1中国CH_4排放量的估算显示文摘1987—1989年用自动连续采样分析设备对杭州地区的稻田CH_4排放进行了三年连续观测,1988—1990年用定期采样、分析方法对四川乐山地区的稻田CH_4排放进行了三年观测.发现稻田CH_4排放率有很大的日变化、季节变化和年际变化,这些变化主要是由土壤特性、水稻生长状况以及气象条件的变化造成的.不同地区稻田CH_4排放率差别很大,变化规律也不同,这种差别主要是由土壤特性,水稻品种及气候条件的差别造成的.根据现有观测资料,估计中国稻田CH_4年排放总量为17×10^(12)g.对沼气池的CH_4泄漏进行了三年系统观测研究,发现沼气池泄漏变化范围很大,但泄漏量总起来都很小,中国1000万个沼气池不构成大气CH_4的重要源.根据沼气池的泄漏估计了农村堆肥的CH_4排放量为3.2×10^(12)g/a;根据城市、稻田附近和沙漠地区大气CH_4浓度的测量结果推算了城市CH_4排放量;根据反刍动物消耗食物总量估计了反刍家畜的CH_4排放量;根据瓦斯排放资料估计了煤矿CH_4排放量;根据文献资料估计了中国天然湿地的CH_4排放量.最后估计了中国各种源的CH_4排放总量及未来变化趋势.1988年中国CH_4排放总量为40×10^(12)g,其中一半以上来自稻田.2000年中国CH_4排放总量可达45×10^(12)g,主要是反刍动物和煤矿排放量增加.王明星 戴爱国 黄俊 任丽新 沈壬兴 H. 2Tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6 in cirrhotic patients with spontaneous bacterial peritonitis显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the role of tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) and interleukin-6(IL-6) in cirrhotic patients who have hepatic and renal impairment with spontaneous bacterial peritonitis(SBP).METHODS:We prospectively studied 120 cirrhotic patients with SBP and 80 cirrhotic patients with sterile ascitic fluid.They included 144 males and 56 females with ages ranging between 34 and 62 years.The diagnosis of cirrhosis was established by clinical and laboratory criteria that did not require histological confirmation.The severity of underlying liver disease was evaluated using Pugh's modification of Child's criteria(Child-Pugh scores).Ascitic fluid was sent to the laboratory for cell count,culture,sensitivity testing,and measurement of chemical elements(i.e.,albumin,glucose).Specimens were inoculated into aerobic and anaerobic blood culture bottles.Serum and ascitic fluid were also collected in sterile tubes at study entry(before the initiation of antibiotic treatment) and 48 h later.Assays for TNF-α and IL-6 in the serum and ascitic fluid were performed with an immunoenzymometric assay using manufacture's instructions.RESULTS:Cytokine levels in serum and ascitic fluid were significantly higher in the patients with SBP.(plasma TNF-α:135.35 ng/mL ± 11.21 ng/mL vs 92.86 ng/mL ± 17.56 ng/mL,P < 0.001;plasma IL-6:32.30 pg/mL ± 7.07 pg/mL vs 12.11 pg/mL ± 6.53 pg/mL,P < 0.001;ascitic fluid TNF-α:647.54 ± 107.11 ng/mL vs 238.43 ng/mL ± 65.42 ng/mL,P < 0.001);ascitic fluid IL-6:132.84 ng/mL ± 34.13 vs 40.41 ± 12.85 pg/mL,P < 0.001).About 48(40%) cirrhotic patients with SBP developed renal and hepatic impairment and showed significantly higher plasma and ascitic fluid cytokine levels at diagnosis of infection.[(plasma TNF-α:176.58 ± 17.84 vs 135.35 ± 11.21 ng/mL)(P < 0.001) and(IL-6:57.83 ± 7.85 vs 32.30 ± 7.07 pg/mL)(P < 0.001);ascitic fluid TNF-α:958.39 ± 135.72 vs 647.54 ± 107.11 ng/mL,(P < 0.001),ascitic fluid IL-6:654.74 ± 97.43 vs 132.84 ± 34.13 pg/mL,(P < 0.001)].Twenty nine patients(60.4%) with SBP and renal impairment died whereas,only four patients(5.55%) with SBP but without renal impairment died from gastrointestinal hemorrhage(P < 0.0005).CONCLUSION:It appears that TNF-α production may enhance liver cell injury and lead to renal impairment.This correlated well with the poor prognosis and significantly increased mortality associated with SBP in cirrhotic patients.Muhammed AM Suliman Fawzy MH Khalil Salam SA Alkindi Anil V Pathare Ali AA Almadhani Neveen AAI Soliman 2012World Journal of Gastrointestinal Pathophysiology2012,3,5:39
3成都平原稻田甲烷排放的实验研究显示文摘根据1996~1999年四个稻季的观测资料,分析了成都平原单季稻甲烷排放的季节变化和年际变化特征。结果表明:在水稻生医季节甲烷排放通量变化很大,在分蘖期和成熟期一般会出现峰值。年际间的通量变化也很大,其年均排放通量的变化范围在2.35~33.95%mgm-2h-1之间。4年的平均排放通量为12mgm-2h-1,与四川乐山的7年平均值30mgm-2h-1相比,存在着明显的地区差异。同时分析讨论了温度、施肥、水稻品种、土壤氧化还原电位(Eh)以及稻田水位等诸多因素对稻田甲烷排放的影响。结果表明:在成都平原水稍生长季节的平均气温对CH4的平均排放通量影响不大;而气温对CH4排放的日变化有相对重要的影响,但气温对甲烷排放日变化的影响与水稻植物体的生长阶段有关;发现了水稻植物体(根、茎、叶)重量对CH4排放的重要作用。讨论了合理使用肥料和施肥量,控制水位和Eh值对稻田CH4的减排作用,提出优化组合诸影响因子,以充分发挥其减排潜力。