Vegetation-environment relationships in the forests of Chitral district Hindukush range of Pakistan显示文摘We investigated the composition of plant communities to quantify their relationships with environmental parameters in the Chitral Hindukush range of Pakistan. We sampled tree vegetation using the Point Centered Quarter (PCQ) method while understory vegetation was sampled in 1.5-m circular quadrats. Cedrus deodara is the national symbol of Pakistan and was dominant in the sampled communities. Because environmental variables determine vegetation types, we analyzed and evaluated edaphic and topographic factors. DCA-Ordination showed the major gradient as an amalgam of elevation (p<0.05) and slope (p<0.01) as the topographic factors correlated with species distribution. Soil variables were the factors of environmental significance along DCA axes. However, among these factors, Mg2+ , K + and N2+ contributed not more than 0.054% 0.20% and 0.073%, respectively, to variation along the first ordination axis. We conclude that the principal reason for weak or no correlation with many edaphic variables was the anthropogenic disturbance of vegetation. The understory vegetation was composed of perennial herbs in most communities and was most dense under the tree canopy. The understory vegetation strongly regulates tree seedling growth and regeneration patterns. We recommend further study of the understory vegetation using permanent plots to aid development of forest regeneration strategies.Nasrullah Khan Syed Shahid Shaukat Moinuddin Ahmed Muhammad Faheem Siddiqui 2013Journal of Forestry Research2013,24,2:8
Vegetation-environment relationship in conifer dominating forests of the mountainous range of Indus Kohistan in northern Pakistan显示文摘Environmental variables play a crucial role in shaping vegetation structure, mainly in mountainous ecosystems.Different studies have attempted to identify the environment-vegetation relationship of Conifer Dominating Forests(CDF)worldwide. However, due to differences in local climate and soil composition, different environmental drivers can be found.By applying multivariate analysis techniques, this study investigated the vegetation-environment relationship of CDF of Indus Kohistan in northern Pakistan. Our results showed that CDF of Indus Kohistan are distributed in five distinct ecological groups, which are dominated by different trees and understory species.A total of 7 trees and 71 understory species were recorded from the sampling sites.Cedrus deodara was the leading species among four groups, having the highest importance value(IV),density and basal area.Group I was dominated by Pinus wallichiana with the second highest importance value, density and basal area.In addition, elevation, slope, maximum water holding capacity(MWHC),soil moisture(SM),total organic matter(TOM),sodium, phosphorus and nickel showed highly significant influence on composition and distribution pattern of Indus Kohistan vegetation. Therefore, this study shows a new evidence of vegetation-environment relationship, pointing out specific drivers of vegetation structure in CDF of Indus Kohistan region in northern Pakistan.Adam KHAN Moinuddin AHMED Muhammad Faheem SIDDIQI Mohib SHAH Eduardo Soares CALIXTO Afsheen KHAN Paras SHAH Javed IQBAL Muhammad AZEEM 2020Journal of Mountain Science2020,17,8:1
Position Control of Flexible Joint Carts Using Adaptive Generalized Dynamics Inversion显示文摘This paper presents the design and implementation of Adaptive Generalized Dynamic Inversion(AGDI)to track the position of a Linear Flexible Joint Cart(LFJC)system along with vibration suppression of the flexible joint. The proposed AGDI control law will be comprised of two control elements. The baseline(continuous)control law is based on principle of conventional GDI approach and is established by prescribing the constraint dynamics of controlled state variables that reflect the control objectives. The control law is realized by inverting the prescribed dynamics using dynamically scaledMoore-Penrose generalized inversion. To boost the robust attributes against system nonlinearities, parametric uncertainties and external perturbations,a discontinuous control law will be augmented which is based on the concept of sliding mode principle. In discontinuous control law,the sliding mode gain is made adaptive in order to achieve improved tracking performance and chattering reduction. The closed-loop stability of resultant control law is established by introducing a positive define Lyapunov candidate function such that semi-global asymptotic attitude tracking of LFJC system is guaranteed.Rigorous computer simulations followed by experimental investigation will be performed on Quanser’s LFJC system to authenticate the feasibility of proposed control approach for its application to real world problems.Ibrahim M.Mehedi Mohd Heidir Mohd Shah Soon Xin Ng Abdulah Jeza Aljohani Mohammed El-Hajjar Muhammad Moinuddin 2022Computers, Materials & Continua2022,,3:0
