2Outline of the Report on Cardiovascular Disease in China,2010显示文摘Major and profound changes have taken place in China over the past 30 years.Rapid socioeconomic progress has exerted a great impact on lifestyle,ranging from food,clothing,working and living conditions,and means of transportation to leisure activities and entertainment.At the same time,new health problems have emerged,and health services are facing new challenges.Presently,cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are among the top health problems of the Chinese people,and pose a serious challenge to all engaged in the prevention and control of these diseases.An epidemic of CVD in China is emerging as a result of lifestyle changes,urbanization and longevity.Both national policy decision-making and medical practice urgently need an authoritative report which comprehensively reflects the trends in the epidemic of CVD and current preventive measures.Since 2005,guided by the Bureau of Disease Prevention of the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China and the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases of China,nationwide experts in the fields of epidemiology,clinical medicine and health economics in the realms of CVD,cerebrovascular disease,diabetes and chronic kidney disease,completed the Report on Cardiovascular Diseases in China every year.The report aims to provide a timely review of the trend of the epidemic and to assess the progress of prevention and control of CVD.In addition,as the report is authoritative,representative and readable,it will become an information platform in the CVD field and an important reference book for government,academic institutes,medical organizations and clinical physicians.This publication is expected to play a positive role in the prevention and control of CVD in China.We present an abstract from the Report on Cardiovascular Diseases in China (2010),including trends in CVD,morbidity and mortality of major CVDs,up-to-date assessment of risk factors,as well as health resources for CVD,and a profile of medical expenditure,with the aim of providing evidence for decision-making in CVD prevention and control programs in China,and of delivering the most authoritative information on CVD prevention and control for all citizens.HUSheng Shou KONG Ling Zhi GAO Run Lin ZHU Man Lu WANG Wen WANG Yong Jun WU Zhao Su CHEN Wei Wei LIU Ming Bo For the editorial board 2012Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2012,25,3:93
3Long-term trend and abrupt events of the Holocene Asian monsoon inferred from a stalagmiteδ^(18)O record from Shennongjia in Central China显示文摘A high-resolution oxygen-isotope record from a thorium-uranium-dated stalagmite from Shanbao Cave at Shennongjia reflects variations in the amount of monsoon precipitation for the period from 11.5 to 2.1 ka (1 ka = 1000 cal aBP). Between 11.5 and 9.3 ka, a sharp decrease in δ18O indicates a rapid increase in monsoon precipitation. An interval of generally high monsoon precipitation is observed between 9.3 and 4.4 ka. An arid period has prevailed between 4.4 and 2.1 ka. The long-term trend of Shanbao record appears to follow summer insolation at 33°N latitude. An abrupt decrease in monsoon precipitation around 4.3 ka is synchronous with the collapse of Neolithic culture in central China. This abrupt change could have resulted from the amplifi- cation of the gradually decreased summer insolation by the positive vegetation-atmosphere-aerosol feed- back. The weakened Asian monsoon events were in concert with decreased Greenland temperature dur- ing the early Holocene, centered at 8.2, 8.6, 9.3, 10.2 and 11.0 ka. 8SDF-1/CXCR4 axis modulates bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell apoptosis, migration and cytokine secretion显示文摘Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)are considered as a promising cell source to treat the acute myocardial infarction.However,over 90%of the stem cells usually die in the first three days of transplantation.Survival potential,migration ability and paracrine capacity have been considered as the most important three factors for cell transplantation in the ischemic cardiac treatment.We hypothesized that stromal-derived factor-1(SDF-1)/CXCR4 axis plays a critical role in the regulation of these processes.In this study,apoptosis was induced by exposure of MSCs to H2O2 for 2 h.After re-oxygenation,the SDF-1 