Evidence for UHP metamor-phism of eclogites from the Altun Mountains显示文摘Ultrahigh pressure (UHP) metamorphism refers to metamorphism that has occurred at pressures for the stability of coesite. The polycrystalline quartz inclusions showing the characteristic texture within garnets of eclogites indicates the pre-existence of coesites under the peak meta-morphic condition. The unusual exsolution textures in om-pacites and apatites, and the pressure estimations of phengite-bearing eclogites have been taken to provide further proof of eclogite formation under the UHP conditions. Combined with the fact that coesites have been observed in country rocks of eclogites in North Qaidam Mountains, another UHP metamorphic belt cut by the large-scale strike-slip fault in the Altun-North Qaidam area of China is confirmed. | Jianxin Zhang Jingsui Yang Zhiqin Xu Fancong Meng Haibing Li Rendeng Shi | 2002 | Chinese Science Bulletin2002,47,9: | 33
Lawsonite-bearing eclogites in the north Qilian and north Altyn Tagh:Evidence for cold subduction of oceanic crust显示文摘Lawsonite-bearing eclogites are recog-nized respectively in the north Qilian (NQL) and north Altyn Tagh (NAT), based on petrography and mineral chemistry. Lawsonite coexists with omphacite and phengite as inclusions in garnet, indicating ec-logite-facies metamorphism. Peak metamorphic con-ditions for equilibrium lawsonite-omphacite-phengite- garnet peak assemblages are estimated to be 2.1―2.4 GPa and 420―500℃, which is in the stability field of lawsonite eclogite-facies. A low geotherm of 6―8℃/km is referred, which is in consistent with a cold subduction. The occurrences of lawsonite-bearing eclogites in both NQL and NAT provide further evi-dence that the NAT HP/LT metamorphic belt is pos-sibly the northwestward extension of the NQL HP/LT metamorphic belt offset by the Altyn Tagh left-lateral slip fault. The NQL and NAT lawsonite-bearing ec-logites are formed by subduction of oceanic crust before collision of the Alashan and Qilian blocks in early Paleozoic. | ZHANG Jianxin MENG Fancong | 2006 | Chinese Science Bulletin2006,51,10: | 29
Deep carbon cycles constrained by a large-scale mantle Mg isotope anomaly in eastern China显示文摘Although deep carbon recycling plays an important role in the atmospheric CO_2 budget and climate changes through geological time, the precise mechanisms remain poorly understood.Since recycled sedimentary carbonate through plate subduction is the main light-δ^(26)Mg reservoir within deep-Earth,Mg isotope variation in mantle-derived melts provides a novel perspective when investigating deep carbon cycling. Here,we show that the Late Cretaceous and Cenozoic continental basalts from 13 regions covering the whole of eastern China have low δ^(26)Mg isotopic compositions, while the Early Cretaceous basalts from the same area and the island arc basalts from circum-Paciic subduction zones have mantle-like or heavy Mg isotopic characteristics.hus,a large-scale mantle low δ^(26)Mg anomaly in eastern China has been delineated, suggesting the contribution of sedimentary carbonates recycled into the upper mantle, but limited into the lower mantle.his large-scale spatial and temporal variation of Mg isotopes in the mantle places severe constraints on deep carbon recycling via oceanic subduction. | Shu-Guang Li Wei Yang Shah Ke Xunan Meng Hengci Tian Lijuan Xu Yongsheng He Jian Huang Xuan-Ce Wang Qunke Xia Weidong Sun Xiaoyong Yang Zhong-Yuan Ren Haiquan Wei Yongsheng Liu Fancong Meng Jun Yan | 2017 | National Science Review2017,4,1: | 23
