1ON THE NATURAL FREQUENCIES,COMPLEX MODE FUNCTIONS,AND CRITICAL SPEEDS OF AXIALLY TRAVELING LAMINATED BEAMS:PARAMETRIC STUDY显示文摘The dynamic response of an axially traveling laminated composite beam is investigated analytically, with special consideration to natural frequencies, complex mode functions and critical speeds of the system. The equation of motion for a symmetrically laminated system, which is in the form of a continuous gyroscopic system,is considered;the equation of motion is not discretized - no spatial mode function is assumed. This leads to analytical expressions for the complex mode functions and critical speeds.A parametric study has been conducted in order to highlight the effects of system parameters on the above-mentioned vibration characteristics of the system.Mergen H.Ghayesh 2011Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica2011,24,4:2
2Effect of coronary artery dynamics on the wall shear stress vector field topological skeleton in fluid–structure interaction analyses显示文摘In this paper,we investigate the impact of coronary artery dynamics on the wall shear stress(WSS)vector field topology by comparing fluid–structure interaction(FSI)and computational fluid dynamics(CFD)techniques. As one of the most common causes of death globally, coronary artery disease(CAD)is a significant economic burden;however, novel approaches are still needed to improve our ability to predict its progression.FSI can include the unique dynamical factors present in the coronary vasculature. To investigate the impact of these dynamical factors,we study an idealized artery model with sequential stenosis. The transient simulations made use of the hyperelastic artery and lipid constitutive equations, non‐Newtonian blood viscosity, and the characteristic out‐of‐phase pressure and velocity distribution of the left anterior descending coronary artery. We compare changes to established metrics of time‐averaged WSS(TAWSS)and the oscillatory shear index(OSI)to changes in the emerging WSS divergence, calculated here in a modified version to handle the deforming mesh of FSI simulations. Results suggest that the motion of the artery can impact downstream patterns in both divergence and OSI.WSS magnitude is also decreased by up to 57%due to motion in some regions.WSS divergence patterns varied most significantly between simulations over the systolic period, the time of the largest displacements. This investigation highlights that coronary dynamics could impact markers of potential CAD progression and warrants further detailed investigations in more diverse geometries and patient cases.Harry J.Carpenter Mergen H.Ghayesh Anthony C.Zander Peter J.Psaltis 2023International Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics2023,3,1:1
3Free vibrations of beam-mass-spring systems:analytical analysis with numerical confirmation显示文摘Free vibrations of a beam-mass-spring system with different boundary conditions are analyzed both analytically and numerically. In the analytical analysis, the system is divided into three subsystems and the effects of the spring and the point mass are considered as internal boundary conditions between any two neighboring subsystems. The partial differential equations governing the motion of the subsystems and internal boundary conditions are then solved using the method of separation of variables. In the numerical analysis, the whole system is considered as a single system and the effects of the spring and point mass are introduced using the Dirac delta function. The Galerkin method is then employed to discretize the equation of motion and the resulting set of ordinary differential equations are solved via eigenvalue analysis.Analytical and numerical results are shown to be in very good agreement.Mohammad A.Darabi Siavash Kazemirad Mergen H.Ghayesh 2012Acta Mechanica Sinica2012,28,2:0
4Modal interactions in primary and subharmonic resonant dynamics of imperfect microplates with geometric nonlinearities显示文摘This paper analyses the modal interactions in the nonlinear, size-dependent dynamics of geometrically imperfect microplates. Based on the modified couple stress theory, the equations of motion for the in-plane and out-of-plane motions are obtained employing the von Kármán plate theory as well as Kirchhoff's hypotheses by means of the Lagrange equations. The equations of motions are solved using the pseudo-arclength continuation technique and direct timeintegration method. The system parameters are tuned to the values associated with modal interactions, and then nonlinear resonant responses and energy transfer are analysed.Nonlinear motion characteristics are shown in the form of frequency-response and force-response curves, time histories, phase-plane portraits, and fast Fourier transforms.Hamed Farokhi Mergen H.Ghayesh 2016Acta Mechanica Sinica2016,32,3:0
