| 1 | Spectral computed tomography in advanced gastric cancer: Can iodine concentration non-invasively assess angiogenesis?显示文摘AIM To investigate the correlation of iodine concentration(IC) generated by spectral computed tomography(CT) with micro-vessel density(MVD) and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) expression in patients with advanced gastric carcinoma(GC).METHODS Thirty-four advanced GC patients underwent abdominal enhanced CT in the gemstone spectral imaging mode. The IC of the primary lesion in the arterial phase(AP) and venous phase(VP) were measured, and were then normalized against that in the aorta to provide the normalized IC(nI C). MVD and VEGF were detected by immunohistochemical assays, using CD34 and VEGF-A antibodies, respectively. Correlations of nI C with MVD, VEGF, and clinical-pathological features were analyzed.RESULTS Both nI Cs correlated linearly with MVD and were higher in the primary lesion site than in the normal control site, but were not correlated with VEGF expression. After stratification by clinical-pathological subtypes, nI C-AP showed a statistically significant correlation with MVD, particularly in the group with tumors at stage T4, without nodular involvement, of a mixed Lauren type, where the tumor was located at the antrum site, and occurred in female individuals. nI C-VP showed a positive correlation with MVD in the group with the tumor at stage T4 and above, had nodular involvement, was poorly differentiated, was located at the pylorus site, of a mixed and diffused Lauren subtype, and occurred in male individuals. nI C-AP and nI C-VP showed significant differences in terms of histological differentiation and Lauren subtype.CONCLUSION The IC detected by spectral CT correlated with the MVD. n IC-AP and n IC-VP can reflect angiogenesis in different pathological subgroups of advanced GC. | Xiao-Hua Chen Ke Ren Pan Liang Yaru Chai Kui-Sheng Chen Jian-Bo Gao | 2017 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2017,23,9: | 47 |

| 3 | Metabolic engineering and flux analysis of Corynebacterium glutamicum for L-serine production显示文摘L-Serine plays a critical role as a building block for cell growth, and thus it is difficult to achieve the direct fermentation of L-serine from glucose. In this study, Corynebacterium glutamicum ATCC 13032 was engineered de novo by blocking and attenuating the conversion of L-serine to pyruvate and glycine, releasing the feedback inhibition by L-serine to 3-phosphoglycerate dehydrogenase (PGDH), in combination with the co-expression of 3-phosphoglycerate kinase (PGK) and feedback-resistant PGDH (PGDHr). The resulting strain, SER-8, exhibited a lower specific growth rate and significant differences in L-serine levels from Phase I to Phase V as determined for fed-batch fermentation. The intracellular L-serine pool reached (14.22±1.41) μmol gCDM 1, which was higher than glycine pool, contrary to fermentation with the wild-type strain. Furthermore, metabolic flux analysis demonstrated that the over-expression of PGK directed the flux of the pentose phosphate pathway (PPP) towards the glycolysis pathway (EMP), and the expression of PGDHr improved the L-serine biosynthesis pathway. In addition, the flux from L-serine to glycine dropped by 24%, indicating that the deletion of the activator GlyR resulted in down-regulation of serine hydroxymethyltransferase (SHMT) expression. | 5 | Elevated IL-37 levels in the plasma of patients with severe coronary arterycalcification显示文摘Background Coronary artery calcification (CAC) is a predictor of cardiovascular events and plaque burden and is closely associatedwith chronic inflammation. Intedeukin (IL)-37 is a newly discovered member of the IL-1 family and is considered an anti-inflammatorycytokine. Our recent study on mice indicated that IL-37 could attenuate atherosclerosis and vascular calcification, which suggests that IL-37could be associated with the development of atherosclerosis and related diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate if IL-37 plays arole in the progression of CAC in patients. Methods Two hundred participants with suspected cardiovascular disease were recruited. Thelevels of plasma IL-37, osteoprotegerin (OPG), hypersensitive C-reactive protein (hsCRP) together with other biochemical parameters weremeasured, and a coronary calcium assessment was carried out by multi-detector row CT. A score of 〈 10 AU (Agatston units) denotes anabsence of CAC, a score of 11-100 AU denotes mild CAC, 101-400 denotes moderate CAC, and 〉 400 AU denotes severe CAC. ResultsOur initial data showed that there were no apparent differences in plasma IL-37 levels among patients with or without mild or moderate CAC.However, IL-37 levels were significantly increased in patients with severe CAC (P 〈 0.001). Similar results were observed for plasma OPGand hsCRP levels. When IL-37 levels in patients with severe calcification were compared with that