Adoption of precision agriculture technologies in India and in some developing countries:Scope, present status and strategies显示文摘Rapid socio-economic changes in some developing countries, including India, are creating new scopes for application of precision agriculture (PA). The implications of dramatic shifts for economic development, urbanization and energy consumption in some developing countries are immense. High-tech nature of traditional PA technologies developed in advanced countries created a real challenge for engineers to search suitable PA technologies for developing countries. It is expected that application of balanced soft and hard PA technologies based on the need of specific socio-economic condition of a country will make PA suitable for developing countries also. ‘Soft' PA depends mainly on visual observation of crop and soil and management decision based on experience and intuition, rather than on statistical and scientific analysis. ‘Hard' PA utilizes all modern technologies such as GPS, RS, and VRT. Three components, namely, ‘single PA technology', ‘PA technology package' (for the user to select one or combination) and ‘integrated PA technology', have been identified as a part of adoption strategies of PA in the developing countries. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to find out the scope, the present status and the strategies for adoption of PA in India and in some developing countries. Application of PA in cash crop, plantation crop, etc. has been discussed. Application of some medium and low-tech PA tools such as chlorophyll meter and leaf colour chart. in small farms has been included. This exhaustive review of the present status of PA in India and in some developing countries is expected to help to find out the adoption trend and direction of future research. Detailed strategy for the adoption of PA in India has also been proposed. | Pinaki Mondal Manisha Basu | 2009 | Progress in Natural Science:Materials International2009,19,6: | 14
Potential antibacterial activity of berberine against multi drug resistant enterovirulent Escherichia coli isolated from yaks(Poephagus grunniens) with haemorrhagic diarrhoea显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the antimicrobial efficacy of berberine,a plant alkaloid. Methods:Five multi-drug resistant(MDR) STEC/EPEC and five MDR ETEC isolates from yaks with haemorrhagic diarrhoea were selected for the study.Antibacterial activity of berberine was evaluated by broth dilution and disc diffusion methods. The binding kinetics of berberine to DNA and protein was also enumerated. Results:For both categories of enterovirulent Escherichia coli(E.roli) isolates, berberine displayed the antibaclerial effect in a dose dependent manner. The MIC50 of berberine chloride for STEC/EPEC isolates varied from 2.07μM to 3.6μM with a mean of(2.95±0.33)μM where as for ETEC strains it varied from 1.75 to 1.96μM with a mean of(1.87±0.03)μM. Berberine bind more tightly with double helix DNA with Bmax and Kd of(24.68±2.62) and(357.8±57.8),respectively.Berberine reacted with protein in comparatively loose manner with Bmax and Kd of(18.9±3.83) and <286.2±113.6),respectively.Conclusions:The results indicate clearly that berberine may serve as a good antibacterial against multi drug resistant E.coli. | Samiran Bandyopadhyay Pabitra H Patra Achintya Mahanti Dipak K Mondal Premanshu Dandapat Subhasis Bandyopadhyay Indranil Samanta Chandan Lodh Asit K Bera Debasish Bhattacharyya Mihir Sarkar Kishore K Baruah | 2013 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2013,6,4: | 11
Cavernous hemangioma of adult pancreas: A case report and literature review显示文摘Pancreatic hemangioma is a rare type of benign vascular tumor.Low clinical suspicion and inability of current cross sectional imaging techniques to differentiate it from other pancreatic lesions, contribute to the difficulty in making the correct diagnosis.Without a definitive diagnosis, and due to concern for malignancy,in many instances, surgery is performed. We report a case of pancreas cavernous hemangioma in an 18-yearold female. The patient presented with three-month history of epigastric pain.Physical examination and routine blood tests were normal.Abdominal Computed Tomography scan revealed a 5 cm × 6 cm complex nonenhancing cystic mass in the head of pancreas.Magnetic resonance imaging, endoscopic ultrasonography(EUS) and EUS guided fine needle aspiration cytology were non-diagnostic.Because of uncontrolled symptoms, the patient underwent surgical resection.Histopathology and Immunohistochemical staining confirmed the diagnosis of cavernous hemangioma of pancreas. | Utpal Mondal Nichole Henkes David Henkes Laura Rosenkranz | 2015 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,33: | 7
