| 1 | Milk selenium content and speciation in response to supranutritional selenium yeast supplementation in cows显示文摘The effects of selenium(Se)yeast supplementation on performance, blood biochemical and antioxidant parameters, and milk Se content and speciation were evaluated.Thirty-six mid-lactation Holstein dairy cows were randomly assigned to 1 of 3 treatments:1)control(basal diet containing Se at 0.11 mg/kg DM),2)basal diet+0.5 mg supplemental Se/kg DM(SY-0.5),and 3)basal diet+5 mg supplemental Se/kg DM(SY-5).Selenium was supplemented as Se yeast. The trial consisted of a 1-week pretrial period and an 8-week experimental period.Milk somatic cell score decreased with SY-5 supplementation(P<0.05),but other performance parameters were not affected(P>0.05).The serum Se concentration increased with the increasing levels of Se yeast supplementation(P<0.05),however,blood biochemical parameters showed few treatment effects. The antioxidant capacity of dairy cows was improved with Se yeast supplementation reflected in increased serum glutathione peroxidase activity(P<0.05)and total antioxidant capacity(P=0.08),and decreased malondialdehyde concentration(P<0.05).Milk total Se concentration increased with Se dose(P<0.05).Also,the selenomethionine concentration increased with Se dose from 13.0±0.7 pg/kg in control to 33.1±2.1 pg/kg in SY-0.5 and 530.4±17.5 pg/kg in SY-5 cows(P<0.05).Similarly,selenocystine concentration increased from 15.6±0.9μg/kg in control and 18.9±1.1 pg/kg in SY-0.5 to 22.2±1.5 pg/kg in SY-5 cows(P<0.05).In conclusion,Se yeast is a good organic Se source to produce Se-enriched cow milk with increased Se species including selenomethionine and selenocystine. The results can provide useful information on milk Se species when a high dose Se yeast was supplemented in the cow diet. | Lingling Sun Gentao Liu Dongmei Xu Zhaohai Wu Lu Ma Sanz-Fernandez M.Victoria Lance H.Baumgard Dengpan Bu | 2021 | Animal Nutrition2021,,4: | 6 |
| 2 | Plant geranylgeranyl diphosphate synthases: every (gene) family has a story显示文摘Plant isoprenoids(also known as terpenes or terpenoids)are a wide family of primary and secondary metabolites with multiple functions. In particular, most photosynthesis-related isoprenoids(including carotenoids and chlorophylls)as well as diterpenes and polyterpenes derive from geranylgeranyl diphosphate(GGPP)produced by GGPP synthase(GGPPS)enzymes in several cell compartments.Plant genomes typically harbor multiple copies of differentially expressed genes encoding GGPPS-like pro-teins.While sequence comparisons allow to identify potential GGPPS candidates, experimental evidence is required to ascertain their enzymatic activity and biologi cal function.Actually, functional analyses of the full set of potential GGPPS paralogs are only available for a handful of plant species. Here we review our current knowledge on the GGPPS families of the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana and the crop species rice(0ryza sativa),pepper(Capsicum annuum)and tomato(Solanum lycopersicum). The results indicate that a major determinant of the biological role of particular GGPPS paralogs is the expression profile of the corresponding genes even though specific interactions with other proteins(including GGPP-consuming enzymes)might also contribute to subfunctionalization. In some species, however,a single GGPPS isoforms appears to be responsible for the production of most if not all GGPP required for cell functions.Deciphering the mechanisms regulating GGPPS activity in particular cell compartments, tissues, organs and plant species will be very useful for future metabolic engineering approaches aimed to manipulate the accumulation of particular GGPP-derived products of interest without negatively impacting the levels of other isoprenoids required to sustain essential cell functions. | M.Victoria Barja Manuel Rodriguez-Concepcion | 2021 | aBIOTECH2021,2,3: | 4 |

| 8 | A Tutorial on Federated Learning from Theory to Practice:Foundations,Software Frameworks,Exemplary Use Cases, and Selected Trends显示文摘When data privacy is imposed as a necessity,Federated learning(FL)emerges as a relevant artificial intelligence field for developing machine learning(ML)models in a distributed and decentralized environment.FL allows ML models to be trained on local devices without any need for centralized data transfer, thereby reducing both the exposure of sensitive data and the possibility of data interception by malicious third parties. This paradigm has gained momentum in the last few years, spurred by the plethora of real-world applications that have leveraged its ability to improve the efficiency of distributed learning and to accommodate numerous participants with their data sources.By virtue of FL,models can be learned from all such distributed data sources while preserving data privacy. The aim of this paper is to provide a practical tutorial on FL,including a short methodology and a systematic analysis of existing software frameworks.Furthermore, our tutorial provides exemplary cases of study from three complementary perspectives:i)Foundations of FL,describing the main components of FL,from key elements to FL categories;ii)Implementation guidelines and exemplary cases of study,by systematically examining the functionalities provided by existing software frameworks for FL deployment, devising a methodology to design a FL scenario, and providing exemplary cases of study with source code for different ML approaches;and iii)Trends, shortly reviewing a non-exhaustive list of research directions that are under active investigation in the current FL landscape. The ultimate purpose of this work is to establish itself as a referential work for researchers, developers, and data scientists willing to explore the capabilities of FL in practical applications. | M.Victoria Luzón Nuria Rodríguez-Barroso Alberto Argente-Garrido Daniel Jiménez-López Jose M.Moyano Javier Del Ser Weiping Ding Francisco Herrera | 2024 | IEEE/CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica2024,11,4: | 0 |
| 9 | Molecular mechanisms implicated in SARS-CoV-2 liver tropism显示文摘The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2).Hepatic involvement is common in SARS-CoV-2-infected individuals. It is currently accepted that the direct and indirect hepatic effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection play a significant role in COVID-19.In individuals with pre-existing infectious and non-infectious liver disease, who are at a remarkably higher risk of developing severe COVID-19 and death, this pathology is most medically relevant. This review emphasizes the current pathways regarded as contributing to the gastrointestinal and hepatic ailments linked to COVID-19-infected patients due to an imbalanced interaction among the liver, systemic inflammation, disrupted coagulation, and the lung. | Jorge Quarleri M.Victoria Delpino | 2022 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2022,28,48: | 0 |