pretreated MSCs demonstrated a significant increase in survival and proliferation.SDF-1 pretreatment also enhanced the migration and increased the secretion of pro-survival and angiogenic cytokines including basic fibroblast growth factor and vascular endothelial growth factor.Western blot and RT-PCR demonstrated that SDF-1 pretreatment significantly activated the pro-survival Akt and Erk signaling pathways and up-regulated Bcl-2/Bax ratio.These protective effects were partially inhibited by AMD3100,an antagonist of CXCR4.We conclude that the SDF-1/CXCR4 axis is critical for MSC survival,migration and cytokine secretion.Xiaolei Liu Biyan Duan Zhaokang Cheng Xiaohua Jia Lina Mao Hao Fu Yongzhe Che Lailiang Ou Lin Liu Deling Kong 2011Protein & Cell2011,2,10:53
9Treatment Efficiencies of Constructed Wetlands for Eutrophic Landscape River Water显示文摘The efficiencies of two types of constructed wetlands for the treatment of low-concentration polluted eutrophic land- scape river water were studied in the western section of the Qingyuan River at the Minhang campus of Shanghai Jiaotong University.The first wetland was a single-stage system using gravel as a filtration medium,and the second was a three- stage system filled with combinations of gravel,zeolite,and fly ash.Results from parallel operations of the wetlands showed that the three-stage constructed wetland could remove organics,nitrogen, and phosphorus successfully.At the same time,it could also decrease ammoniacal odour in the effluent.Compared to the single-stage constructed wetland,it had better nutrient removal efficiencies with a higher removal of 19.37%-65.27% for total phosphorus (TP) and 21.56%- 62.94% for total nitrogen (TN),respectively,during the operation period of 14 weeks.In terms of removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD), turbidity,and blue-green algae,these two wetland systems had equivalent performances.It was also found that in the western section of the test river,in which the two constructed wetlands were located, the water quality was much better than that in the eastern and middle sections without constructed wetland because COD,TN, and TP were all in a relatively lower level and the eutrophication could be prevented completely in the western section.HE Sheng-Bing YAN Li KONG Hai-Nan LIU Zhi-Ming WU De-Yi HU Zhan-Bo 2007Pedosphere2007,17,4:50
10Transplantation of UC-MSCs on collagen scaffold activates follicles in dormant ovaries of POF patients with long history of infertility显示文摘Premature ovarian failure(POF) is a refractory disease for clinical treatment with the goal of restoring fertility. In this study,umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells on a collagen scaffold(collagen/UC-MSCs) can activate primordial follicles in vitro via phosphorylation of FOXO3 a and FOXO1. Transplantation of collagen/UC-MSCs to the ovaries of POF patients rescued overall ovarian function, evidenced by elevated estradiol concentrations, improved follicular development, and increased number of antral follicles. Successful clinical pregnancy was achieved in women with POF after transplantation of collagen/UC-MSCs or UC-MSCs. 13Why are social network transactions important? Evidence based on the concentration of key suppliers and customers in China显示文摘Based on a new institutional economy framework,this study examines the formation and economic consequences of social networks(guanxi)from the perspective of key suppliers and customers in China.Results show that commercial activities which depend on networks are determined by the institutional environment.For example,companies that have lower accumulated social capital(less trust among people)and are subject to more government invention depend more on social network transactions than on the market.In addition,this study shows that network transactions can provide benefits to firms,especially in weak institutional environments.Networks can reduce transaction costs by reducing information asymmetry,i.e.,increased network dependence is associated with lower credit costs and lower advertising and sales costs.Networks can also reduce the effect of industry shocks,especially negative shocks,by creating a bonding mechanism.This study contributes to our understanding of social networks in emerging markets by providing evidence on network transactions with key suppliers and customers and their influence on firms'accounting behavior.Xiang Kong 2011China Journal of Accounting Research2011,,3:46
