| 1 | Histopathological Study of Trabeculum after Excimer Laser Trabeculectomy ab Interno显示文摘Purpose: To study the clinical manifestations and histopathologic changes of trabeculum after excimer laser trabeculectomy ab interno (ELT), and to investigate the mechanisms of ELT in reducing intraocular pressure.
Methods : ELT was performed on ten rabbit eves and postoperative responses were documented. Comeoscleral tissue samples were harvested consecutively each week until the 5th postoperative week and these samples were examined under light and electrical microscopy.
Results: Mild stimulation signs were present postoperatix'ely in nine of ten eyes, but no serious complications were experienced. Obvious inflammation was observed in one rabbit eye as a result of iris damage during the surgical manipulations. Local kactures on the trabecular meshwork and openings into Schlemm' s canal were detected in all tissue samples under light microscope. Mitochondria were found to be turgescent and dilated like vacuoles and endoplasmic reticula were found to be dilated under electrical microscope in the early postoperative period. Later, all trabecular cells returned normal and no fihroblast cells were ever detected.
Conclusions: Permanent openings through trabecular meshwork into the inner wall of Schlemm's canal can be created with ELT. The outflow resistance of aqueous humor can be reduced with these openings and intraocular pressure can be controlled thereafter. | 2 | The Management of Secondary Glaucoma in Nanophthalmic Patients显示文摘Purpose: To investigate the clinical characteristcs, management of secondary glaucoma in nanophthalmos, and the prevention of its complications.Methods: Retrospectively, 9 cases (17 eyes) with nanophthalmic glaucoma were studied.Results: The axial length of the eyes ranged (14.36 ~ 19.33) mm; All of the cases combined with hyperopia ranged (+7.00~+16.00)D. All 17 eyes had the manifestation like angle-closure glaucoma.The glaucoma was controlled in 9 of 17 eyes at the early stage, which underwent laser iridotomy (4 of 9 eyes also underwent laser iridoplasty). 1 eye underwent ciliary photocoagulation because its visual acuity was lost and the patient complained of pain. The other 7 eyes underwent filtration surgery and 3 of them had permanent loss of vision caused by disastrous complications after the surgery.Conclusions: Management of secondary glaucoma in nanophthalmos is complicated. The laser iris surgery is safe and effective in glaucoma at the early stage. | 3 | Seven-year follow-up of spontaneously resolved primary congenital glaucoma:a case report显示文摘Background:Spontaneously resolved primary congenital glaucoma is rare and the mechanism remains unknown.Previous literature described the phenomenon of spontaneous resolution of primary congenital glaucoma,with no further reports on follow-up visits and visual development of patients.We report a case of unilateral spontaneously resolved primary congenital glaucoma at a 7-year follow-up visit and describe the differential development of axial length(AL)between affected eye and healthy eye.Case Description:A 6-year-old boy firstly presented at Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center with expanded corneas and ruptures in Descemet’s membranes(Haab’s striae)and apparently thin retinal nerve fiber layer(RNFL)in the left eye(LE),but normal intraocular pressure(IOP)of both eyes without anti-glaucoma medications or surgeries.At 7-year follow-up,the IOPs of bilateral eyes were stable ranging from 8 to 11 mmHg.A cup to disc ratio and the RNFL was stable in the LE at the following visit.The AL increased almost 3 mm in the right eye(RE)but 1.5 mm in the LE.Without anti-glaucoma medications or surgeries,the primary congenital glaucoma was spontaneously resolved.Conclusions:It may figure out the development and influence of the affected eye of the patient,including AL and refraction state with regular ophthalmic examination at periodic follow-up. | Qiaona Ye Yunzhen Wang Jiangang Xu Minbin Yu Yangfan Yang | 2022 | Annals of Eye Science2022，，2： | 0 |
| 4 | Effect of 0. 2 % Brimonidine on Retinal Blood Flow显示文摘Purpose: To analyze the effect of 0.2 % brimonidine eye drops on retinal blood flow of patients with glaucoma.
Methods: Using self-control method and Heidelberg Retina Flowmeter (HRF), we examined the volume, flow and velocity of the superior nasal and temporal, the inferior nasal and temporal artery of retina at baseline and 2 hours after single instillation of 0.2% brimonidine.
Results: There were no significant changes in volume, fio~ and velocity of four vessels betore and after the administration of 0.2 % brimonidine.
Conclusions: There are no significant ocular haemodvnamic benefits associated with Brimonidine therapy to the glaucoma patients.
