1Effects of Bacterial-Feeding Nematode Grazing and Tea Saponin Addition on the Enhanced Bioremediation of Pyrene-Contaminated Soil Using Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon-Degrading Bacterial Strain显示文摘As one of the most widely distributed bacterial predators in the soil, the role of bacterivorous nematodes on the enhanced bioremediation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon-contaminated soils is crucial, but remains to be investigated.A microcosm-level study was conducted to examine the effects of bacterial-feeding nematode grazing and tea saponin(TS) addition on bioremediation of a pyrene-contaminated soil enhanced by the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon(PAH)-degrading bacterial strain Sphingobium sp.PHE9.After 180 d of incubation, the highest pyrene dissipation(71.3%) was achieved through a combination of Sphingobium sp.PHE9 inoculation with nematode and TS addition.Meanwhile, high counts of culturable PAH-degrading bacteria, soil enzyme activity, and biodiversity indices were observed under the combined treatment, implying that the microbiological function of the contaminated soil was significantly restored.Additionally, the results of Tenax~ extraction with the first-order three-compartment model indicated that rate-limiting factors varied among treatments.The lack of degrading microorganisms was the main rate-limiting factor for the treatments involving TS/nematode addition, and inadequate bioaccessible pyrene was the vital rate-limiting factor in the treatments involving Sphingobium sp.PHE9 inoculation.The proposed combined clean-up strategy proved to be a promising bioremediation technology for aged pyrene-contaminated soils.SUN Mingming LIU Kuan ZHAO Yuanchao TIAN Da YE Mao LIU Manqiang JIAO Jiaguo JIANG Xin 2017Pedosphere2017,27,6:7
2Biochar Combined with Vermicompost Increases Crop Production While Reducing Ammonia and Nitrous Oxide Emissions from a Paddy Soil显示文摘Organic amendments such as vermicompost and biochar have been reported to enhance soil fertility and crop productivity.However, whether the co-application of both amendments has synergistic effects or whether such benefits are accompanied by the risk of gaseous nitrogen(N) loss in an agroecosystem remains unknown. A soil column experiment with a fully factorial design was conducted using three levels of vermicompost(no dose, low dose(1%, weight:weight), and high dose(3%, weight:weight)) without or with biochar(1%, weight:weight) to investigate their effects on rice growth and gaseous N loss across the crop growing season. Our results demonstrated that synergistic interactions existed between vermicompost and biochar in promoting crop yield. Compared with biochar amendment alone, biochar combined with vermicompost significantly(P < 0.01) increased rice yield by 26.5%–35.3%. However,high dose of vermicompost significantly(P < 0.01) increased the cumulative ammonia(NH_3) and nitrous oxide(N_2O) emissions. In the presence of vermicompost, the incorporation of biochar amendment significantly(P < 0.01) decreased the cumulative N_2O emission by 14.1%–18.6%. The lowest emission factor value of NH_3 and N_2O was achieved using biochar in combination with low dose of vermicompost. 3Contribution of bacterivorous nematodes to soil resistance and resilience under copper or heat stress显示文摘The functional performance of soil ecosystems following disturbance determines ecosystem stability,and although contributions of bacterivorous nematodes to soil ecosystems are recognized,their roles in functional stability have received little attention.The objective of this study was to evaluate the roles of bacterivorous nematodes in functional stability following stress.In a factorial laboratory experiment,soil microcosms were prepared with two levels of nematode abundance,either an enriched abundance of bacterivores(Nema soil)or background abundance of nematodes(CK soil),and three levels of stress,copper,heat,or an unstressed control.The resistance and resilience of nematode abundance,as well as soil microbial function by determining decomposition of plant residues and microbial substrate utilization pattern using a BIOLOG microplate,were followed post stress.The relative changes of two dominant bacterivores,Acrobeloides and Protorhabditis,responded differently to stresses.The resistance and resilience of Protorhabditis were greater than that of Acrobeloides to copper stress during the whole incubation period,while both bacterivores only showed higher resilience under heat stress at the end of incubation.The enrichment of bacterivores had no significant effects on the soil microbial resistance but significantly increased its resilience to copper stress.Under heat stress,the positive effect of bacterivores on soil resilience was only evident from 28 days to the end of incubation.The differences in the responses of soil function to stress with or without bacterivores suggested that soil nematodes could be conducive to ecosystem stability,highlighting the soil fauna should be taken into account in soil sustainable management.Xiaoyun Chen Wenfeng Xue Jingrong Xue Bryan S.Griffiths Manqiang Liu 2020Soil Ecology Letters2020,2,3:1