14Anatomical and chemical characteristics associated with lodging resistance in wheat显示文摘Anatomical and chemical characteristics of stems affect lodging in wheat(Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars. Traits associated with lodging resistance, such as plant height, stem strength, culm wall thickness, pith diameter, and stem diameter, were extensively investigated in earlier studies. However, the solid stem trait was rarely considered. In this study, we measured a range of anatomical and chemical characteristics on solid and hollow stemmed wheat cultivars. Significant correlations were detected between resistance to lodging and several anatomical features, including width of mechanical tissue, weight of low internodes, and width of stem walls. Morphological features that gave the best indication of improved lodging resistance were increased stem width, width of mechanical tissue layer, and stem density. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that 99% of the variation in lodging resistance could be explained by the width of the mechanical tissue layer, suggesting that solid stemmed wheat has several anatomical features for increasing resistance to lodging. In addition, microsatellite markers GWM247 and GWM340 were linked to a single solid stem QTL on chromosome 3BL in a population derived from the cross Xinongshixin(solid stem)/Line 3159(hollow stem). 16Major complications after radiofrequency ablation for liver tumors:Analysis of 255 patients显示文摘AIM:To investigate the major complications after radiofrequency ablation(RFA) for the treatment of liver tumors and analyze possible risk factors that precipitate these complications.METHODS:From March 2001 to April 2008,255 patients with liver tumors(205 male,50 female;age range,18-89 years;mean age,56.0 years) who received RFA were enrolled in this study.Of these patients,212 had hepatocellular carcinoma,39 had metastatic liver tumors and four had cholangiocellular carcinoma.One hundred and forty eight patients had a single tumor,and 107 had multiple tumors.Maximum diameter of the tumors ranged 1.3-20 cm(mean,5.1 cm).All patients were treated with a cooled-tip perfusion electrode attached to a radiofrequency generator(Radionics,Burlington,MA,USA).RFA was performed via the percutaneous approach(n = 257),laparoscopy(n = 7),or open surgical treatment(n = 86).The major complications related to RFA were recorded.The resultant data were analyzed to determine risk factors associated these complications.RESULTS:Among the 255 patients,425 liver tumors were treated and 350 RFA sessions were performed.Thirty-seven(10%) major complications were observed which included 13 cases of liver failure,10 cases of hydrothorax requiring drainage,three casesof tumor seeding,one case of upper gastrointestinal bleeding,one case ofintrahepatic abscess,one case of bile duct injury,one case of cardiac arrest,and five cases of hyperglycemia.Seven patients had more than two complications.Liver failure was the most severe complication and was associated with the highest mortality.Eleven patients died due to worsening liver decompensation.Child-Pugh classification(P = 0.001) and choice of approach(P = 0.045) were related to post-treatment liver failure,whereas patient age,tumor size and number were not significant factors precipitating this complication.CONCLUSION:RFA can be accepted as a relatively safe procedure for the treatment of liver tumors.However,attention should be paid to possible complications even though the incidences of these complications are rare.Careful patient selection and the best approach choice(percutaneous,laparoscopy,or laparotomy) will help to minimize the incidence and morbidity rate of complications which occur after RFA.Wen-Tao Kong Wei-Wei Zhang Yu-Dong Qiu Tie Zhou Jun-Lan Qiu Wei Zhang Yi-Tao Ding 2009World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,21:35

