| 1 | Metallothionein:An overview显示文摘Metallothioneins (MTs) were discovered in 1957 by Margoshes and Vallee and identified as low-molecular weight and sulphydryl rich proteins. It is not surprising that most mammalian tissues contain age related basal levels of MTs since they are involved in metalloregulatory processes that include cell growth and multiplication. In an effort to understand the biology of this intriguing tumor, various biomarkers such as oncogenes, p53 tumor suppressor gene, waf 1 protein, proliferating cell nuclear antigen, telomerase, microsatellite markers and cytogenetic changes have been examined. One biomarker which has recently shown to be expressed in various human tumors but still less reported in carcinoma is MT. | 3 | Investigation of hypoglycemic,hypolipidemic and antioxidant activities of aqueous extract of Terminalia paniculata bark in diabetic rats显示文摘Objective:To investigate the hypoglycemic,hypolipidemic and antioxidant activities of aqueous extract of Terminalia paniculata bark(AETPB) in streptozotocin(STZ)-mduced diabetic rats.Methods:Acute toxicity was studied in rats after the oral administration of AETPB to determine the dose to assess hypoglycemic activity.In rats,diabetes was induced by injection of STZ(60 mg/kg,i.p.) and diabetes was confirmed 72 h after induction,and then allowed for 14 days to stabilize blood glucose level.In diabetic rats,AETPB was orally given for 28 days and its effect on blood glucose and body weight was determined on a weekly basis.At the end of the experimental day,fasting blood sample was collected to estimate the haemoglobin(Hb),glycosylated haemoglobin(HbA1c),serum creatinine,urea,serum glutamate-pyruvate transaminase(SGPT),serum glutamate-oxaloacetate transaminase(SGOT) and insulin levels. The liver and kidney were collected to determine antioxidants levels in diabetic rats.Results: Oral administration of AETPB did not exhibit toxicity and death at a dose of 2000 mg/kg.AETPB treated diabetic rats significantly(P<0.001,P<0.01 and P<0.05) reduced elevated blood glucose, HbAlc,creatinine,urea,SGPT and SGOT levels when compared with diabetic control rats.The body weight,Hb,insulin and total protein levels were significantly(P<0.001,P<0.01 and P<0.05) increased in diabetic rats treated with AETPB compared to diabetic control rats.In diabetic rats, AETPB treatment significantly reversed abnormal status of antioxidants and lipid profile levels towards near normal levels compared to diabetic control rats.Conclusions:Present study results confirm that AETPB possesses significant hypoglycemic,hypolipidemic and antioxidant activities in diabetic condition. | Subramaniam Ramachandran Aiyalu Rajasekaran KT Manisenthilkumar | 2012 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,4: | 9 |

| 5 | Antidiabetic,antihyperlipidemic and antioxidant potential of methanol extract of Tectona grandis flowers in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats显示文摘Objective:To investigate antidiabetic,antihyperlipidemic and antioxidant activity of methanol extract of Tectona grandis(T.grandis) flowers(METGF) in streplozotocin(STZ) induced diabetic rats to supports its traditional use.Methods:Acute toxicity study of METGF was carried out in rat to determine its dose for the antidiabetic study.Oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT) was performed to evaluate METGF effect on elevated blood glucose level.Diabetes was induced in rats by administration of STZ(60 mg/kg,ip.) and it was confirmed 72 h after induction.METGF was orally given to the diabetic rats up to 28 days and blood glucose level were estimated each week.On 28 day of the experiment,diabetic rats were sacrificed after the blood collection for the biochemical parameters analysis and liver,kidney was collected to determine antioxidants levels.Results: In acute toxicity,METGF did not show toxicity and death up to a dose 2 000 mg/kg in rats. Administration of METGF 100 and 200 mg/kg significantly(P<0.001) reduced