任丽新 王庚辰 张仁健 段长麟 M. 4Processing and mechanical properties of porous 316L stainless steel for biomedical applications显示文摘Highly porous 316L stainless steel parts were produced by using a powder metallurgy process, which includes the selective laser sintering(SLS) and traditional sintering. Porous 316L stainless steel suitable for medical applications was successfully fabricated in the porosity range of 40%-50% (volume fraction) by controlling the SLS parameters and sintering behaviour. The porosity of the sintered compacts was investigated as a function of the SLS parameters and the furnace cycle. Compressive stress and elastic modulus of the 316L stainless steel material were determined. The compressive strength was found to be ranging from 21 to 32 MPa and corresponding elastic modulus ranging from 26 to 43 GPa. The present parts are promising for biomedical applications since the optimal porosity of implant materials for ingrowths of new-bone tissues is in the range of 20%-59% (volume fraction) and mechanical properties are matching with human bone.Montasser M. 5A Facile Recovery Process for Cathodes from Spent Lithium Iron Phosphate Batteries by Using Oxalic Acid显示文摘A simplistic and novel leaching process is developed to dispose spent lithium iron phosphate(LiFePO_(4))batteries.In this paper,oxalic acid is selected as a leaching reagent to recover lithium as a resource and remove phosphorus from LiFePO_(4) batteries,benefiting from its low natural effects.The physical properties of spent cathode materials(before leaching)and residues(after leaching)are identified by X-ray diffraction(XRD)and scanning electronic microscopy(SEM)with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS).The total amounts of Li and Fe are analyzed by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy(ICP-AES).The process occurs under conditions of a 0.3 mol·L^(-1) oxalic acid concentration,a temperature of 80℃,a reaction time of 60 min and a solid/liquid ratio of 60 g·L^(-1).It can effectively precipitate92%ferrum in terms of FeC_(2)O_(4)·2H_(2)O from LiFePO4,with the leaching efficiency of Li achieving up to 98%.This method demonstrates a new strategy for dealing with spent lithium iron phosphate batteries with a low cost and low environmental impact.Li Li Jun Lu Longyu Zhai Xiaoxiao Zhang Larry Curtiss Yi Jin Feng Wu Renjie Chen Khalil Amine 2018CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems2018,4,2:12
6Terlipressin and hepatorenal syndrome: What is important for nephrologists and hepatologists显示文摘Hepatorenal syndrome (HRS) is a reversible form of functional renal failure that occurs with advanced hepatic cirrhosis and liver failure. Despite mounting research in HRS, its etiology and medical therapy has not been resolved. HRS encompasses 2 distinct types. Type 1 is characterized by the rapid development of renal failure that occurs within 2 wk and involves a doubling of initial serum creatinine. Type 2 has a more insidious onset and is often associated with ascites. Animal studies have shown that both forms, in particular type 1 HRS, are often precipitated by bacterial infections and cir-culatory changes. The prognosis for HRS remains very poor. Type 1 and 2 both have an expected survival time of 2 wk and 6 mo, respectively. Progression of liver cir-rhosis and the resultant portal hypertension leads to the pooling of blood in the splanchnic vascular bed. The ensuing hyperdynamic circulation causes an ineffective circulatory volume which subsequently activates neuro-hormonal systems. Primarily the sympathetic nervoussystem and the renin angiotensin system are activated, which, in the early stages of HRS, maintain adequate circulation. Both advanced cirrhosis and prolonged ac-tivation of neurohormonal mechanisms result in fatal complications. Locally produced nitric oxide may have the potential to induce a deleterious vasodilatory effect on the splanchnic circulation. Currently medical therapy is aimed at reducing splanchnic vasodilation to resolve the ineffective circulation and maintain good renal per-fusion pressure. Terlipressin, a vasopressin analogue, has shown potential benefit in the treatment of HRS. It prolongs both survival time and has the ability to re-verse HRS in the majority of patients. 