A Novel Multi-agent Formation Control Law With Collision Avoidance显示文摘In this paper a stable formation control law that simultaneously ensures collision avoidance has been proposed. It is assumed that the communication graph is undirected and connected. The proposed formation control law is a combination of the consensus term and the collision avoidance term(CAT).The first order consensus term is derived for the proposed model, while ensuring the Lyapunov stability. The consensus term creates and maintains the desired formation shape, while the CAT avoids the collision.During the collision avoidance, the potential function based CAT makes the agents repel from each other. This unrestricted repelling magnitude cannot ensure the graph connectivity at the time of collision avoidance.Hence we have proposed a formation control law, which ensures this connectivity even during the collision avoidance. This is achieved by the proposed novel adaptive potential function. The potential function adapts itself, with the online tuning of the critical variable associated with it.The tuning has been done based on the lower bound of the critical variable, which is derived from the proposed connectivity property. The efficacy of the proposed scheme has been validated using simulations done based on formations of six and thirty-two agents respectively. | Arindam Mondal Laxmidhar Behera Soumya Ranjan Sahoo Anupam Shukla | 2017 | IEEE/CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica2017,4,3: | 7
Design and analysis of high birefringence and nonlinearity with small confinement loss photonic crystal fiber显示文摘High birefringence with low confinement loss photonic crystal fiber (PCF) has significant advantages in the field of sensing, dispersion compensation devices, nonlinear applications, and polarization filter. In this report, two different models of PCFs are presented and compared. Both the models contain five air holes rings with combination of circular and elliptical air holes arrangement. Moreover, the elliptical shaped air holes polarization and the third ring air holes rotational angle are varied. To examine different guiding characteristics, finite element method (FEM) with perfectly matched layer (PML) absorbing boundary condition is applied from 1.2 to 1.8 |im wavelength range. High birefringence, low confinement loss, high nonlinearity, and moderate disper-sion values are successfully achieved in both the PCFs models. Numeric analysis shows that model-1 gives higher birefringence (2.75 ×10^-2) and negative dispersion (-540.67 ps/(nm ·km)) at 1.55 |im wavelength. However, model-2 gives more small confinement loss than model-1 at the same wavelength. In addition, the proposed design demonstrates the variation of rotation angle has great impact to enhance guiding properties especially the birefringence. | Rekha SAHA Md.Mahbub HOSSAIN Md. | 7 | Isothermal Grain Growth of Austenite in Hypoeutectoid and Hypereutectoid Plain Carbon Steels显示文摘Grain growth kinetics of austenite in a hypoeutectoid steel(containing carbon of 0.35%)at 920 ℃ and in a hypereutectoid steel(containing carbon of 1%)at 980 ℃ for holding time ranging from 1 h to 6 h was investigated. The hypoeutectoid steel exhibited normal grain growth without solute drag hindrance with a time exponent(0.51)close to the theoretical value(0.5).However,the grain growth of austenite in the hypereutectoid steel held up to 3 h was extremely slow, characterizing by a low value of time exponent(0.08).Thereafter,a breakaway occurred and the grain growth in the hypereutectoid steel held from 3 h to 6 h progressed normally with a time exponent(0.52)close to the theoretical value(0.5). | Joydeep Maity Dipak Kumar Mondal | 2010 | Journal of Iron and Steel Research(International)2010,17,7: | 5
A homeopathic nosode, Hepatitis C 30 demonstrates anticancer effect against liver cancer cells in vitro by modulating telomerase and topoisomerase Ⅱ activities as also by promoting apoptosis via intrinsic mitochondrial pathway显示文摘OBJECTIVE: Homeopathic nosodes have seldom been scientifically validated for their anticancer effects. This study was conducted to examine if a recently developed hepatitis C nosode has demonstrable anticancer potential in cancer cells in vitro.METHODS: Anticancer effects of Hepatitis C 30C(Hep C 30), if any, were initially tested on three cancer cell lines, HepG2(liver cancer), MCF-7(breast cancer) and A549(lung cancer) and one normal liver cell line WRL-68 cells and subsequently a more thorough study using further scientific protocols was undertaken on HepG2 cells(against WRL-68 cells as the normal control) as HepG2 cells showed better anticancer response than the other two. Three doses, one at 50% lethal dose(LD_(50)) and the other two below LD_(50), were used on HepG2 cells subsequently. Protocols like apoptosis induction and its possible signaling mechanism were deployed using immunoblots of relevant signal proteins and confocal microscopy, with particular reference to telomerase and topoisomerase Ⅱ(Top Ⅱ) activities, two strong cancer biomarkers for their direct relationship with divisional activities of cells and DNAs. RESULTS: Hep C 30 induced apoptosis, caused distorted cell morphology typical of apoptotic cells, increased reactive oxygen species generation and produced increased DNA nicks. Further it enhanced pro-apototic signal proteins like Bax, cytochrome c and inhibited anti-apoptotic signal proteins, Bcl-2, cytochrome c and caspase-3, changed mitochondrial membrane potential and caused externalization of phosphatidylserine. The drug also decreased expression of two cancer biomarkers, Top Ⅱ and telomerase, consistent with its anticancer effect. CONCLUSION: Hep C 30 has demonstrable anticancer effects against liver cancer cells in vitro. | Jesmin Mondal Jayeeta Das Rajesh Shah Anisur Rahman Khuda-Bukhsh | 2016 | Journal of Integrative Medicine2016,14,3: | 5