Financial development during COVID‑19 pandemic:the role of coronavirus testing and functional labs显示文摘The outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in early 2020,known as COVID-19,spread to more than 200 countries and negatively affected the global economic output.Financial activities were primarily depressed, and investors were reluctant to start new financial investments while ongoing projects further declined due to the global lockdown to curb the disease. This study analyzes the money supply reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic using a cross-sectional panel of 115 countries. The study used robust least square regression and innovation accounting techniques to get sound parameter estimates. The results show that COVID-19 infected cases are the main contributing factor that obstructs financial activities and decrease money supply. In contrast,an increasing number of recovered cases and COVID-19 testing capabilities gave investors confidence to increase stock trade across countries. The overall forecast trend shows that COVID-19 infected cases and recovered cases followed the U-shaped trend, while COVID-19 critical cases and reported deaths showed a decreasing trend. Finally, the money supply and testing capacity show a positive trend over a period. The study concludes that financial development can be expanded by increasing the testing capacity and functional labs to identify suspected coronavirus cases globally.Muhammad Khalid Anser Muhammad Azhar Khan Khalid Zaman Abdelmohsen A.Nassani Sameh E.Askar Muhammad Moinuddin Qazi Abro Ahmad Kabbani 2021Financial Innovation2021,7,1:0
Population structure, age and growth rates of conifer species and their relation to environmental variables at Malam Jabba,Swat District,Pakistan显示文摘This study focuses on age, growth rate and diameter distribution of pine forests in the Malam Jabba area,Swat District,Pakistan.Wood core samples were taken from twenty stands.Picea smithiana was the oldest at 234 years with a 112-cm diameter.Abies pindrow was 125 years with an 80-cm diameter while the oldest Pinus wallichiana was 122 years with 75-cm diameter. The fastest overall growth rate of 1.5±0.1 year/cm was for P.wallichiana on a west-facing aspect, while the slowest 5.8±2.6 year/cm growth was P.smithiana on an eastfacing exposure.P.wallichiana and A.pindrow exhibited marked differences in growth rates over a 5-year period. The highest growth was by P.wallichiana from 1966 to 2006.A.pindrow showed less growth over the same years, such pattern simultaneously reverse from 1911 to 1965.The relationship between diameter and age, diameter and growth rate and age and growth rate were correlated.P.wallichiana and A.pindrow ages were correlated with diameter and growth rates.P.smithiana age was positive correlated with diameter.Generally, topographic and edaphic factors did not show significant correlations with growth rates, although some appreciable correlations were recorded. The growth of P.wallichiana was correlated with elevation while A.pindrow was correlated with maximum water retaining capacity.Diameter and age produced uneven size classes and many size gaps, which could be the result of anthropogenic disturbances.Arsalan Muhammad Faheem Siddiqui Moinuddin Ahmed Syed Shahid Shaukat Alamdar Hussain 2020Journal of Forestry Research2020,31,2:0
A Novel Krill Herd Based Random Forest Algorithm for Monitoring Patient Health显示文摘Artificial Intelligence(AI)is finding increasing application in healthcare monitoring.Machine learning systems are utilized for monitoring patient health through the use of IoT sensor, which keep track of the physiological state by way of various health data. Thus, early detection of any disease or derangement can aid doctors in saving patients’lives. However, there are some challenges associated with predicting health status using the common algorithms, such as time requirements, chances of errors, and improper classification. We propose an Artificial Krill Herd based on the Random Forest(AKHRF)technique for monitoring patients’health and eliciting an optimal prescription based on their health status. To begin with, various patient datasets were collected and trained into the system using IoT sensors. As a result, the framework developed includes four processes:preprocessing, feature extraction, classification, and result visibility.Additionally, preprocessing removes errors, noise, and missing values from the dataset, whereas feature extraction extracts the relevant information. Then,in the classification layer,we updated the fitness function of the krill herd to classify the patient’s health status and also generate a prescription. We found that the results fromthe proposed framework are comparable to the results from other state-of-the-art techniques in terms of sensitivity, specificity,Area under the Curve(AUC),accuracy, precision, recall, and F-measure.Md.Moddassir Alam Md Mottahir Alam Muhammad Moinuddin Mohammad Tauheed Ahmad Jabir Hakami Anis Ahmad Chaudhary Asif Irshad Khan Tauheed Khan Mohd 2023Computers, Materials & Continua2023,,5:0
