| 1 | Variability of cell proliferation in the proximal and distal colon of normal rats and rats with dimethylhydrazine induced carcinogenesis显示文摘AIM:To investigate the patterns of cell proliferation in proximal and distal colons in normal rats and rats with1,2-dimethylhydrazine(DMH)induced carcinogenesis using the thymidine analogue bromodeoxyuridine.METHODS:Colonic crypt cell proliferation was immunohistochemically detected using the anti-bromodeoxyuridine Bu20a monoclonal antibody.RESULTS:Marked regional differences were found in both groups.Total labelling index(LI)and proliferative zone size in both normal(8.65±0.34vs7.2±0.45,27.74±1.07vs16.75±1.45)andDMH groups(13.13±0.46vs11.55±0.45,39.60±1.32vs35.52±1.58)were significantly higher in distal than in proximal colon(P<0.05).although the number of cells per proxmal crypt was greater(31.45±0.20vs34.45±0.39,42.68±0.53vs49.09±0.65,P<0.001).Crypt length,total LT and proliferative zone size all increased in both proximal and distal regions of DMH rats compared to normal controls(P<0.0001).In DMH-treated rat colon a shift of labelled cells to higher crypt cell positions was demonstrated distally whist a bi-directional shift was evident proximally(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:Our results show that changes in cell proliferation patterns,as assessed by bromodeoxyuridine uptake,can act as a reliable intermediate marker of colonic cancer formation.Observed differences between proliferation patterns in distal and proximal colon may be associated with the higher incidence of tumors in t he distal colon. | Kate E Williamson Brian J Rowlands | 2002 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2002，8，5： | 12 |
| 2 | Metabolic syndrome:A review of the role of vitamin D in mediating susceptibility and outcome显示文摘Despite the well-recognised role of vitamin D in a wide range of physiological processes,hypovitaminosis is common worldwide(prevalence 30%-50%) presumably arising from inadequate exposure to ultraviolet radiation and insufficient consumption.While generally not at the very low levels associated with rickets,hypovitaminosis D has been implicated in various very different,pathophysiological processes.These include putative effects on the pathogenesis of neoplastic change,inflammatory and demyelinating conditions,cardiovascular disease(CVD) and diabetes.This review focuses on the association between hypovitaminosis D and the metabolic syndrome as well as its component characteristics which are central obesity,glucose homeostasis,insulin resistance,hypertension and atherogenic dyslipidaemia.We also consider the effects of hypovitaminosis D on outcomes associated with the metabolic syndrome such as CVD,diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.We structure this review into 3 distinct sections; the metabolic syndrome,vitamin D biochemistry and the putative association between hypovitaminosis D,the metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular risk. | Richard C Strange Kate E Shipman Sudarshan Ramachandran | 2015 | World Journal of Diabetes2015，6，7： | 5 |
| 3 | Sperm retrieval success and testicular histopathology in idiopathic nonobstructive azoospermia显示文摘Prior studies have investigated sperm retrieval rates in men with non obstructive azoospermia(NOA)secondary to specific etiologies,yet most cases of NOA are idiopathic.We compared sperm retrieval rates and testicular histopathology in idiopathic NOA(iNOA)and nonidiopathic NOA(niNOA).We performed a retrospective review of men with NOA who underwent microdissection testicular sperm extraction(microTESE)between 2000 and 2016.Men with no history of malignancy or cryptorchidism and negative genetic evaluation were considered idiopathic.Multivariable regression determined the association between idiopathic etiology and primary outcomes of sperm retrieval and active spermatogenesis on histopathology.Among 224 men,86(38.4%)were idiopathic,75(33.5%)were nonidiopathic,and 63(28.1%)did not undergo genetic testing.Median age and serum testosterone were higher among iNOA or no testing versus niNOA.Median follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH)was lower among iNOA or no testing versus niNOA.A higher proportion of iNOA or no testing versus niNOA had a clinical varicocele.Sperm retrieval rates were similar between iNOA,niNOA,and no testing(41.8%vs 48.0%vs 55.6%,respectively;P=0.255).Active spermatogenesis was seen in a higher proportion of iNOA or no testing versus niNOA(31.4%and 27.0%vs 16.0%,P=0.073).On multivariable analysis,iNOA was not associated with sperm retrieval or spermatogenesis(P=0.430 and P=0.078,respectively).Rates of sperm retrieval and spermatogenesis on testis pathology were similar in men with iNOA and niNOA.These data will be useful to clinicians in preoperative counseling for men with NOA and negative genetic evaluation. | Arighno Das Joshua A Halpern Annie L Darves-Bornoz Mehul Patel James Wren Mary Kate Keeter Robert E Brannigan | 2020 | Asian Journal of Andrology2020，22，6： | 3 |