Eclogitic metapelites in the western segment of the north Qaidam Mountains:Evidence on'in situ'relationship between eclogite and its country rock显示文摘In Yuka-Luofengpo area of the north Qaidam Mountains, eclogitic metapelites are recognized. The metapelites enclosed lenses of eclogites, and locally intercalated with eclogites. Their typical mineral assemblages are garnet + kyanite + chloritoid + phengite + quartz + rutile. Strong growth zoning is preserved in garnets of metapelites, and phengite contains up to 3.4 Si per formula units. The petrographic observations and textural relations testify to the following sequence of mineral assemblages connected to three metamorphic stage: Qtz. Applying THERMOCALC Program, Grt-Phe thermometer and Grt-Ky-Phe-Qtz barometry, P-T conditions for three metamorphic stages were obtained: P=1.07±0.31GPa, T=564±22°C (prograde stage); P=2.3-3.1GPa, T=615-700°C(peak stage); and P=1.22 ± 0.26GPa, T=581± 20°C (retrograde stage). A hairpin shape P-T path similar to that of adjacent eclogite is inferred. In combination with eclogitic mineral relics in marbles and orthogneisses enclosing eclogites, we thought that the relationship between eclogites and country rocks is 'in situ' rather than 'tectonic emplacement'. | ZHANG Jianxin MENG Fancong YANG Jingsui | 2004 | Science China Earth Sciences2004,47,12: | 20
Coesite in eclogite from the North Qaidam Mountains and its implications显示文摘Coesite provides direct evidence for ultrahigh pressure metamorphism. Although coesite has been found as inclusions in zircon in paragneiss of the north Qaidam Mountains, it has never been identified in eclogite. In this contribution, based on petrographic observations and in situ Raman microprobe spectroscopy, coesite was identified as inclusions in garnet of eclogite from the Aercituoshan, Dulan UHP metamorphic unit, north Qaidam Mountains. Coesite is partly replaced by quartz, showing a pali-sade texture. This is the first report on coesite in eclogite from the north Qaidam Mountains, and is also supported by garnet-omphacite-phengite geothermobarometry (2.7―3.25 GPa, 670―730℃). Coesite and its pseudomorphs have not been found in eclogites and associated rocks of other units of the north Qaidam Mountains. Further studies are required to confirm if all metamorphic units in the north Qaidam Mountains underwent the ultrahigh-pressure metamorphism. | ZHANG JianXin MENG FanCong LI JinPing MATTINSON C.G. | 2009 | Chinese Science Bulletin2009,54,6: | 14
Zircon SHRIMP dating of granite from Qaidamshan,NW China显示文摘Zircon SHRIMP dating from Qaidamshan granite shows that the granite age is 446 Ma, similar to that of eclogite in the UHP belt. We think that both granite and eclogite may be formed at different stages during tectonic evolution of this area. Together with other studies we suggested that the collision of ocean and continent plates may occur at the early Caledonian in this area, forming the eclogite, and the collision of continent and continent plates at the late Caledonian, forming the Qaidanishan granite with the zircon SHRIMP age of 446 Ma. | WU Cailai YANG Jingsui J.Wooden J.G.Liou LI Haibing SHI Rending MENG Fancong H.Persing A.Meibom | 2002 | Chinese Science Bulletin2002,47,5: | 13
Genesis of the mega-crystal zircons in the dunite veins of North Qaidam Mountains, northwestern China显示文摘A megacrystal zircon occurs in serpentinized dunite veins from North Qaidam, northwestern China. It is red-brown and 3―4 mm long and 2 mm wide in size. BSE imaging shows the presence of micro-grains (30―50 μm) of zircon between olivine and serpentine, part of them gathering into clusters (100―300 μm). Thus we infer that these zircon crystals were precipitated from hydrothermal fluid. Inclusions of baddeleyite (white) in the shape of isolated island locally occur in the large zircon (grey), implying that the former formed earlier than the latter. The mirco-baddeleyite (50―100 μm) aggregate consists of baddeleyite (3―5 μm) and olivine (<5 μm), indicating the zircon formation through interaction between baddeleyite and silica-bearing fluid. Therefore, we consider a genetic link between the formation of the large zircon and the serpentinization of dunite. SHIRIMP U-Pb dating of the large zircon gave two groups of concordant ages at 414 ± 13 Ma and 371 ± 9 Ma, respectively. This might reflect two episodes of zircon growth in response to two episodes of fluid action. | MENG FanCong ZHANG JianXin | 2009 | Chinese Science Bulletin2009,54,24: | 4