Multi-item EPQ model with learning effect on imperfect production over fuzzy-random planning horizon显示文摘Uncertainty is certain in the world of uncertainty. This study revisits an economic production quantity(EPQ)model with shortages for stock-dependent demand of the items with reworking and disposing of the imperfect ones over a random planning horizon under the joint effect of inflation and time value of money, where the expected time length is imprecise in nature.Transmission of learning effect has been incorporated to reduce the defective production. The total expected profit over the random planning horizon is maximized subject to the imprecise space constraint. The possibility, necessity and credibility measures have been introduced to defuzzify the model. The simulation-based genetic algorithm is used to make decision for the above EPQ model in different measures of uncertainty. The model is illustrated through an example.Sensitivity analysis shows the impacts of different parameters on the objective function in the model. | Amalesh Kumar Manna Barun Das Jayanta Kumar Dey Shyamal Kumar Mondal | 2017 | Journal of Management Analytics2017,4,1: | 5
An inventory model under development cost-dependent imperfect production and reliability-dependent demand显示文摘This paper considers a model that deals with an imperfect production process where both perfect and imperfect quality items are produced. Here, demand depends on selling price and reliability of the product. Each manufacturing company expects to produce perfect quality items. But due to the long-run process, several kinds of problem such as labor, machinery, and technology arise. As a result, the manufacturing system becomes out-of-control state and consequently produces both perfect and imperfect quality items.Perfect items are ready to sell but imperfect items are reworked at a cost to become perfect.Reworking cost, reliability of the product and reliability parameter of the manufacturing system can be improved by introducing the development cost and also by improving the quality of the raw material of the production system.Under such circumstances,a profit function has been developed to find the optimum values of reliability parameter of the manufacturing system, reliability of the product and duration of production such that a manufacturer gets a maximum profit. Finally, the model has been illustrated with some numerical examples exploring the sensitivity analysis with respect to some parameters. | Barun Khara Jayanta Kumar Dey Shyamal Kumar Mondal | 2017 | Journal of Management Analytics2017,4,3: | 4
Critical review of bone health, fracture risk and management of bone fragility in diabetes mellitus显示文摘The risk of fracture is increased in both type 1 diabetes mellitus(T1DM)and type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).However,in contrast to the former, patients with T2DM usually possess higher bone mineral density. Thus, there is a considerable difference in the pathophysiological basis of poor bone health between the two types of diabetes.Impaired bone strength due to poor bone microarchitecture and low bone turnover along with increased risk of fall are among the major factors behind elevated fracture risk. Moreover, some antidiabetic medications further enhance the fragility of the bone.On the other hand, antiosteoporosis medications can affect the glucose homeostasis in these patients. It is also difficult to predict the fracture risk in these patients because conventional tools such as bone mineral density and Fracture Risk Assessment Tool score assessment can underestimate the risk.Evidence-based recommendations for risk evaluation and management of poor bone health in diabetes are sparse in the literature. With the advancement in imaging technology, newer modalities are available to evaluate the bone quality and risk assessment in patients with diabetes. The purpose of this review is to explore the patho-physiology behind poor bone health in diabetic patients.Approach to the fracture risk evaluation in both T1DM and T2DM as well as the pragmatic use and efficacy of the available treatment options have been discussed in depth. | Rajan Palui Subhodip Pramanik Sunetra Mondal Sayantan Ray | 2021 | World Journal of Diabetes2021,12,6: | 4