blood glucose levels in OGTT and STZ-induced diabetic rats.Both doses of METGF treatment significantly(P<0.001, P<0.01 and P<0.05) increased body weight,serum insulin,haemoglobin(Hb) and total protein levels in diabetic rats.Also,MEGTF treatment reduced elevated glycosylated haemoglobin(HbA1c) and other biochemical parameters levels significantly(P<0.001) in diabetic rats.Altered lipid profiles and antioxidants levels were reversed to near normal in diabetic rats treated with METGF. | 8 | 持续性红细胞生成素受体激活剂静脉给药在慢性肾脏病透析患者中纠正贫血的疗效、安全性和耐受性显示文摘目的评估持续性红细胞生成素受体激活剂(CERA)每2周1次静脉给药与红细胞生成素13(EPO-β)相比在慢性肾脏病(CKD)透析患者中纠正贫血的疗效和安全性。方法采用开放、随机、平行、阳性对照、多中心临床试验方法。正在接受血液透析或腹膜透析且8周内未接受红细胞生成刺激剂(ESA)治疗的CKD贫血成年患者,随机(1:1)接受CERA每2周1次静脉注射(CERA组,n=132例)或EPO-β每周3次静脉注射(EPO组,n=133例)持续治疗24周(包括16周纠正期和8周疗效评估期)。此后对达到目标血红蛋白(Hb)值(定义为首次给药后24周内在未输注红细胞的情况下,Hb≥110g/L且与基线值相比上升≥10g/L)的患者继续分别维持CERA或EPO-β治疗28周,以观察长期安全及耐受性。CERA的起始剂量为0.4μg/k。主要研究终点为前24周的Hb反应率及评估期(17-24周)Hb与基线值相比的变化。结果共计232例患者(87.5%)完成了前24周的治疗,198例患者(74.7%)完成了整个研究(52周)的治疗。CERA治疗组前24周的Hb反应率为87.12%[95%CI(80.2%-92.3%)]。根据其95%CI的下限高于60%(P〈0.01),认为CERA每2周1次静脉给药能有效纠正CKD贫血。符合方案(PP)人群中CERA组与EPO组评估期Hb相对基线变化的差异为-4.7g/L[95%CI(-7.38g/L-1.92g/L)]。根据其95%CI的下限大于预先设定的非劣效性界值-7.5g/L(P=0.0205),认为CERA纠正CKD贫血后维持Hb非劣效于EPO-β。在28周的延长期间两组的Hb水平均保持稳定。研究期间CERA组和EPO组的安全性结果相当,分别有50.0%及54.6%的患者报告了至少1件不良事件(AE),AE与研究人群的特征一致。结论在未接受ESA治疗的CKD透析患者中,每两周静脉注射1次CERA可有效纠正贫血,且纠正贫血后维持Hb非劣效于EPO-β治疗。CKD透析患者对于长期静脉注射给药CERA总体上耐受性良好。 | 钱家麒 陈楠 梅长林 刘文虎 侯凡凡 史伟 陈江华 陈香美 李文歌 顾勇 刘必成 丁小强 王莉 Philip KT LI 于凌博 田劲 | 2012 | 中华肾脏病杂志2012,28,11: | 3 |

| 11 | Response to strict and liberalized specific carbohydrate dietin pediatric Crohn's disease显示文摘AIM: To investigate the specific carbohydrate diet(SCD) as nutritional therapy for maintenance of remission in pediatric Crohn's disease(CD). METHODS: Retrospective chart review was conducted in 11 pediatric patients with CD who initiated the SCD as therapy at time of diagnosis or flare. Two groups defined as SCD simple(diet alone, antibiotics or 5-ASA) or SCD with immunomodulators(corticosteroids and/or stable thiopurine dosing) were followed for one year and compared on disease characteristics, laboratory values and anthropometrics.RESULTS: The mean age at start of the SCD was 11.8 ± 3.0 years(range 6.6-17.6 years) with five patients starting the SCD within 5 wk of diagnosis. Three patients maintained a strict SCD diet for the study period and the mean time for liberalization was 7.7 ± 4.0 mo(range 1-12) for the remaining patients. In both groups, hematocrit, albumin and ESR values improved while on strict SCD and appeared stable after liberalization(P-value 0.006, 0.002, 0.002 respectively). The majority of children gained in weight and height percentile while on strict SCD, with small loss in weight percentile documented with liberalization. CONCLUSION: Disease control may be attainable with the SCD in pediatric CD. | 14 | Antipyretic,anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties of nilavembu kudineer choornam:a classical preparation used in the treatment of chikungunya fever显示文摘Objective:To investigate the efficacy of ethanolic extract of nilavembu kudineer choornam (EENKC) in inflammation,pain and fever using animal models to support its actions.Methods: Acute toxicity study of EENKC was performed in mice to fix the effective dose.The antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity of EENKC was evaluated in brewer’s yeast induced pyrexia in rats,carrageenan-induced inflammation in rats and acetic-acid induced writhing in mice model.Results:Acute toxicity revealed that EENKC didn’t show death and toxic signs up to 2 000 mg/kg.In brewer’s yeast induced pyrexia and carrageenan-induced inflammation EENKC at the doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg inhibited fever and inflammation significantly(P<0.01 and<0.05) compared to control animals.In mice,the number of writhing induced by acetic-acid was significantly(P<0.01) reduced after treatment with both the dose of EENKC than control animals.