7GIS-based landslide susceptibility mapping using numerical risk factor bivariate model and its ensemble with linear multivariate regression and boosted regression tree algorithms显示文摘In this study, a novel approach of the landslide numerical risk factor(LNRF) bivariate model was used in ensemble with linear multivariate regression(LMR) and boosted regression tree(BRT) models, coupled with radar remote sensing data and geographic information system(GIS), for landslide susceptibility mapping(LSM) in the Gorganroud watershed, Iran. Fifteen topographic, hydrological, geological and environmental conditioning factors and a landslide inventory(70%, or 298 landslides) were used in mapping. Phased array-type L-band synthetic aperture radar data were used to extract topographic parameters. Coefficients of tolerance and variance inflation factor were used to determine the coherence among conditioning factors. Data for the landslide inventory map were obtained from various resources, such as Iranian Landslide Working Party(ILWP), Forestry, Rangeland and Watershed Organisation(FRWO), extensive field surveys, interpretation of aerial photos and satellite images, and radar data. Of the total data, 30% were used to validate LSMs, using area under the curve(AUC), frequency ratio(FR) and seed cell area index(SCAI).Normalised difference vegetation index, land use/land cover and slope degree in BRT model elevation, rainfall and distance from stream were found to be important factors and were given the highest weightage in modelling. Validation results using AUC showed that the ensemble LNRF-BRT and LNRFLMR models(AUC = 0.912(91.2%) and 0.907(90.7%), respectively) had high predictive accuracy than the LNRF model alone(AUC = 0.855(85.5%)). The FR and SCAI analyses showed that all models divided the parameter classes with high precision. 9腐秆剂用量、含水量及初始碳氮比对水稻秸秆腐解性能的影响初探显示文摘为了探明秸秆腐解的最佳初始条件,为腐熟秸秆还田提供科学依据,以水稻秸秆为腐解对象,设置不同的'金葵子'腐秆剂用量(因素A:A_0、A_(0.5)、A_(1.0);%)、含水量(因素B:B_(50)、B_(60)、B_(70);%)及初始碳氮(C/N)比(因素C:C_(20)、C_(22)、C_(25))等初始条件,进行正交试验,研究水稻秸秆腐解过程中pH、种子发芽指数(GI)、C/N比、腐解率(DR)、水溶性有机碳(DOC)及紫外光谱参数(SUVA_(280)、E_2/E_3和A_(226-400))等指标的动态变化,以确定这些初始条件对水稻秸秆腐解性能的影响。结果表明,(1)在腐解过程中,所有处理GI和DR值均随着腐解的进行逐渐升高;A_0B_(70)C_(25)和A_(0.5)B_(70)C_(22)处理C/N比持续下降,其他处理先升高后下降;A_0B_(50)C_(20)和A_(1.0)B_(70)C_(20)处理DOC含量先升高后下降,其他处理持续升高,紫外光谱参数的变化反映了水溶性有机物芳香性结构和腐殖化程度变化情况。(2)腐解结束时,未腐熟完全的A_(0)B_(50)C_(20)处理pH、GI和DR值(分别为7.05、34.9%和30.7%)明显较低,其C/N比(25.7)则明显较高,而大多数处理pH值符合腐熟堆肥标准(8.00-9.00),GI值符合毒性较低(≥50%)或完全腐熟状态(≥80%);A_0B_(70)C_(25)、A_(0.5)B_(70)C_(22)和A_(1.0)B_(60)C_(25)处理C/N比(分别为13.1、14.4、16.4)基本符合腐解产物最佳C/N比标准(15.0);A_(0.5)B_(70)C_(22)处理DR值(47.1%)最高。通过紫外光谱参数测定来预测GI值大小,为判断秸秆是否腐熟完全提供了一种替代性评价方法。直观分析法表明,水稻秸秆腐解最佳初始条件为'金葵子'腐秆剂0.5%、含水量70%、初始C/N比25;腐秆剂用量对DOC含量影响最大,含水量对C/N比、DR、SUVA280、E_2/E_3和A_(226-400)值影响最大,初始C/N比对pH和GI值影响最大。朱雅琪 王珊 柳勇 陈应龙 KARIMAN Khalil 梁金明 温元明 周定志 陈展豪 张木 易秀 2019生态环境学报2019,28,3:9
10Plant-derived anticancer agents: A green anticancer approach显示文摘Cancer is a frightful disease and represents one of the biggest health-care issues for the human race and demands a proactive strategy for cure. Plants are reservoirs for novel chemical entities and provide a promising line for research on cancer. Hitherto, being effective, chemotherapy is accompanied by certain unbearable side effects. Nevertheless,plants and plant derived products is a revolutionizing field as these are Simple, safer, ecofriendly, low-cost, fast, and less toxic as compared with conventional treatment methods.Phytochemicals are selective in their functions and acts specifically on tumor cells without affecting normal cells. Carcinogenesis is complex phenomena that involves many signaling cascades. Phytochemicals are considered suitable candidates for anticancer drug development due to their pleiotropic actions on target events with multiple manners. The research is in progress for developing potential candidates(those can block or slow down the growth of cancer cells without any side effects) from these phytochemicals. Many phytochemicals and their derived analogs have been identified as potential candidates for anticancer therapy. Effort has been made through this comprehensive review to highlight the recent developments and milestones achieved in cancer therapies using phytomolecules with their mechanism of action on nuclear and cellular factors. 