12Measurement of trimethylamine concentration and evaluation of pig meat natural quality by a spectrophotometric method显示文摘Pig meat off-flavor is attributed to trimethylamine(TMA)concentration,and it is considered as the precursor of the fishy off-flavor problems.In this study,TMA concentrations in pig meat were determined,and the interactions with breed and gender effects were discussed.In addition,the TMA threshold for meat off-flavor and pig meat natural quality was measured in relation to meat storage and movement,and the influential factors including the pig breed and storage time were discussed.The results indicated positive effects on the precursor of the fishy off-flavor and the TMA threshold.Native breeds were found to have lower TMA concentrations than European breeds(P<0.01),and females and castrated males had significantly lower TMA concentration than males(P<0.01),The threshold concentration of TMA when meat was classed as off-flavored was 25μg·g^(–1),and this occurred after 35–38 h of storage.The natural qualities,such as appearance,flavor,color and overall acceptable scores declined significantly after 4 days in storage(P<0.01).It is concluded that pig meat off-flavor,breed and gender were essential factors affecting flavor for meat breeding programs,and storage time is important for pig meat natural quality.Mohammod Abdul HAMID Xi WANG Xiangdong DING Chuduan WANG Xingbo ZHAO 2014Frontiers of Agricultural Science and Engineering2014,1,3:0
13Effect of an amalgamated antibiotic and its connection to cytogenotoxicity and histo-architectural malformations in stinging catfish显示文摘Intensive fish farming has an excessive prevalence of infection and is typically controlled by the administration of antibiotics.Although amalgamated antibiotics are a relatively novel therapeutic idea and more effective than traditional antibiotic monotherapy,they can also have a toxic effect on the fish body when it is administered abruptly.This study investigated the cyto-genotoxic effects on erythrocytes and histo-architectural malformations in the liver and kidneys of stinging catfish(Heteropneustes fossilis)in relation to Enrocip plus use as an amalgamated antibiotic agent.The experimental fish with an initial average weight of 17.38±1.94 g were divided into four treatment groups with antibiotic doses:according to the recommendation of the manufacturer 0.167 mg/ml Enrocip plus was used as a standard dose(x)and it was treated as T3,while 0%of the standard dose(0×mg/ml),1/2×(0.083 mg/ml),and 2×(0.333 mg/ml)were treated as T1,T2 and T4,respectively for a period of 30 days.The observed erythrocyte cellular deformities(ECD)were twin,tear-drop,serrated,tail budded and de-membranated cells,whereas the erythrocyte nuclear deformities(END)were a nuclear bridge,bi-nucleus,nuclear termination,karyopyknosis,and micronucleus at different concentrations of Enrocip plus.Both ECD and END percentages experienced the interaction of antibiotic dose and exposure time,and were significantly different(P<0.01).Significant changes in hepatocytes,mild to severe necrosis,vacuole formation,and hepatopancreas damage were also observed in the liver of the treated fish whereas highly degraded renal tubules and hematopoietic tissue,glomerular occlusion,and vacuolation were evident in the kidneys.The current investigation fully emphasizes the adverse effects of amalgamated antibiotics on the cytogenotoxicity and the histomorphology of the kidneys and liver of fish.Thus,the use of an amalgamated antibiotic in aquaculture must be carefully evaluated.Mostt Tajnova Islam Golam Mohammod Mostakim Md Golam Azom Umme Ohida Rahman Mst Mansura Khan Mohd Golam Quader Khan M.Sadiqul Islam 2022Emerging Contaminants2022,8,1:0
14Growth performance,fatty acid profile,gut,and muscle histo-morphology of Malaysian mahseer,Tor tambroides post larvae fed short-term host associated probiotics显示文摘Host associated probiotics(HAPs)provide health benefits to the host when administered as dietary supplement.However,a short-term probiotics application strategy has yet to be optimized.A 90-days study was conducted to evaluate the response of Malaysian mahseer,Tor tambroides post larvae fed with basal diet enriched HAPs for 30-days,and its response following another 60-days feeding with only basal diet.Three experimental diets(Enterococcus faecalis strain 2674(T1),Aeromonas sp.strain A8-29(T2)and E.faecalis strain FC11682(T3))were prepared by spray-coating each HAPs on a basal diet at 1×108 CFU/g feed.Differences in growth performances,whole-body proximate and fatty acid composition,muscle morphometry,and gut morphology were evaluated.Results showed that after 30 days,T3 fish produced highest growth.All HAP treatment groups showed better muscle distribution profile,improved fatty acid composition,and higher villus length,width and area,than control group.After 90 days,the growth of T3 fish was still the highest.Muscle distribution profile and villus growth were higher in HAP treatments,although only total n-6 PUFA,total MUFA,linoleic acids,and linolenic acids in HAP treated fish remained high after probiotics withdrawal.No difference in whole-body proximate composition was observed in both 30 and 90 days.Collective findings demonstrated that short-term application of HAPs at an early stage could be used to boost T.tambroides growth,with E.faecalis strain FC11682 showing the best efficacy.Mohammod Kamruzzaman Hossain Sairatul Dahlianis Ishak Shumpei Iehata Mat Noordin Noordiyana Md Abdul Kader Ambok Bolong Abol-Munafi 2024Aquaculture and Fisheries2024,9,1:0