Growth performance, and enteric and manure greenhouse gas emissions from Murrah calves fed diets with different forage to concentrate ratios显示文摘The present study investigated the effects of different dietary forage to concentrate ratios on animal performance, and enteric and manure greenhouse gas emissions in growing calves.Fifteen male Murrah calves(153.5 ± 18.17 kg; 6 to 12 months) were randomly assigned to 3 dietary treatments and fed corn fodder, wheat straw and concentrate in 3 different proportions: 20:60:20(C20); 20:40:40(C40) and 10:30:60(C60), for a period of 120 days.Increasing dietary concentrate proportion had no significant(P > 0.05) effect on dry matter intake(DMI) but increased crude protein(CP) and total digestible nutrient intake(P < 0.05).Average daily gain and feed conversion efficiency were significantly higher(P < 0.05)for C60 compared with C20 and for C40, these did not differ with C20 and C60(P > 0.05).The apparent digestibility of dry matter, organic matter and CP were higher(P < 0.05), but acid detergent fiber digestibility was lower(P < 0.05) for C60 compared with C20 whereas, ether extract and neutral detergent fiber digestibilities were not affected(P > 0.05).Daily methane(CH_4) emission(g/d), CH_4 energy loss(MJ/d) and CH_4 yield(CH_4 g/kg organic matter intake [OMI], CH_4 g/kg digestible OMI, and CH_4% of metabolizable energy intake) were significantly higher for C20 compared with C60(P < 0.05).Methane yield as g/kg DMI although lower for C60 compared with C20 but the difference was not significant(P > 0.05).Manure CH_4(g/kg DMI) and nitrous oxide(N_2O mg/kg nitrogen) emissions were not affected(P > 0.05), but N_2O emission on mg/kg DM basis was significantly higher(P < 0.05) from the manure of calves fed C60 than that for C20.Thus, increasing dietary concentrate proportion improved animal performance, and reduced enteric CH_4 emission(g/day) without any significant effect on manure N_2O(mg/kg nitrogen) and CH_4 emissions. | Vinu M.Nampoothiri Madhu Mohini Bilal A.Malla Goutam Mondal Sujata PANDita | 2018 | Animal Nutrition2018,,2: | 4
Future changes in rainfall, temperature and reference evapotranspiration in the central India by least square support vector machine显示文摘Climate change affects the environment and natural resources immensely.Rainfall, temperature and evapotranspiration are major parameters of climate affecting changes in the environment.Evapotranspiration plays a key role in crop production and water balance of a region, one of the major parameters affected by climate change. The reference evapotranspiration or ETo is a calculated parameter used in this research. In the present study, changes in the future rainfall, minimum and maximum temperature, and ETo have been shown by downscaling the HadCM3(Hadley Centre Coupled Model version 3) model data. The selected study area is located in a part of the Narmada river basin area in Madhya Pradesh in central India. The downscaled outputs of projected rainfall,ET_0 and temperatures have been shown for the 21 st century with the HADCM3 data of A2 scenario by the Least Square Support Vector Machine(LS-SVM)model.The efficiency of the LS-SVM model was measured by different statistical methods. The selected predictors show considerable correlation with the rainfall and temperature and the application of this model has been done in a basin area which is an agriculture based region and is sensitive to the change of rainfall and temperature. Results showed an increase in the future rainfall, temperatures and ETo.The temperature increase is projected in the high rise of minimum temperature in winter time and the highest increase in maximum temperature is projected in the pre-monsoon season or from March to May.Highest increase is projected in the 2080 s in 2081-2091 and 2091-2099 in maximum temperature and 2091-2099 in minimum temperature in all the stations.Winter maximum temperature has been observed to have increased in the future.High rainfall is also observed with higher ETo in some decades. Two peaks of the increase are observed in ET_0 in the April-May and in the October.Variation in these parameters due to climate change might have an impact on the future water resource of the study area, which is mainly an agricultural based region, and will help in proper planning and management. | Sananda Kundu Deepak Khare Arun Mondal | 2017 | Geoscience Frontiers2017,8,3: | 4

| 19 | Adaptive integral higher order sliding mode controller for uncertain systems显示文摘This paper proposes an adaptive integral higher order sliding mode (HOSM) controller for uncertain systems. Instead of a regular control input, the derivative of the control input is used in the proposed control law. The discontinuous sign function in the controller is made to act on the time derivative of the control input. The actual control signal obtained by integrating the derivative control signal is smooth and chattering free. The adaptive tuning law used in the proposed controller eliminates the need of prior knowledge about the upper bound of the system uncertainties. Stability and robustness of the proposed controller are proved by using the classical Lyapunov criterion.