12Assessment of KL-6 as a tumor marker in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘AIM: To investigate the clinical significance of KL-6 as a tumor marker of HCC in two different ethnic groups with chronic liver disease consecutively encountered at outpatient clinics.METHODS: Serum KL-6 was measured by the sandwich enzyme immunoassay method using the KL-6 antibody (Ab) as both the capture and tracerAb according to the manufacturer's instructions (Eisai, Tokyo, Japan).Assessment of alpha fetoprotein (AFP) and protein induced vitamin K deficiency or absence (PIVKA-Ⅱ) was performed in both groups using commercially available kits.RESULTS: A significantly higher mean serum KL-6(556±467 U/L) was found in HCC in comparison with non-HCC groups either with (391±176 U/L; P<0.001)or without (361±161 U/L; P<0.001) liver cirrhosis (LC).Serum KL-6 level did not correlate with either AFP or PIVKA-Ⅱ serU/Levels. Using receiver operating curve analysis for KL-6 as a predictor for HCC showed that the area under the curve was 0.574 (95%CI = 0.50-0.64)and the KL-6 level that gave the best sensitivity (61%) was found to be 334 U/L but according to the manufacturer's instructions; a cut-off point of 500 U/Lwas used that showed the highest specificity (80%)in comparison with AFP and PIVKA-Ⅱ (78% vs 72%respectively). Combining the values of the three markers improved specificity of AFP for HCC diagnosis from 78%for AFP alone; 93% for AFP plus PIVKA-Ⅱ to 99% for both plus KL-6 value (P<0.001). 13Pancreatic injury in patients with septic shock: A literature review显示文摘Sepsis and septic shock are life threatening condition associated with high mortality rate in critically-ill patients. This high mortality is mainly related to the inadequacy between oxygen delivery and cellular demand leading to the onset of multiorgan dysfunction. Whether this multiorgan failure affect the pancreas is not fully investigated. In fact, pancreatic injury may occur because of ischemia, overwhelming inflammatory response, oxidative stress, cellular apoptosis and/or metabolic derangement. Increased serum amylase and/or lipase levels are common in patients with septic shock. However, imaging test rarely reveal significant pancreatic damage. Whether pancreatic dysfunction does affect the prognosis of patients with septic shock or not is still a matter of debate. In fact, only few studies with limited sample size assessed the clinical relevance of the pancreatic injury in this group of patients. In this review, we aimed to describe the epidemiology and the physiopathology of pancreatic injury in septic shock patients, to clarify whether it requires specific management and to assess its prognostic value. Our main finding is that pancreatic injury does not significantly affect the outcome in septic shock patients. 14The benefits of neuroinflammation for the repair of the injured central nervous system显示文摘Inflammation of the nervous system(neuroinflammation)is now recognized as a hallmark of virtually all neurological disorders.In neuroinflammatory conditions such as multiple sclerosis,there is prominent infiltration and a long-lasting representation of various leukocyte subsets in the central nervous system(CNS)parenchyma.Even in classic neurodegenerative disorders,where such immense inflammatory infiltrates are absent,there is still evidence of activated CNS-intrinsic microglia.The consequences of excessive and uncontrolled neuroinflammation are injury and death to neural elements,which manifest as a heterogeneous set of neurological symptoms.However,it is now readily acknowledged,due to instructive studies from the peripheral nervous system and a large body of CNS literature,that aspects of the neuroinflammatory response can be beneficial for CNS outcomes.The recognized benefits of inflammation to the CNS include