2Numerical simulation of mechanisms of deformation, failure and energy dissipation in porous rock media subjected to wave stresses显示文摘The pore characteristics, mineral compositions, physical and mechanical properties of the subarkose sandstones were acquired by means of CT scan,X-ray diffraction and physical tests.A few physical models possessing the same pore characteristics and matrix properties but different porosities compared to the natural sandstones were developed. The 3D finite element models of the rock media with varied porosities were established based on the CT image processing of the physical models and the MIMICS software platform. The failure processes of the porous rock media loaded by the split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB) were simulated by satisfying the elastic wave propagation theory. The dynamic responses, stress transition, deformation and failure mechanisms of the porous rock media subjected to the wave stresses were analyzed. It is shown that an explicit and quantitative analysis of the stress, strain and deformation and failure mechanisms of porous rocks under the wave stresses can be achieved by using the developed 3D finite element models. With applied wave stresses of certain amplitude and velocity,no evident pore deformation was observed for the rock media with a porosity less than 15%.The deformation is dominantly the combination of microplasticity(shear strain),cracking(tensile strain) of matrix and coalescence of the cracked regions around pores.Shear stresses lead to microplasticity, while tensile stresses result in cracking of the matrix.Cracking and coalescence of the matrix elements in the neighborhood of pores resulted from the high transverse tensile stress or tensile strain which exceeded the threshold values. The simulation results of stress wave propagation, deformation and failure mechanisms and energy dissipation in porous rock media were in good agreement with the physical tests. The present study provides a reference for analyzing the intrinsic mechanisms of the complex dynamic response, stress transit mode, deformation and failure mechanisms and the disaster mechanisms of rock media.JU Yang1,2,WANG HuiJie1,YANG YongMing1,HU QinAng3 & PENG RuiDong1 1 State Key Laboratory of Coal Resources and Safe Mining,Beijing Key Laboratory of Fracture and Damage Mechanics of Rock and Concrete,China University of Mining and Technology,Beijing 100083,China 2 Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering,University of Calgary,Calgary,Alberta,T2N 1N4,Canada 3 School of Environment and Civil Engineering,College of Engineering,Oklahoma State University,Stillwater,OK 74078,USA 2010Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,4:32
3Energy analysis for damage and catastrophic failure of rocks显示文摘The development history and current state of studies on the characteristics and mechanisms of deformation and failure of rock materials were briefly reviewed from the viewpoint of energy. The main scope and the achievable objectives of the energy-based research system were expatiated. It was validated by experiments that the damage process of rocks can be well described by the rock damage evolution equation established based on energy dissipation. It was found from the uniaxial compression and biaxial compression tests that only a small proportion of the total input energy in hard rocks is dissipated before peak load and a large proportion in soft rocks is dissipated before peak load. For both hard and soft rocks, the energy dissipated after peak load accounts for a greater proportion.More energy would be required for rock failure under equal biaxial compression than under unequal biaxial compression. The total absorbed energy is different for rock failure under high-rate loading and low-rate loading.More fragmented failure pattern usually corresponds to higher energy absorption. The mesoscopic analysis on the damage and failure of bedded salt rocks showed that the energy dissipation is prominent and the total absorbed energy for rock failure is low when cracks propagate in the weak mud interlayer while it is contrary when cracks propagate in the salt rock. The energy accumulation, transfer, dissipation and release during the failure process of tunnel with impending failure under disturbance were analyzed theoretically based on the elastoplastic mechanics theory.Furthermore, the spatial distribution of energy dissipation and energy release of fractured rocks under unloading was simulated numerically. It was demonstrated that energy is likely to be released from the weakest surface under compression, which triggers the global failure of rocks.XIE HePing 1,2,LI LiYun 2,1,JU Yang 2,PENG RuiDong 2 & YANG YongMing 2 1 Sichuan University,Chengdu 610065,China 2 State Key Laboratory of Coal Resources and Safe Mining,Beijing Key Laboratory of Fracture and Damage Mechanics of Rock and Concrete,China University of Mining and Technology,Beijing 100083,China 2011Science China(Technological Sciences)2011,54,S1:29
