| 1 | GRAIN BOUNDARY REORGANIZATION IN INTERMETALLIC COMPOUNDS NiAl AND FeAl显示文摘Computer simulation of grain boundaries(GB) was carried out in Fe and ordered alloys NiAl and FeAl with B2 superlattice. In this work symmetrical tilt grain boundaries =5[100](012) and = 5[100](013) are studied. The atomic interaction has been described by Morse empirical central- force potentials.The atomic structure and energy of GB were investigated by means of construction of -surface using full atomic relaxation by method of molecular statics. It is shown that = 5 tilt GBs in Fe, Ni3Al and NiAl have several steady states. Comparison of our results with geometrical model of coincidence site lattice (CSL) was carried out. | 2 | Effect of phacoemulsification on intraocular pressure in patients with primary open angle glaucoma and pseudoexfoliation glaucoma显示文摘AIM: To compare the effect of phacoemulsification on intraocular pressure(IOP) in patients with primary open angle glaucoma(POAG) and pseudoexfoliation glaucoma(PXG). METHODS: A retrospective comparative case series conducted at the Glaucoma Department at the Association to Prevent Blindness in Mexico. The study enrolled consecutive patients having phacoemulsification with intraocular lens(IOL) implantation and a diagnosis of POAG or PXG. Data about IOP values and number of glaucoma medications used was collected at baseline, 1, 3, 6 and 12 mo postoperatively. RESULTS: The study enrolled 88 patients(88 eyes). After phacoemulsification, there was a statistically significant reduction in IOP values and glaucoma medications use compared to baseline in both POAG and PXG patients(P<0.001). In the POAG group, a 20% decrease in IOP values was evidenced, and a 56.5% reduction in the number of medications used at the one-year follow-up. The PXG group showed a 20.39%, and a 34.46% decrease in IOP and number of medications used, respectively. A significant difference in the mean ΔIOP(postoperative changes in IOP) was evidenced between groups(P=0.005). The reduction of the postsurgical IOP mean values in both groups, the POAG group showed a greater reduction in IOP values compared to the PXG group.CONCLUSION: In both types of glaucoma, phacoemulsification cataract surgery can result in a significant IOP reduction(20%) over a 12 mo follow-up period. Homophase systems look like ordered binary alloy and include antiphase domain boundaries of various orientation. Clear components border on ordered alloy in heterophase systems and two processes take place simultaneously here-disordering of binary alloy and solution in ordered phase of clear component. | 5 | Doping effect of rare-earth(lanthanum, neodymium and gadolinium) ions on structural,optical, dielectric and magnetic properties of copper nanoferrites显示文摘Copper and rare earth-doped(RE = La, Gd, Nd) CuFe_(1.85)RE_(0.15)O_4 nano ferrites were prepared using the so nochemical method. The effective doping of rare-earth(La^(3+), Nd^(3+), Gd^(3+)) ions with copper nanoferrites was confirmed by X-ray diffraction. The tetrahedral and octahedral sites of the nano ferrites were identified through the Fourier transform infrared spectra. The doping of rare-earth elements enhances the optical bandgap energy of the nanoferrites that are observed through Ultraviolet-DRS spectra. The oxidation state of the elements Cu 2 p, La 3 d, Nd 3 d, Gd 3 d, Fe 2 p and O 1 s was analyzed. Scanning electron microscopy images indicate a spherical morphology with agglomeration to some elongate. The values of dielectric constant and conductivity decrease considerably due to doping rare-earth ions in copper nanoferrites. Low saturation magnetization and high coercivity values of rare earth-doped copper nanoferrites are observed from the typical hysteresis curves. | R. Rajesh Kanna K. | 7 | Current trends of liver cirrhosis in Mexico: Similitudes and differences with other world regions显示文摘AIM To investigate the main current etiologies of cirrhosis in Mexico.METHODS We performed a cross-sectional retrospective multicenter study that included eight hospitals in different areas of Mexico. These hospitals provide health care to people of diverse social classes. The inclusion criteria were a histological, clinical, biochemical, endoscopic, or imaging diagnosis of liver cirrhosis. Data were obtained during a 5-year period(January 2012-December 2017). RESULTS A total of 1210 patients were included. The mean age was 62.5 years(SD = 12.1), and the percentages of men and women were similar(52.0% vs 48.0%). The most frequent causes of liver cirrhosis were hepatitis C virus(HCV)(36.2%), alcoholic liver disease(ALD)(31.2%), and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(23.2%), and the least frequent were hepatitis B virus(1.1%), autoimmune disorders(7.3%), and other conditions(1.0%).CONCLUSION HCV and ALD are the most frequent causes of cirrhosis in Mexico. However, we note that non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) as an etiology of cirrhosis increased by 100% compared with the rate noted previously. | 8 | Implementing a vector surveillanceresponse system for chagas disease control:a 4-year field trial in Nicaragua显示文摘Background:Chagas disease is one of the neglected tropical diseases(NTDs).International goals for its control involve elimination of vector-borne transmission.Central American countries face challenges in establishing sustainable vector control programmes,since the main vector,Triatoma dimidiata,cannot be eliminated.In 2012,the Ministry of Health in Nicaragua started a field test of a vector surveillance-response system to control domestic vector infestation.This paper reports the main findings from this pilot study.Methods:This study was carried out from 2012 to 2015 in the Municipality of Totogalpa.The Japan International Cooperation Agency provided technical cooperation in designing and monitoring the surveillance-response system until 2014.This system involved 1)vector reports by householders to health facilities,2)data analysis and planning of responses at the municipal health centre and 3)house visits or insecticide spraying by health personnel as a response.We registered all vector reports and responses in a digital database.The collected data were used to describe and analyse the system performance in terms of amount of vector reports as well as rates and timeliness of responses.Results:During the study period,T.dimidiata was reported 396 times.Spatiotemporal analysis identified some high-risk clusters.All houses reported to be infested were visited by health personnel in 2013 and this response rate dropped to 39%in 2015.Rates of insecticide spraying rose above 80%in 2013 but no spraying was carried out in the following 2 years.The timeliness of house visits improved significantly after the responsibility was transferred from a vector control technician to primary health care staff.Conclusions:We argue that the proposed vector surveillance-response system is workable within the resourceconstrained health system in Nicaragua.Integration to the primary health care services was a key to improve the system performance.Continual efforts are necessary to keep adapting the surveillance-response system to the dynamic health systems.We also discuss that the goal of eliminating vector-borne transmission remains unachievable.This paper provides lessons not only for Chagas disease control in Central America,but also for control efforts for other NTDs that need a sustainable surveillance-response system to support elimination. | Kota Yoshioka Doribel Tercero Byron Perez Jiro Nakamura Lenin Perez | 2017 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2017,6,1: | 2 |