the preservation of CNS constituents(neuroprotection),the proliferation and maturation of various neural precursor populations,axonal regeneration,and the reformation of myelin on denuded axons.Herein,we highlight the benefits of neuroinflammation in fostering CNS recovery after neural injury using examples from multiple sclerosis,traumatic spinal cord injury,stroke,and Alzheimer’s disease.We focus on CNS regenerative responses,such as neurogenesis,axonal regeneration,and remyelination,and discuss the mechanisms by which neuroinflammation is pro-regenerative for the CNS.Finally,we highlight treatment strategies that harness the benefits of neuroinflammation for CNS regenerative responses.Heather Y.F.Yong Khalil S.Rawji Samira Ghorbani Mengzhou Xue V.Wee Yong 2019Cellular & Molecular Immunology2019,16,6:7

16Tensile properties and hot tearing susceptibility of cast Al–Cu alloys containing excess Fe and Si显示文摘This study was undertaken to investigate the tensile properties and hot tearing susceptibility of cast Al–Cu alloys containing excess Fe(up to 1.5 wt%)and Si(up to 2.5 wt%).According to the results,the optimum tensile properties and hot tearing resistance were achieved at Fe/Si mass ratio of 1,where theα-Fe phase was the dominant Fe compound.Increasing the Fe/Si mass ratio above unity increased the amounts of detrimentalβ-Cu Fe platelets in the microstructure,deteriorating the tensile properties and hot tearing resistance.Decreasing the mass ratio below unity increased the size and fraction of Si needles and micropores in the microstructure,also impairing the tensile properties and hot tearing resistance.The investigation of hot-torn surfaces revealed that theβ-Cu Fe platelets disrupted the tear healing phenomenon by blocking interdendritic feeding channels,while theα-Fe intermetallics improved the hot tearing resistivity due to their compact morphology and high melting point.Khalil Ganjehfard Reza Taghiabadi Mohammad Talafi Noghani Mohammad Hossein Ghoncheh 2021International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2021,28,4:6
17Growth and wood properties of a 38-year-old Populus simonii 3 P.nigra plantation established with different densities in semi-arid areas of northeastern China显示文摘To characterize the effects of plantation densities on the growth characteristics(diameter at breast level,tree height and volume)and the common wood properties,38-year-old Populus simonii 9 P.nigra clones planted with four levels of spacing(2 m 92 m,3 m 93 m,4 m 94 m,and 5 m 95 m)in a semi-arid area in northeastern China were examined.The results of ANOVA showed significant differences(P\0.01)for all the investigated growth traits and wood properties under different plantation densities,except for the chemical composition of wood.The repeatability and phenotypic variations of all the traits varied from 0.34 to 0.99 and from 13.45 to 59.65%,respectively.Except for wood density,which was significantly negatively correlated with the growth traits,a positive correlation was observed between the growth traits and all the other wood mechanical properties.However,most of the correlations between the growth traits and the chemical composition of the wood were not significant.The path analysis for the wood mechanical characteristics and the growth in the prediction of volume were significant and ranged from 0.18 to 0.72 for wood density and diameter at breast height,respectively,while those for the chemical composition of wood ranged from 0.001 to 0.336,which showed a low impact on the volume.The highest stand volume(610 m3)per hectare was observed with the 2 m 92 m spacing,which consequently provided a high total price and income,while a high individual volume growth per tree was observed with the 5 m 95 m spacing.The results suggested that for the poplar trees younger than 40 years in a semi-arid area in China,2 m 92 m spacing is suitable for obtaining a high volume per hectare,while 5 m 95 m spacing is best for obtaining a high individual volume per tree.Ammar Khalil Mohamed Ahmed Zhixiang Fu Changjun Ding Luping Jiang Xidong Han Aiguo Yang Yinghui Ma Xiyang Zhao 2020Journal of Forestry Research2020,31,2:6
