1Pathological,immunohistochemical and microbiologicalal analysis of lacrimal sac biopsies in patients with chronic dacrocystitis显示文摘AIM:To analyze cases of obstruction of the nasolacrimal duct which creates a fertile environment for secondary bacterial Infection and can result in dacryocystitis,which is a constant threat to cornea and orbital soft tissue and a potential source of endophthalmitis following intraocular surgery.The majority of obstructions of the lacrimal excretory outflow system are acquired ones occurring in adulthood and involving the distal parts of the system.Acquired obstruction may be primary/idiopathic or secondary to a wide variety of infectious,inflammatory,traumatic,mechanical,toxic or neoplastic causes mimicking idiopathic inflammation.These cases are treated by dacryocystorhinostomy(DCR).METHODS:The present study was conducted to determine the histopathologic,immunohistochemical and current microbiologic characteristics of lacrimal sac specimens in patients undergoing external dacryocystorhinostomy.RESULTS:Non-specific lacrimal sac pathology was present in all 33 cases and 81.8%of the cases showed moderate chronic inflammation with a chronic inflammatory score(CIS)ranging between 4 and 6,whereas 12.12%showed severe inflammatory changes with a CIS of 7.Mild degree of inflammation was seen in6.06%with a CIS of 3.The total prevalence of grampositive,gram-negative,and culture-negative samples were 59.4%,37.5%,and 3%respectively.CONCLUSION:Non-specific chronic inflammation withfibrosis is indeed the most commonly reported histopathological finding in lacrimal sac wall biopsy specimens.Rowayda Mahmoud Amin Faten Aly Hussein Hisham Farouk Idriss Nesrine Fathy Hanafy Dina Mohamed Abdallah 2013International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2013,6,6:7
2Clinical outcomes of transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy versus femtosecond laser assisted keratomileusis for correction of high myopia in South Egyptian population显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy(t-PRK) with adjuvant mitomycin C(MMC) versus femtosecond laser assisted keratomileusis(Femto-LASIK) in correction of high myopia.METHODS: Prospective randomized comparative study including 156 eyes of 156 patients with high myopia and a spherical equivalent refraction(SER) <-6.00 D. They were divided randomly into two groups: Group A included 72 eyes treated with t-PRK with adjuvant MMC and Group B included 84 eyes treated with Femto-LASIK. Visual acuity, SER, corneal topography, pachymetry and keratometry were assessed for 12 mo postoperatively.RESULTS: The preoperative mean SER was-8.86±1.81 and-9.25±1.70 D in t-PRK MMC group and Femto-LASIK respectively(P=0.99) which improved to-0.65±0.43 D and-0.69±0.50 D at 12 mo follow up. Mean SER remained stable during the 12 mo of follow-up, with no statistically significant difference between the two groups(P=0.64). In t-PRK MMC group, only six eyes needed retreatment after six months of follow up. 3Arithmetic Optimization with Deep Learning Enabled Anomaly Detection in Smart City显示文摘In recent years,Smart City Infrastructures(SCI)have become familiar whereas intelligent models have been designed to improve the quality of living in smart cities.Simultaneously,anomaly detection in SCI has become a hot research topic and is widely explored to enhance the safety of pedestrians.The increasing popularity of video surveillance system and drastic increase in the amount of collected videos make the conventional physical investigation method to identify abnormal actions,a laborious process.In this background,Deep Learning(DL)models can be used in the detection of anomalies found through video surveillance systems.The current research paper develops an Internet of Things Assisted Deep Learning Enabled Anomaly Detection Technique for Smart City Infrastructures,named(IoTAD-SCI)technique.The aim of the proposed IoTAD-SCI technique is to mainly identify the existence of anomalies in smart city environment.Besides,IoTAD-SCI technique involves Deep Consensus Network(DCN)model design to detect the anomalies in input video frames.In addition,Arithmetic Optimization Algorithm(AOA)is executed to tune the hyperparameters of the DCN model.Moreover,ID3 classifier is also utilized to classify the identified objects in different classes.The experimental analysis was conducted for the proposed IoTADSCI technique upon benchmark UCSD anomaly detection dataset and the results were inspected under different measures.The simulation results infer the superiority of the proposed IoTAD-SCI technique under different metrics.Mahmoud Ragab Maha Farouk S.Sabir 2022Computers, Materials & Continua2022,,10:0

10Stabilizing soft clay using geo-foam beads and cement bypass dust显示文摘Soft clays are usually classified according to their undrained shear strength,Su.Values of Su less than 12.5 kPa are associated with very soft clays.In addition to their low shear strength,soft clays exhibit high compressibility upon loading.Therefore,soft clays are considered to be problematic for foundation purposes.Geo-foam is an industrial material that is characterized by a very low unit weight(20 kg/m^(3) on average)compared to that of the soil.The density of expanded polystyrene(EPS)ranges from 1.0%to 2.5%,which results in a compressive strength ranging between 70 kPa and 140 kPa and an elastic modulus ranging between 5 MPa and 12 MPa.EPS geofoam blocks are used in a wide range of geotechnical applications as a lightweight fill material.The main objective of this study was to investigate the geotechnical properties of soft clays containing geo-foam beads and cement bypass dust(CBPD).We also investigated the viability of preparing low-strength excavatable fill mixtures.To study the effect of(geofoam beads+CBPD)/soft clay on the fluid-state and hardened