in all of the other non-severe CAC groups,it became apparent that there was a significant positive correlation between IL-37 level and severe CAC (r = 0.360, P 〈 0.001; OR = 1.033)using Spearrnan's correlation and binary logistic regression analysis. | 8 | H2 strain attenuated live hepatitis A vaccines:protective efficacy in a hepatitis A outbreak显示文摘AIM To investigate the protective efficacy ofH2 strain attenuated live hepatitis A vaccines(H2-strain vaccines)in hepatitis A(HA)outbreaks.METHODS With the permission of theirparents,5551 pre-school and grade 1-3 primaryschool children were inoculated with 1 dose(106.5TCID50)of H2-strain vaccines in anonrandomized,controlled trial conducted inFucheng County,Hebei Province in May 1997.Another 6485 children in the same grades andcompatible in gender and age were enrolled ascontrols.Epidemiological and serological surveywas conducted to evaluate the protectiveefficacy of the vaccines.ELISA was used todetect serum IgM anti-HAV.RESULTS HA outbreak started in early May1998,peaked in the middle of the same month,and lasted about 80 days.Overall 302 HA caseswere found,192(53.58%)were 5-9 years old.One vaccinee and 25 control cases were found tohave hepatitis A,which account for 0.28%(1/356)and 5.92%(25/422)of all vaccinees andcontrols in the 14 villages,respectively.The protective efficacy of vaccines was 95.27%(95% Cl:85.83%-104.72%).In subjects testedfor anti-HAV IgM from 13 villages,1(0.40%)overt and 11(4.06%)asymptomatic HAV caseswere found in 271 vaccinees,but 21(6.69%)ofovert and asymptomatic ones were found in 314controls.CONCLUSION H2 strain vaccines were excellent in preventing overt hepatitis A, but not so effective in preventing asymptomatic hepatitis A virus infection. | 9 | LC-MS/MS analysis and pharmacokinetic study on five bioactive constituents of Tanreqing injection in rats显示文摘Tanreqing injection(TRQ), a well-known traditional Chinese medicine formula, is commonly used to treat respiratory diseases. In the present study, a rapid, selective, and sensitive liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry(LC-MS/MS) method was developed and validated to simultaneously determinate the plasma contents of 5 major constituents of TRQ, including chlorogenic acid(CHA), caffeic acid(CFA), baicalin(BA), ursodeoxycholic acid(UDCA) and chenodeoxycholic acid(CDCA) in rats after intravenous administration of TRQ. Chromatographic separation was performed on an Agilent Zorbax SB-C_(18) column(3.5 μm, 100 mm × 2.1 mm), with acetonitrile and 0.1% aqueous formic acid as mobile phase at a flow rate of 0.3 m L·min^(^(-1)). The calibration curves were linear over the ranges of 27.0–13 333.0 ng·m L^(-1) for CFA, 30.0–14 933.0 ng·m L^(-1) for CHA, 50.0–50 333.0 ng·m L^(-1) for BA, 550.0–55 000.0 ng·m L^(-1) for UDCA, and 480.0–48 000.0 ng·m L^(-1) for CDCA, respectively. Intra- and inter-day precisions(relative standard deviations, RSDs) were from 3.11% to 14.08%. The extraction recoveries were greater than 71% and accuracy(relative recovery) was from 89% to 137% for all analytes, except endogenous bile acids. | 13 | Geomorphic features of Quaternary glaciation in the Taniantaweng Mountain, on the southeastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau显示文摘We present geomorphological evidence for multiple glacial fluctuations during the Quaternary in the Taniantaweng Mountain, which is situated at the transition zone of the southeastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. To reconstruct the history of glacial evolution during the Quaternary Glaciation, we present a ~13000 km^2 geomorphologic map(1:440,000) for the Quaternary glaciations, as well as three electron spin resonance(ESR) ages and three optically stimulated luminescence(OSL) ages from the landforms. By integrating these with ages from previous studies, four major glacial advances are identified during marine oxygen isotope stages(MIS) 6, 3, 2 and 1. This glacial chronology is in reasonable agreement with existing glacial chronologies from other parts of the Hengduan Mountains and surrounding mountains. Glaciers had extended to the Yuqu River during the glacial maximum advance(MIS 6), but became successively more restricted from MIS 3 to MIS 1. | 15 | Identification of Gesture Based on Combination of Raw sEMG and sEMG Envelope Using Supervised Learning and Univariate Feature Selection显示文摘In this paper,we propose a novel study for gesture identification using surface electromyography(sEMG)signal,and the raw sEMG signal and the sEMG envelope signal are collected by the sensor at the same time.An efficient method of gesture identification based on the combination of two signals using supervised learning and univariate feature selection is implemented.In previous research techniques,researchers tend to use the raw sEMG signal and extract several constant features for classification,which inevitably causes a result of ignoring individual differences.Our