are normally prone to the erosive effects of conveyed particles.There are a number of solutions available to reduce such damage.A widely used geometric alternative for replacing the 90°elbow and reducing erosive wear is the plugged tee.Another option,although less commonly used,is the vortex-chamber elbow.In both cases,the effective reduction in erosion brought about is unclear,as it strongly depends on the operating conditions.The present study assesses relative erosion among the plugged tee,vortex-chamber elbow,and standard elbow for a dilute gas-solid multiphase flow.A numerical model is employed to predict the penetration ratio and validated using experimental data for the plugged tee.Simulations are run for the standard and vortex-chamber elbows and plugged tee under the same conditions to compare the mechanics involved and the relative erosion reduction.The analysis uses variables relating to particle-wall interactions(impact angle,impact velocity,impact frequency)to illustrate the nature of the erosive process in each pipe fitting.In general,the geometric configurations of both the plugged tee and vortex-chamber elbow promote changes in particle dynamics that reduce the rate of erosion.On the basis of the relative erosion of the standard elbow,the plugged tee proves to be an interesting option in cases of a low mass loading,while the vortex-chamber elbow demonstrates its erosion reduction potential for higher mass loading conditions.Furthermore,the advantages and disadvantages of each fitting are highlighted. | Carlos Antonio Ribeiro Duarte Francisco Joséde Souza Diego Nei Venturi Martin Sommerfeld | 2020 | Particuology2020,18,2: | 3 |

| 6 | Early-onset primary torsional dystonia in a 4-generation Chinese family with a mutation in the DYT1 gene显示文摘Primary torsion dystonia (PTD) is a clinically and genetically heterogeneous movement disorder. At least thirteen different types of dystonia can be distinguished on a genetic basis.1 The DYT1 gene was first mapped by Ozelius et al in 1989.2 (Kramer et) al3 linked the same locus to PTD in 12 Ashkenazi Jewish families in 1990.