properties of new fill,we conducted experiments on two groups of mixtures(A&B).Each mixture contained different ratios of geo-foam beads and CBPD so that we could study the effect of the additive on the flow consistency,dry unit weight,unconfined compressive strength,and shear strength of the mixture.The test results showed that the unconfined compressive strength of the studied mixtures without geo-foam ranged from 271.8 kPa to 1405.14 kPa at CBPD concentrations between 3.88%and 18.63%.The cohesion values for the group containing geo-foam ranged from 50 kPa to 20 kPa at geo-foam percentages between 0.32%and 1.35%.The friction angle of the group containing geo-foam ranged from 10 kPa to 22 kPa at CBPD percentages between 0.32%and 1.35%.Cement bypass dust can be successfully used to process self-compacting,self-leveling,excavatable and flowable fill material.Essam Farouk Badrawi Mahmoud Samir El-kady 2020Underground Space2020,5,4:0
11Does local vaginal estrogen after tension-free transobturator vaginal tape reduce overactive bladder symptoms in postmenopausal women? A prospective randomized, controlled study显示文摘Objective:We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of topical estrogen after transvaginal tension-free vaginal tape-obturator(TVT-O)in the treatment of de novo overactive bladder symptoms that appear after surgery.Methods:This is a prospective randomized controlled study performed in the Urology and Gynecology Departments,Kasr Al Ainy Hospital,Cairo University,Cairo,Egypt.Two hundred and ten postmenopausal females presenting during the period between January 2017 and November 2020 with stress urinary incontinence were included in the study.Patients were divided into two groups,105 patients in Group A(treatment group)and 105 patients in Group B(control group).Patients in Group A underwent transvaginal TVT-O followed by local vaginal estrogen treatment for 6 months,while patients in Group B underwent transvaginal TVT-O only.The study included any postmenopausal female with urodynamic stress urinary incontinence.All patients had to fulfill a 3-day bladder diary,overactive bladder symptoms score,urine analysis,urodynamic study,and post-voiding residual urine measurement by abdominal ultrasound preoperatively and at 3-month and 6-month follow-ups.Results:At 6-month follow-up,daytime frequency was reduced to 8%in Group A(increased to 21%in Group B)with a statistically significant difference between both groups(p=0.009).At 6-month follow-up,nocturia was 8%in Group A(11%in Group B)with no statistically significant difference between both groups(p=0.469).There was a statistically significant difference between both groups as regards to urinary urgency at 6-month follow-up(p=0.024).There was a statistically significant difference in postoperative wound healing events as regards to cure,hyperemia,gapping,and wound infection 1 week after intervention between both groups(p=0.008).No local or systemic side-effects were reported from local estrogen use.Conclusion:Local vaginal estrogen treatment given to postmenopausal patients after midurethral sling procedures can reduce the symptoms of daytime frequency and urinary urgency.Long-term follow-up is needed.Samer Mahmoud Morsy Dalia Farouk Sara Hassan Ahmed Yehia Abdelaziz Hussein Aly Hussein 2024Asian Journal of Urology2024,11,1:0
12Colorectal cancer in Arab world:A systematic review显示文摘BACKGROUND The incidence of colorectal cancer(CRC)is increasing among young individuals in the Arab world as well as in other regions of the world.AIM To explore the incidence and prevalence of CRC in the Arab world.METHODS The PubMed,Scopus,Web of Science,EBSCO and Wiley databases were searched to retrieve relevant articles irrespective of the language or the publication year.The search terms were('colon OR rectum OR sigmoid OR rectal OR colonic OR colorectal')AND('cancer OR malignancy OR malignant OR neoplasm')AND('Jordan'OR'United Arab Emirates'OR'Bahrain'OR'Tunisia'OR'Algeria'OR'Djibouti'OR'Saudi Arabia'OR'Sudan'OR'Syria'OR'Somalia'OR'Iraq'OR'Oman'OR'Palestine'OR'Qatar'OR'Comoros'OR'Kuwait'OR'Lebanon'OR'Libya'OR'Egypt'OR'Morocco'OR'Mauritania'OR'Yemen').Reviews,metaanalyses,and articles containing nonoriginal data were excluded.Retrieved articles were screened,and relevant data were extracted.Descriptive statistics were used for data analysis.RESULTS Nine studies were included.Five of the studies provided information regarding the prevalence of CRC.The prevalence of CRC was 0.72% in Saudi Arabia and 0.78% in the United Arab Emirate,while in Egypt,it ranged from 0.4% to 14%.Four studies showed information regarding the incidence.The annual incidence rate of CRC in Qatar was 7.5/100000/year.In Egypt,the crude incidence rate(CIR)in males was 3.1 for colon cancer and 1 for rectal cancer,while in females,it was 2.3 for colon cancer and 0.8 for rectal cancer.The age-standardized rate for CRC incidence in 2003 was 36.90 for males,26.50 for females,and 30.49 for both sexes in Saudi Arabia.In 2016,the CIRs in Saudi Arabia were 3.6 and 2.1 in females for colon cancer and rectal cancer,respectively,while in males,it was 3.3 and 2.8 for colon cancer and rectal cancer,respectively.One study in Egypt revealed that 25% of CRC cases occurred among individuals younger than 40 years old.CONCLUSION There is a considerable prevalence of CRC in some Arab countries.More studies are needed to explore the incidence and prevalence of CRC in the rest of the Arab world.Nahed A Makhlouf Muhammad Abdel-Gawad Aya M Mahros Sameh A Lashen Mariam Zaghloul Ahmed Eliwa Eman E Elshemy Zainab Ali-Eldin Doaa Abdeltawab Fathiya El-Raey Dalia Omran Marwa Khalaf Nancy Fanous Ahmed Shawkat Abdelmohsen Ahmed Abu-Elfatth Mohamed Abdelghani Mahmoud Farouk Mohamed Abdelaziz Mohamed Alboraie 2021World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2021,13,11:0