18Polyimide-silver nanocomposite containing phosphine oxide moieties in the main chain:Synthesis and properties显示文摘New flame-retardant polyimide-silver nanocomposite containing phosphine oxide moiety in the main chain was synthesized by a convenient ultraviolet irradiation technique.A precursor such as AgNO_3 was used as the source of the silver particles.Polyimide 6 as a source of polymer was synthesized by polycondensation reaction of bis(3-aminophenyl) phenyl phosphine oxide 4 with pyromellitic anhydride 5 in the presence of iso-quinoline as base and in m-cresol solution.The resulting composite film was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy,X-ray diffraction(XRD),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),thermogravimetry(TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC).The average size of the nanometer Ag particles is about 10 nm.The temperature of 5 and 10%weight loss and also the char yield at 600℃of polyimide-silver nanocomposite 6a were higher than the pure PI 6.Khalil Faghihi Mohsen Hajibeygi Meisam Shabanian 2010Chinese Chemical Letters2010,21,11:5
19Surgical management of moderate ischemic mitral valve regurgitation: Where do we stand?显示文摘Ischemic mitral regurgitation(IMR) represents a common complication after myocardial infarction. The valve is anatomically normal and the incompetence is the result of papillary muscles displacement and annular dilatation, causing leaflets tethering. Functionally the leaflets present a restricted systolic motion due to tethering forces that displaces the coaptation surface toward the left ventricle apex. The patients present poor left ventricular function at the time of surgery and the severity of the mitral regurgitation increases the risk of mortality. Currently there is general agreement to treat surgically severe IMR nevertheless strong evidences for patient with moderate insufficiency remains poor and proper treatment debated. The most effectivesurgical approach for the treatment of IMR remains debated. Some authors demonstrated that coronary artery bypass graft(CABG) alone is beneficial in patients with IMR. Conversely, in most patients, moderate IMR will persist or worsen after CABG alone which translate in higher long-term mortality as a function of residual mitral regurgitation severity. A probable reason for this unclear surgical management of functional MR is due to the contemporary suboptimal results of reparative techniques. The standard surgical treatment of chronic IMR is CABG associated with undersized annuloplasty using complete ring. Though, the recurrence of mitral regurgitation remains high(> 30%) because of continous left ventricle remodeling. To get better long term results, in the last decade, several subvalvular procedures in adjunct to mitral anuloplasty have been developed. Among them, surgical papillary muscle relocation represents the most appreciated option capable to restore normal left ventricle geometry. 20Microstructural evolution and intermetallic formation in Al-8wt% Si-0.8wt% Fe alloy due to grain refiner and modifier additions显示文摘An alloy of Al-8wt% Si-0.8wt% Fe was cast in a metallic die, and its microstructural changes due to Ti-B refiner and Sr modifier additions were studied. Apart from usual refinement and modification of the microstructure, some mutual influences of the additives took place, and no mutual poisoning effects by these additives, in combined form, were observed. It was noticed that the dimensions of the iron-rich intermetallics were influenced by the additives causing them to become larger. The needle-shaped intermetallics that were obtained from refiner addition became thicker and longer when adding the modifier. It was also found that α-Al and eutectic silicon phases preferentially nucleate on different types of intermetallic compounds. The more iron content of the intermetallic compounds and the more changes in their dimensions occurred.