4Microcosmic analysis of ductile shearing zones of coal seams of brittle deformation domain in superficial lithosphere显示文摘The ductile shearing zones of coal seams in a brittle deformation domain in super-ficial lithosphere are put forward based on the study on bedding shearing and ductile rheology of coal seams. The macrocosmic and microcosmic characteristics include wrinkle fold, mymonitized zones and ductile planar structure of coal seams, etc., while the microcosmic characteristics may also include different optic-axis fabrics and the anisotropy of vitrinite reflectance as well as the change of chemical structure and organic geochemistry components. The forming mechanism is analyzed and the strain environment of ductile shearing zones of coal seams discussed. The result indicates that, in the superficial brittle deformation domain, the coal seams are easy to be deformed, resulting in not only brittle deformation but also ductile shearing deformation under the action of force. Because of simple shearing stress, the interlayer gliding or ductile rheology may take place between coal seams and wall rocks. Therefore, many ductile shearing zones come into being in superficial lithosphere (<5 km). The research on ductile shearing zone of brittle de-formation domain in superficial lithosphere is significant not only theoretically for the study of ductile shearing and ductile rheology of the lithosphere but also practically for the structural movement of coal seams, the formation and accumulation of coal-bed methane, and the preven-tion and harness of gas burst in coal mine.JU Yiwen1,2, WANG Guiliang2, JIANG Bo2 & HOU Quanlin1 1. 5A statistical model for porous structure of rocks显示文摘The geometric features and the distribution properties of pores in rocks were in- vestigated by means of CT scanning tests of sandstones. The centroidal coordi- nates of pores, the statistic characterristics of pore distance, quantity, size and their probability density functions were formulated in this paper. The Monte Carlo method and the random number generating algorithm were employed to generate two series of random numbers with the desired statistic characteristics and prob- ability density functions upon which the random distribution of pore position, dis- tance and quantity were determined. A three-dimensional porous structural model of sandstone was constructed based on the FLAC3D program and the information of the pore position and distribution that the series of random numbers defined. On the basis of modelling, the Brazil split tests of rock discs were carried out to ex- amine the stress distribution, the pattern of element failure and the inosculation of failed elements. The simulation indicated that the proposed model was consistent with the realistic porous structure of rock in terms of their statistic properties of pores and geometric similarity. The built-up model disclosed the influence of pores on the stress distribution, failure mode of material elements and the inosculation of failed elements.JU Yang1,2, YANG YongMing1, SONG ZhenDuo3 & XU WenJing4 1 State Key Laboratory of Coal Resources and Safe Mining, China University of Mining & Technology, Beijing 100083, China 2 Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, The University of Calgary, 2500 University Drive NW Calgary, AB T2N 1N4, Canada 3 China National Coal Mining Equipment Co. 6^(13)C NMR spectra of tectonic coals and the effects of stress on structural components显示文摘High-resolution 13C Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectra of different kinds of tectonic coals were obtained using the NMR (CP/MAS+TOSS) method. On the basis of this, after simulation synthesis and division of spectra, the relative contents of carbon functional groups were calculated. Combined with results of Ro, max, XRD testing and element analysis, stress effects on the composition of macromolecular structures in tectonic coals were studied further. The results showed that Ro, max was not only the important index for describing coal rank, but was also effective for estimating the stress effect of tectonic coals. Under tectonic stress ac- tion, Ro, max was the most direct indicator of the coal structure and chemical components. Changes in the stacking Lc of the coal basic structure unit (BSU) and La/Lc parameters could distinguish the temperature and stress effects on metamorphic-deformed environments, and re- flected the degree of structural deformation. Therefore, on the whole, Lc and La/Lc can be used to index of the degree of structural deformation of tectonic coals. In different metamorphic and de- formed environments, different kinds of tectonic coals are formed under structural stress. The changes in characteristics of the macromolecular structure and chemical composition are such that as the increase in structural deformation becomes stronger, from the brittle deformation coal to ductile deformation coal, the ratio of width at the half height of the aromatic carbon and ali- phatic carbon peaks (Hfa/Hfal ) was increased. As carbon aromaticity was raised further, carbon aliphaticity reduced obviously and different compositions of macromolecular structure appeared as a jump and wave pattern except for in wrinkle structure coal, which might result chiefly from stress effects on the macromolecular structure of different kinds of tectonic coals. The macro- moecular changes of wrinkle structure coal are reflected mainly on physical structure. In the metamorphic and deformed environments of the middle and high rank coals, different kinds of tectonic coals, when compared with the metamorphic and deformed environments of low rank coal, have a greater change in Hfa/Hfal, carbon aromaticity, carbon aliphaticity and a different composition of macromolecular structure. So these parameters can be used to estimate in- creases of coal rank, and to a certain degree, the stress effects on structural components of tectonic coals.JU Yiwen1,2, JIANG Bo1, HOU Quanlin2, WANG Guiliang1 & NI Shanqin2 1. 