experiment shows that both the optimal feature set and redundant feature set are not same for different subjects.In order to address this problem,we extract all the common features from two signals,up to 76 features,most of which has been established as the common EMG-based gesture index.In addition,extracting too many features in an application can reduce operational efficiency,so we apply for feature selection to get the optimal feature set and decrease the number of extracting feature.As a result,the combination of two signals is better than using a single signal.The feature selection can be used to select optimal feature set from all features to achieve the best classification performance for each subject.The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves the performance with the highest accuracy of 95%for identifying up to nine gestures only using two sensors.Finally,we develop a real-time intelligent sEMG-driven bionic hand system by using the proposed method. | Shili Liang Yansheng Wu Jianfei Chen Ling Zhang Peipei Chen Zongqian Chai Chunlei Cao | 2019 | Journal of Bionic Engineering2019,16,4: | 4 |

We analyze statistic frequency of communication across the autonomous domain. We calculate the autonomous domain correlations for controller instances using acquired statistical information. We cache network views to highly correlated controller instances. Distributed controllers are capable of considering both the average response time and overall storage. | 19 | The Malaysian cataract surgery registry:incidence and risk factors of postoperative infectious endophthalmitis over a 7-year period显示文摘AIM:To report the incidence,risk factors and visual outcomes for postoperative endophthalmitis(POE)based on 7-year data from the Malaysian Ministry of Health Cataract Surgery Registry(MOH CSR).METHODS:Data was collected from the web-based MOH CSR.All consecutive cataract surgery patients from 1st June 2008 to 31st December 2014 were identified.Exclusion criteria were traumatic cataract or previous ocular surgery.Demographic data,ocular co-morbidities,intraoperative details and postoperative visual acuity(VA)at final ophthalmological follow-up were noted.All eyes were taken for analysis.Subjects with POE were compared against subjects with no POE for risk factor assessment using multiple logistic regressions.RESULTS:A total of 163 503 subjects were screened.The incidence of POE was 0.08%(131/163 503).Demographic POE risk factors included male gender(OR:2.121,95%CI:1.464-3.015)and renal disease(OR:2.867,95%CI:1.503-5.467).POE risk increased with secondary causes of cataract(OR:3.562,95%CI:1.740-7.288),uveitis(OR:11.663,95%CI:4.292-31.693)and diabetic retinopathy(OR:1.720,95%CI:1.078-2.744).Intraoperative factors reducing POE were shorter surgical time(OR:2.114,95%CI:1.473-3.032),topical or intracameral anaesthesia(OR:1.823,95%CI:1.278-2.602),posterior chamber intraocular lens(PCIOL;OR:4.992,95%CI:2.689-9.266)and foldable IOL(OR:2.276,95%CI:1.498-3.457).POE risk increased with posterior capsule rupture(OR:3.773,95%CI:1.915-7.432)and vitreous loss(OR:3.907,95%CI:1.720-8.873).Postoperative VA of 6/12 or better was achieved in 15.27%(20/131)subjects with POE.CONCLUSION:This study concurs with other studies regarding POE risk factors.Further strengthening of MOH CSR data collection process will enable deeper analysis and optimization of POE treatment. | Yong Zheng Wai Fiona Lee Min Chew Mohamad Aziz Salowi Chai Liang Ang Yong Yuin Chong Tassha Hilda Adnan Pik-Pin Goh | 2018 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2018,11,10: | 3 |
| 20 | A small scale expression screen identifies tissue specific markers in the Dugesia japonica strain Pek-1显示文摘Freshwater planaria has tremendous capacity to reform the missing part of the body and therefore is considered as one of the most important model organism for regeneration study. At present, Schmidtea mediterranea and Dugesia japonica are the two major species utilized for laboratory manipulations. Dugesia japonica flatworms are widely distributed in the Far East including Cherry Valley region in the northwest area of Beijing, China. We reported here the establishment of an asexual Dugesia japonica strain Pek1, as a suitable system for regeneration study. Using morphological, karyotypical as well as phylogenetic analyses, we confirmed that these flatworms indeed belonged to Dugesia japonica. We went on to show that the commonly used in situ probes and immunohistochemistry reagents and protocols were applicable to the Pek1 strain. Using this strain, we carried out small scale analysis on EST, RNAi and gene expression. We identified 193 unique EST sequences and 65 of them had not been reported in planarian. By RNAi analysis, we showed that 48 genes, when downregulated individually, had no effect on regeneration. Furthermore, we identified 3 groups of tissue specific expressing genes that were useful for cell lineage analysis.
