1Are probiotics useful in Helicobacter pylori eradication?显示文摘Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) is considered an etiologic factor for the development of peptic ulcer disease,gastric adenocarcinoma, and MALT lymphoma.Therapeutic schemes to eradicate the bacteria are based on double antibiotic therapy and proton pump inhibitor. Despite many therapeutic improvements in H. pylori eradication treatment, it is still associated with high infection rate also in developed countries.Bacterial resistance and adverse events occurrence are among most frequent causes for anti- H. pylori treatment failure. Several studies have reported that certain probiotic strains can exhibit inhibitory activity against H. pylori bacteria. In addition, some probiotic strains can reduce the occurrence of side effects due to antibiotic therapy and consequently increase the H.pylori eradication rate. The results of the prospective double-blind placebo-controlled studies suggest that specific probiotics, such as S. boulardii and L.johnsonni La1 probably can diminish the bacterial load,but not completely eradicate the H. pylori bacteria.Furthermore, it seems that supplementation with S. boulardii is a useful concomitant therapy in the standard H. pylori eradication treatment protocol and most probably increases eradication rate. L. reuteri is equally effective, but more positive studies are needed. Finally, probiotic strains, such as S. boulardii,L. reuteri and L. 4Helicobacter pylori virulence genes显示文摘Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)is one of the most important human pathogens,infecting approximately half of the global population.Despite its high prevalence,only a subset of H.pylori infected individuals develop serious gastroduodenal pathology.The pathogenesis of H.pylori infection and disease outcome is thus thought to be mediated by an intricate interplay between host,environmental and bacterial virulence factors.H.pylori has adapted to the harsh milieu of the human stomach through possession of various virulence genes that enable survival of the bacteria in the acidic environment,movement towards the gastric epithelium,and attachment to gastric epithelial cells.These virulence factors enable successful colonization of the gastric mucosa and sustain persistent H.pylori infection,causing chronic inflammation and tissue damage,which may eventually lead to the development of peptic ulcers and gastric cancer.Numerous studies have focused on the prevalence and role of putative H.pylori virulence genes in disease pathogenesis.While several virulence factors with various functions have been identified,disease associations appear to be less evident,especially among different study populations.This review presents key findings on the most important H.pylori virulence genes,including several bacterial adhesins and toxins,in children and adults,and focuses on their prevalence,clinical significance and potential relationships.Anja Sterbenc Erika Jarc Mario Poljak Matjaz Homan 2019World Journal of Gastroenterology2019,25,33:19
5Abernethy syndrome in Slovenian children: Five case reports and review of literature显示文摘BACKGROUND Abernethy syndrome is a congenital vascular anomaly in which the portal blood completely or partially bypasses the liver through a congenital portosystemic shunt.Although the number of recognized and reported cases is gradually increasing,Abernethy syndrome is still a rare disease entity,with an estimated prevalence between 1 per 30000 to 1 per 50000 cases.With this case series,we aimed to contribute to the growing knowledge of potential clinical presentations,course and complications of congenital portosystemic shunts(CPSS)in children.CASE SUMMARY Five children are presented in this case series:One female and four males,two with an intrahepatic CPSS and three with an extrahepatic CPSS.The first patient,who was diagnosed with an intrahepatic CPSS,presented with gastrointestinal bleeding,abdominal pain and hyperammonaemia at six years of age.He underwent a percutaneous embolization of his shunt and has remained asymptomatic ever since.The second patient presented with direct hyperbilirubinemia in the neonatal period and his intrahepatic CPSS later spontaneously regressed.The third patient had pulmonary hypertension and hyperammonaemia due to complete portal vein agenesis and underwent liver transplantation at five years of age.The fourth patient was diagnosed immediately after birth,when evaluated due to another congenital vascular anomaly,and the last patient presented as a teenager with recurrent bone fractures associated with severe osteoporosis.In addition,the last two patients are characterised by benign liver nodules;however,they are clinically stable on symptomatic therapy.CONCLUSION Abernethy syndrome is a rare anomaly with diverse clinical features,affecting almost all organ systems and presenting at any age.Jerneja Pecek Petja Fister Matjaz Homan 2020World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,37:6