18Double contrast-enhanced two-dimensional and three-dimensional ultrasonography for evaluation of gastric lesions显示文摘AIM:To investigate the value of two-dimensional(2D) and three-dimensional(3D) double contrast-enhanced ultrasonography(DCUS) imaging for evaluation of gastric lesions.METHODS:2D and 3D DCUS imaging with both oral and intravenous administrations of contrast agents was used to assess gastroscopiclly-confirmed gastric lesions in 46 patients with benign and malignant diseases.Initially,liquid-based ultrasound contrast agent(Xinzhang) was given orally at dose of 500-600 mL for conventional ultrasound examination of the gastric lesions,and then a microbubble-based contrast agent(SonoVue) was injected intravenously at dose of 1.2-2.4 mL in bolus fashion to assess the perfusion pattern of the lesions using contrast imaging modes.The parameters derived from time-intensity curves including the arrival time(AT),time to peak(TTP),peak intensity(PI) and enhanced intensity(EI) were measured on the 2D DCUS imaging.3D DCUS of the lesions was acquired to demonstrate the value of this imaging mode.RESULTS:There were 22 cases with benign lesions including chronic gastritis(n = 5),gastric ulcer(n = 9),gastric polyps(n = 3),gastric stromal tumors(n = 5),and 24 cases with malignant lesions including gastric cancer(n = 20),gastric cardia carcinoma(n = 3) and post-operative recurrent gastric cancer(n = 1) in the study.The oral contrast-enhanced ultrasonography(CEUS) imaging of the stomach clearly demonstrated the anatomy of the stomach and morphologic features of gastric lesions.With optimal scanning window and imaging display under oral CEUS,intravenous CEUS clearly showed the perfusion of gastric lesions with various characteristic manifestations.Both 2D and 3D DCUS images clearly demonstrated normal gastric wall as a three-layer structure,from the inside out,hyperechoic mucosa,hypoechoic muscularis and hyperechoic serosa,respectively.There were statistical significant differences of AT(8.68 ± 2.06 vs 10.43 ± 2.75,P = 0.017),PI(34.64 ± 6.63 vs 29.58 ± 8.22,P = 0.023) and EI(29.72 ± 6.69 vs 22.66 ± 7.01,P = 0.001) between malignant lesions and normal gastric wall.However,no differences of AT,PI and EI between benign lesions and normal gastric wall tissue were found.3D DCUS could intuitively display morphological features and vascularities of the lesions with multiplanar and volume views.3D DCUS imaging provided comprehensive information complementary to 2D imaging.The crater or wellhead appearances and feeding vessels as well as distorted nourishing vasculature of gastric carcinoma were better seen with 3D imaging than 2D imaging.CONCLUSION:DCUS imaging can simultaneously display the anatomic and perfusion features of gastric lesions.3D DCUS can provide additional information to 2D DCUS for evaluation of gastric lesions.Hong Shi Xiu-Hua Yu Xin-Zhang Guo Yuan Guo Hong Zhang Bin Qian Zhang-Rui Wei Li Li Xian-Chen Wang Zi-Xiang Kong 2012World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,31:36
19Deferoxamine promotes recovery of traumatic spinal cord injury by inhibiting ferroptosis显示文摘Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent novel cell death pathway. Deferoxamine, a ferroptosis inhibitor, has been reported to promote spinal cord injury repair. It has yet to be clarified whether ferroptosis inhibition represents the mechanism of action of Deferoxamine on spinal cord injury recovery. A rat model of Deferoxamine at thoracic 10 segment was established using a modified Allen's method. Ninety 8-week-old female Wistar rats were used. Rats in the Deferoxamine group were intraperitoneally injected with 100 mg/kg Deferoxamine 30 minutes before injury. Simultaneously, the Sham and Deferoxamine groups served as controls. Drug administration was conducted for 7 consecutive days. The results were as follows:(1) Electron microscopy revealed shrunken mitochondria in the spinal cord injury group.(2) The Basso, Beattie and Bresnahan locomotor rating score showed that recovery of the hindlimb was remarkably better in the Deferoxamine group than in the spinal cord injury group.(3) The iron concentration was lower in the Deferoxamine group than in the spinal cord injury group after injury.(4) Western blot assay revealed that, compared with the spinal cord injury group, GPX4, xCT, and glutathione expression was markedly increased in the Deferoxamine group.(5) Real-time polymerase chain reaction revealed that, compared with the Deferoxamine group, mRNA levels of ferroptosis-related genes Acyl-CoA synthetase family member 2(ACSF2) and iron-responsive element-binding protein 2(IREB2) were up-regulated in the Deferoxamine group.(6) Deferoxamine increased survival of neurons and inhibited gliosis. These findings confirm that Deferoxamine can repair spinal cord injury by inhibiting ferroptosis.
