| 1 | Crosstalk of the Wnt/b-catenin pathway with other pathways in cancer cells显示文摘Many cancers have similar aberrations in various signaling cascades with crucial roles in cellular proliferation,differentiation,and morphogenesis.Dysregulation of signal cascades that play integral roles during early cellular development is well known to be a central feature of many malignancies.One such signaling cascade is the Wnt/b-catenin pathway,which has a profound effect on stem cell proliferation,migration,and differentiation.This pathway is dysregulated in numerous cell types,underscoring its global oncogenetic potential.This review highlights regulators and downstream effectors of this receptor cascade and addresses the increasingly apparent crosstalk of Wnt with other tumorigenic signaling pathways.As understanding of the genetic and epigenetic changes unique to these malignancies increases,identifying the regulatory mechanisms unique to the Wnt/b-catenin pathway and similarly aberrant receptor pathways will be imperative. | Saint-Aaron L.Morris Suyun Huang | 2016 | Genes & Diseases2016,3,1: | 12 |

| 11 | Implementing physically active learning:Future directions for research,policy,and practice显示文摘Purpose'. To identify co-produced multi-stakeholder perspectives important for successful widespread physically active learning (PAL) adoptionand implementation.Methods: A total of 35 stakeholders (policymakers ≪ = 9;commercial education sector, ≪ = 8;teachers, w = 3;researchers, w = 15) attended adesign thinking PAL workshop. Participants formed 5 multi-disciplinary groups with at least 1 representative from each stakeholder group. Eachgroup, facilitated by a researcher, undertook 2 tasks: (1) using Post-it Notes, the following question was answered: within the school day, whatare the opportunities for learning combined with movement? and (2) structured as a washing-line task, the following question was answered:how can we establish PAL as the norm? All discussions were audio-recorded and transcribed. Inductive analyses were conducted by 4 authors.After the analyses were complete, the main themes and subthemes were assigned to 4 predetermined categories: (1) PAL design and implementation,(2) priorities for practice, (3) priorities for policy, and (4) priorities for research.Results'. The following were the main themes for PAL implementation: opportunities for PAL within the school day, delivery environments,learning approaches, and the intensity of PAL. The main themes for the priorities for practice included teacher confidence and competence,resources to support delivery, and community of practice. The main themes for the policy for priorities included self-governance, the Office forStandards in Education, Children's Services, and Skill, policy investment in initial teacher training, and curriculum reform. The main themes forthe research priorities included establishing a strong evidence base, school-based PAL implementation, and a whole-systems approach.Conclusion-. The present study is the first to identify PAL implementation factors using a combined multi-stakeholder perspective. | 12 | Long-term landscape changes in a subalpine spruce-fir forest in central Utah, USA显示文摘Background:In Western North America,increasing wildfire and outbreaks of native bark beetles have been mediated by warming climate conditions.Bioclimatic models forecast the loss of key high elevation species throughout the region.This study uses retrospective vegetation and fire history data to reconstruct the drivers of past disturbance and environmental change.Understanding the relationship among climate,antecedent disturbances,and the legacy effects of settlement-era logging can help identify the patterns and processes that create landscapes susceptible to bark beetle epidemics.Methods:Our analysis uses data from lake sediment cores,stand inventories,and historical records.Sediment cores were dated with radiometric techniques(^(14)C and ^(210)Pb/^(137)Cs) and subsampled for pollen and charcoal to maximize the temporal resolution during the historical period(1800 CE to present) and to provide environmental baseline data(last 10,500 years).Pollen data for spruce were calibrated to carbon biomass(C t/ha) using standard allometric equations and a transfer function.Charcoal samples were analyzed with statistical models to facilitate peak detection and determine fire recurrence intervals.Results:The Wasatch Plateau has been dominated by Engelmann spruce forests for the last ~10,500 years,with subalpine fir becoming more prominent since 6000 years ago.This landscape has experienced a dynamic fire regime,where burning events are more frequent and of higher magnitude during the last 3000 years.Two important disturbances have impacted Engelmann spruce in the historical period:1) high-grade logging during the late 19^(th) century;and(2) a high severity spruce beetle outbreak in the late 20^(th) century that killed >90%of mature spruce(>10 cm dbh).Conclusions:Our study shows that spruce-dominated forests in this region are resilient to a range of climate and disturbance regimes.Several lines of evidence suggest that 19^(th) century logging promoted a legacy of simplified stand structure and composition such that,when climate became favorable for accelerated beetle population growth,the result was a landscape-scale spruce beetle outbreak.The lasting impacts of settlement-era landscape history from the Wasatch Plateau,UT may be relevant for other areas of western North America and Europe where sufficient host carrying capacity is important in managing for resistance and resilience to outbreaks. | Jesse L.Morris R.Justin DeRose Andrea R.Brunelle | 2016 | Forest Ecosystems2016,3,2: | 0 |