6Enhancement of pacemaker induced stochastic resonance by an autapse in a scale-free neuronal network显示文摘An autapse is an unusual synapse that occurs between the axon and the soma of the same neuron. Mathematically, it can be described as a self-delayed feedback loop that is defined by a specific time-delay and the so-called autaptic coupling strength. Recently, the role and function of autapses within the nervous system has been studied extensively. Here, we extend the scope of theoretical research by investigating the effects of an autapse on the transmission of a weak localized pacemaker activity in a scale-free neuronal network. Our results reveal that by mediating the spiking activity of the pacemaker neuron, an autapse increases the propagation of its rhythm across the whole network, if only the autaptic time delay and the autaptic coupling strength are properly adjusted. We show that the autapse-induced enhancement of the transmission of pacemaker activity occurs only when the autaptic time delay is close to an integer multiple of the intrinsic oscillation time of the neurons that form the network. In particular, we demonstrate the emergence of multiple resonances involving the weak signal, the intrinsic oscillations, and the time scale that is dictated by the autapse. Interestingly, we also show that the enhancement of the pacemaker rhythm across the network is the strongest if the degree of the pacemaker neuron is lowest. This is because the dissipation of the localized rhythm is contained to the few directly linked neurons, and only afterwards, through the secondary neurons, it propagates further. 7Taming desynchronized bursting with delays in the Macaque cortical network显示文摘Inhibitory coupled bursting Hindmarsh-Rose neurons are considered as constitutive units of the Macaque cortical network. In the absence of information transmission delay the bursting activity is desynchronized,giving rise to spatiotemporally disordered dynamics. This paper shows that the introduction of finite delays can lead to the synchronization of bursting and thus to the emergence of coherent propagating fronts of excitation in the space-time domain. Moreover,it shows that the type of synchronous bursting is uniquely determined by the delay length,with the transitions from one type to the other occurring in a step-like manner depending on the delay. Interestingly,as the delay is tuned close to the transition points,the synchronization deteriorates,which implies the coexistence of different bursting attractors. 8The 4th World Landslide Forum: Landslide Research and Risk Reduction for Advancing the Culture of Living with Natural Hazards显示文摘The World Landslide Forum is a triennial mainstream conference that gathers together the scientific and technological community, policymakers, industry actors, public officials, and other stakeholders, who deal with the understanding and management of landslide disaster risk. The establishment of the ISDR-ICL Sendai Partnerships 2015–2025 for Global Promotion of Understanding and Reducing Landslide Disaster Risk in Sendai during the 2015 World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction(WCDRR) enabled the landslide science and technology community support the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030 in order to prevent new and reduce existing disaster risk.The 4th World Landslide Forum(WLF4) was held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from 29 May to 2 June 2017 and discussed the progress of landslide research and risk reduction for advancing the culture of living with natural hazards. A high-level panel composed of United Nations officials, international stakeholders, and national organizations sought to identify the best mechanisms to be developed by the community of the International Consortium on Landslides(ICL). The objective was to advance the implementation of the ISDR-ICL Sendai Partnerships,to achieve a better commitment among partners, and to provide substantive services to developing countries. 9Delay-aided stochastic multiresonances on scale-free FitzHugh-Nagumo neuronal networks显示文摘The stochastic resonance in paced time-delayed scale-free FitzHugh-Nagumo(FHN) neuronal networks is investigated.We show that an intermediate intensity of additive noise is able to optimally assist the pacemaker in imposing its rhythm on the whole ensemble.Furthermore,we reveal that appropriately tuned delays can induce stochastic multiresonances,appearing at every integer multiple of the pacemaker's oscillation period.We conclude that fine-tuned delay lengths and locally acting pacemakers are vital for ensuring optimal conditions for stochastic resonance on complex neuronal networks.甘春标 Perc Matjaz 王青云 2010Chinese Physics B2010,19,4:3