8Dynamic equivalent method of interconnected power systems with consideration of motor loads显示文摘The existing equivalent methods usually only deal with static load models and neglect the dynamic characteristics of loads such as induction motors. This paper presents a dynamic equivalent method which considers motor dynamics. At first, the clustering criterion of motor loads is given. The motors with similar dynamic characteristics are classified into one group. Then, reduction of motors in the same group is carried out. Finally, parameters of the equivalent motor are calculated and the equivalent system is thus obtained. This aggregation method is applied to the New England system of 39-buses and 10-generators.Simulation results show that the equivalent system retains the dynamic performance of the original system with good accuracy.Compared with the 1-motor equivalent scheme, the 2-motor equivalent scheme can improve equivalent precision effectively.ZHOU HaiQiang1,JU Ping1,YANG Hui1 & SUN Ran2 1 Electrical Engineering School,HoHai University,Nanjing 210098,China 2 Henan Power Dispatching & Communication Center,Zhengzhou 450052,China 2010Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,4:10
9Experimental study of dynamic mechanical properties of reactive powder concrete under high-strain-rate impacts显示文摘The dynamic mechanical properties of reactive powder concrete subjected to compressive impacts with high strain rates ranging from 10 to 1.1×102 s-1 were investigated by means of SHPB (split-Hopkinson-pressure-bar) tests of the cylindrical specimens with five different steel fiber volumetric fractions. The properties of wave stress transmission, failure, strength, and energy consumption of RPC with varied fiber volumes and impact strain rates were analyzed. The influences of impact strain rates and fiber volumes on those properties were characterized as well. The general forms of the dynamic stress-strain relationships of RPC were modeled based on the experimental data. The investigations indicate that for the plain RPC the stress response is greater than the strain response, showing strong brittle performance. The RPC with a certain volume of fibers sustains higher strain rate impact and exhibits better deformability as compared with the plain RPC.With a constant fiber fraction, the peak compressive strength, corresponding peak strain and the residual strain of the fiber-reinforced RPC rise by varying amounts when the impact strain rate increases, with the residual strain demonstrating the greatest increment.Elevating the fiber content makes trivial contribution to improving the residual deformability of RPC when the impact strain rate is constant. The tests also show that the fiber content affects the peak compressive strength and the peak deformability of RPC in a different manner. With a constant impact strain rate and the fiber fraction less than 1.75%,the peak compressive strength rises with an increasing fiber volume. The peak compressive strength tends to decrease as the fiber volume exceeds 1.75%.The corresponding peak strain, however, incessantly rises with the increasing fiber volume. The total energy Edisp that RPC consumed during the period from the beginning of impacts to the time of residual strains elevates with the fiber volume increment as long as the fiber fraction is not larger than 2%.It turns to decrease if the fiber volume exceeds 2%.The added fibers make various contributions to enhancing the capability of RPC to consume energy at different loading stages. If the fiber fraction is not larger than 2%,the added fibers make more contribution to enhancing the energy consumption ability of RPC in the period before the peak strain than in the period after the peak strain. The impact strain rate, however, distinctively affects the total energy that RPC consumed and the energy consumed in the different loading periods. The higher the impact strain rate, the more the energy consumed in the stages and therefore the higher the dynamic impact toughness. The empirical relationships of the peak compressive strength, corresponding peak strain, residual strain, total consumed energy and the energy consumed in the varied periods with the impact strain rate and the fiber fraction are derived.Four generalized forms of the dynamic impact stress-strain responses of RPC are formulated by normalizing stresses and strains as the generalized coordinates and by taking account of the influences of impact strain rates and fiber volumetric fractions.JU Yang1,2,LIU HongBin1,SHENG GuoHua1,3 & WANG HuiJie1 1 State Key Laboratory of Coal Resources and Safe Mining,Beijing Key Laboratory of Fracture and Damage Mechanics of Rocks and Concrete,China University of Mining and Technology,Beijing 100083,China 2 Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering,University of Calgary,2500 University Drive,AB T2N 1N4,Canada 3 School of Resources and Civil Engineering,Northeastern University,Shenyang 110004,China 2010Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,9:8
10NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF FORGING AND SUBSEQUENT HEAT TREATMENT OF A ROD BY A FINITE VOLUME METHOD显示文摘A method to simulate processes of forging and subsequent heat treatment of an axial symmetric rod is formulated in eulerian description and the feasibility is investigated. This method uses finite volume mushes for troching material deformation and an automatically refined facet surface to accurately trace the free surface of the deforming material. In the method, the deforming work piece flows through fixed finite volume meshes using eulerian formulation to describe the conservation laws,Fixed finite volume meshing is particularly suitable for large three-dimensional deformation such as forging because remeshing techniques are not required, which are commonly considered to be the main bottelencek in the ssimulations of large defromation by using the finite element method,By means of this finite volume method, an approach has been developed in the framework of 'metallo-thermo-mechanics' to simulate metallic structure, temperature and stress/strain coupled in the heat treatment process. In a first step of simulation, the heat treatment solver is limited in small deformation hypothesis, and un- coupled with forging. The material is considered as elastic-plastic and takes into account of strain, strain rate and temperature effects on the yield stress.Heat generation due to deformation, heat con- duction and thermal stress are considered.Temperature - dependent phase transformation,stress-in- duced phase transformation, latent heat, transformation stress and strain are included. These ap- proaches are implemented into the commerical commercial computer program MSC/SuperForge and a verification example with experimental date is given as comparison.P. 12The response of the early developmental stages of Laminaria japonica to enhanced ultraviolet-B radiation显示文摘The responses of the early development of Laminaria japonica collected from Kiaochow Bay in China to enhanced ultraviolet-B radiation (UV-B, 280—320 nm) were studied in the laboratory. The low UV-B ra-diations (11.7—23.4 J·m-2·d-1) had no significant effects on zoospores attachment, but when the UV-B dose > 35.1 J·m-2·d-1 the attachment decreased significantly compared with the control. Germination of embryospores was >93% under the low (11.7—35.1 J·m-2·d-1) doses, and in the range of 78.5%—88.5% under the high (46.8—70.2 J·m-2·d-1) UV-B doses, indicating a significant radiation effect. Under the higher UV-B exposure (35.1—70.2 J·m-2·d-1), all of the few gametophytes formed from embryospores died 120 h post-release. After exposure to the low UV-B radiation (11.7—23.4 J·m-2·d-1), the formation of sporophytes decreased and the female gametophyte clones increased compared with the control. However, the sex ratio and the relative growth of female gametophytes/sporophytes had not signifi-cantly changed. According to the results, enhanced UV-B radiation has a significant effect on the early development of L. japonica under laboratory conditions, suggesting that the UV-B radiation could not be overlooked as one of the important environmental factors influencing the ontogeny of macroalgae living in marine ecosystems.LIU Su1, ZHANG QuanSheng2, WANG You1, JU Qing1 & TANG XueXi1 1 Laboratory of Ecology, College of Marine Life Sciences, Ocean University of China, Qingdao 266003, China 2 Marine College, Yantai University, Yantai 264000, China 2008Science China(Life Sciences)2008,51,12:4
13Stimulus responsive fluorescent hyperbranched polymers and their applications显示文摘Fluorescent hyperbranched polymers (FHBPs),which combine the versatile fluorescent property with unique characteristics of hyperbranched architecture, are desirable candidates for stimulus responsive materials. This review demonstrates the structure and environment-dependent emission behaviors of a series of FHBPs.AEE active FHBPs showing opposite performance to ACQ effect are used to sensitively detect explosives and a superamplification effect is found.Specially designed FHBPs can complex with metal ions, leading to fluorescence turn-off due to complex quenching effect. The protonation of amino-containing FHBPs exhibits pH-dependent fluorescence responses to solution acidity. Some FHBPs containing responsive moieties are photo-and thermo-sensitive,and show potential applications as smart materials.WANG Jian 1,MEI Ju 1,QIN AnJun 1,SUN JingZhi 1 & TANG Ben Zhong 1,2 1 MOE Key Laboratory of Macromolecular Synthesis and Functionalization Department of Polymer Science and Engineering,Institute of Biomedical Macromolecules,Zhejiang University,Hangzhou 310027,China 2 Department of Chemistry,The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology,Hong Kong,China 2010Science China Chemistry2010,53,12:3

20A local spin evaluation into the active site models of [2Fe2S] ferrodoxin [Fe_2S_2(SR)_4]^(2-) (R=-H, -CH_3)显示文摘To test the feasibility of local spin theory of Davidson and Clark for ferrodoxin clusters, the models [Fe2S2(SR)4]2- (R=-H, -CH3) are chosen for evaluation. This purpose is realized by calculating the local spin expectation values , , and mA and discussing the connection between these expected values and the Heisenberg spin model (HSM) and the Noodleman broken-symmetry approach. In practical calculation, the spin-unrestricted Hartree-Fock (UHF) and spin-polarized density functional theory (DFT) are used and the calculational qualities of these two methods are also discussed. In addition, the theoretical magnetic coupling constants JAB of these models are calculated by various computational schemes for comparison with both theoretical and experimental results previously reported.WEI JiChong1,2, WANG Yan3 & JU GuanZhi2,3 1 Department of Chemistry, Hainan Normal University, Haikou 571158, China 2 State Key Laboratory of Theoretical and Computational Chemistry, Jilin University, Changchun 130023, China 3 Department of Chemistry, Nanjing University, Nanjing 210093, China 2007Science China Chemistry2007,50,3:0
