| 1 | MicroRNAs in neuroblastoma tumorigenesis, therapy resistance, and disease evolution显示文摘Neuroblastoma(NB)deriving from neural crest cells is the most common extra-cranial solid cancer at infancy.NB originates within the peripheral sympathetic ganglia in adrenal medulla and along the midline of the body.Clinically,NB exhibits significant heterogeneity stretching from spontaneous regression to rapid progression to therapy resistance.MicroRNAs(miRNAs,miRs)are small(19-22 nt in length)non-coding RNAs that regulate human gene expression at the post-transcriptional level and are known to regulate cellular signaling, growth, differentiation, death, stemness, and maintenance.Consequently, the function of miRs in tumorigenesis, progression and resistance is of utmost importance for the understanding of dysfunctional cellular pathways that lead to disease evolution, therapy resistance, and poor clinical outcomes.Over the last two decades, much attention has been devoted to understanding the functional roles of miRs in NB biology. This review focuses on highlighting the important implications of miRs within the context of NB disease progression, particularly miRs’influences on NB disease evolution and therapy resistance. In this review,we discuss the functions of both the“oncomiRs”and“tumor suppressor miRs”in NB progression/therapy resistance. These are the critical components to be considered during the development of novel miR-based therapeutic strategies to counter therapy resistance. | Natarajan Aravindan Karthikeyan Subramanian Dinesh Babu Somasundaram Terence S.Herman Sheeja Aravindan | 2019 | Cancer Drug Resistance2019,2,4: | 3 |
| 2 | Antibiotic resistant Esherichia coli strains from seafood and its susceptibility to seaweed extracts显示文摘Objective:To determine the prevalence and antibiotic resistance of Escherichia coli(E. coli),in seafood obtained from Cuddalore and Parangipettai fish landing centres. Also,to identify the susceptibility of E.coli against predominant seaweeds red alga Kappaphycus alvarezii(K.alvarezii) and brown alga Padina boergessenii(P.boergessenii) extracts as sulfated polysaccharides and polyphenols respectively. Methods:A total of 48 samples(Two stations Cuddalore and Parangipettai,Tamil Nadu,India).Sampling area are fish landing centre where fishes caught from sea and estuary, seafood processing plants(packing and ice packed fishes) and local fish markets(fish samples). After isolation totally 80 strains were analyzed for its antimicrobial resistance and sensitivity against commercially 10 antibiotics. The ampicillin resistant E.coli CE21 was identified through molecular techniques as I6S rDNA sequencing. Two seaweeds K.alvarezii and P.boergessenii were screened lor antibacterial activity against 12 antibiotic resistant E.coli strains. Results:Totally 48 swabbed samples from two different fish handling area were characterized for total bacterial and E.coli count.Mostly, the E.coli strains were isolated from fish local market and seafood processing plants before and after packaging process. In that maximum 56.25%strains were resistant to ampicillin and the minimum 2.5%strains were resistant to chloramphenicol. Therefore, the E.coli CE21 was identified through molecular techniques E.coli(GenBank accession number GU065251),The MIC value for polyphenol extract was slightly less than sulfated polysaccharides.E.coli strain isolated from Parangipettai was considerably increased MIC value that Cuddalore. Conclusions: The polyphenol and sulfated polysaccharides showed promising inhibitory response against all antimicrobial resistant E.coli strains and in particular the inhibitory response of ampicillin resistant E.coli. | Subramanian Kumaran Balaraman Deivasiganiani Kumarappan Alagappan Mannikam Sakthivel Rajamani Karthikeyan | 2010 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,12: | 1 |

| 6 | Efficacy of gabapentin for low back pain at a tertiary hospital: A prospective observational study显示文摘Objective:To assess the efficacy of gabapentin in the treatment of low back pain patients. Methods:This prospective observational study was conducted over 6 months to assess the efficacy of gabapentin in patients suffering from low back pain.Past medical history, pain severity by Visual Analogue scale(VAS)and sleep quality by Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PQSI)were collected.VAS scores and PQSI scores before and after gabapentin treatment were compared, and gabapentin satisfaction post treatment were recorded. Results:This study included 100 low back pain patients with 65 males and 35 females, and the mean age was(39.0±10.5)years.The commonest presentation was non-radiating low back pain(40%).The mean VAS score and the mean PQSI score in the study before treatment were 7.70±1.91 and 10.95±5.02,respectively.After treatment with gabapentin, the mean VAS score and the mean PQSI score decreased to 2.75±1.79 and 4.90±2.20,respectively,and the differences before and after the treatment were significantly different(both P=0.001).Overall,62%of the patients were extremely satisfied with gabapentin because they reported no adverse drug reaction.Besides,31%of the patients were satisfied and 7%were strongly dissatisfied with the therapy. Conclusion:Gabapentin can improve sleep quality and reduce lower back pain as measured by the VAS and PQSI.The efficacy of this drug is relatively good, but further improvement is required. | Navaneetha Krishnan Subramanian VV.Ramesh Chandra Karthikeyan Elumalai Narahari N Palei Tiruveedi Kusuma Vadlamuri Venkata Prasad Yellanti Bala Venkata Bhargav Phani Mungara Yeshwanth Sai Pradeep Battula Anna Balaji | 2022 | Journal of Acute Disease2022,11,3: | 0 |
