3Optimization of parameters for cerium(Ⅲ) biosorption onto biowaste materials of animal and plant origin using 5-level Box-Behnken design: Equilibrium, kinetic, thermodynamic and regeneration studies显示文摘Response surface methodology(RSM) employing 5-level Box-Behnken design was used to optimize the biosorption of cerium(Ⅲ) onto biowaste materials of animal and plant origin viz. prawn carapace(PC) and corn style(CS). Various process parameters viz. pH(A: 3.0–9.0), biomass dosage(B: 0.05–0.35 g/L), initial metal concentration(C: 50–350 mg/L), contact time(D: 2–6 h) and temperature(E: 20–60 °C) were chosen for optimization. A log transformation was suggested by the Box-Cox plot in the present case. A low p-value of <0.0001 validated the significance of the model. Maximum Ce(Ⅲ) uptake of 218.3 mg/g for PC and 180.2 mg/g for CS was noted under optimum conditions. Among the equilibrium isotherms, Freundlich model was found to be the best fitted one suggesting a heterogeneous mode of biosorption on PC whereas Langmuir model showed the best fit suggesting homogeneous mode of cerium biosorption on CS. This was further confirmed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM). Kinetic studies showed better applicability of pseudo-first order model suggesting physisorption as phenomena underlying the process. Film-diffusion was suggested by the non-linearity of the Boyd plot. Thermodynamic studies showed that the process was endothermic and spontaneous. FTIR analysis confirmed a major involvement of the participation of amide, amines, ketones and primary alcohol groups during Ce(Ⅲ) biosorption. EDAX analysis confirmed the major participation of carbon group during Ce(Ⅲ) biosorption. 4Rapid adsorption of toxic Pb(Ⅱ) ions from aqueous solution using multiwall carbon nanotubes synthesized by microwave chemical vapor deposition technique显示文摘Multiwall carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs) were synthesized using a tubular microwave chemical vapor deposition technique, using acetylene and hydrogen as the precursor gases and ferrocene as catalyst. The novel MWCNT samples were tested for their performance in terms of Pb(Ⅱ)binding. The synthesized MWCNT samples were characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared(FT-IR), Brunauer, Emmett and Teller(BET), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy(FESEM) analysis, and the adsorption of Pb(Ⅱ) was studied as a function of p H,initial Pb(Ⅱ) concentration, MWCNT dosage, agitation speed, and adsorption time, and process parameters were optimized. The adsorption data followed both Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms. On the basis of the Langmuir model, Qmaxwas calculated to be 104.2 mg/g for the microwave-synthesized MWCNTs. In order to investigate the dynamic behavior of MWCNTs as an adsorbent, the kinetic data were modeled using pseudo first-order and pseudo second-order equations. Different thermodynamic parameters, viz., ΔH0, ΔS0and ΔG0were evaluated and it was found that the adsorption was feasible, spontaneous and endothermic in nature. The statistical analysis revealed that the optimum conditions for the highest removal(99.9%) of Pb(Ⅱ) are at p H 5, MWCNT dosage 0.1 g, agitation speed 160 r/min and time of 22.5 min with the initial concentration of 10 mg/L. 5Comparison of a plant based natural surfactant with SDS for washing of As(V) from Fe rich soil显示文摘This study explores the possible application of a biodegradable plant based surfactant,obtained from Sapindus mukorossi,for washing low levels of arsenic(As)from an iron(Fe)rich soil.Natural association of As(V)with Fe(III)makes the process difcult.Soapnut solution was compared to anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS)in down-flow and a newly introduced suction mode for soil column washing.It was observed that soapnut attained up to 86%efciency with respect to SDS in removing As.Full factorial design of experiment revealed a very good fit of data.The suction mode generated up to 83 kPa pressure inside column whilst down-flow mode generated a much higher pressure of 214 kPa,thus making the suction mode more efcient.Micellar solubilisation was found to be responsible for As desorption from the soil and it followed 1st order kinetics.Desorption rate coefcient of suction mode was found to be in the range of 0.005 to 0.01,much higher than down-flow mode values.Analysis of the FT-IR data suggested that the soapnut solution did not interact chemically with As,ofering an option for reusing the surfactant.Soapnut can be considered as a soil washing agent for removing As even from soil with high Fe content.Soumyadeep Mukhopadhyay Mohd. 9Novel degradation products of argatroban: Isolation, synthesis and extensive characterization using NMR and LC-PDA-MS/Q-TOF显示文摘Forced degradation study of argatroban under conditions of hydrolysis(neutral, acidic and alkaline), oxidation,photolysis and thermal stress, as suggested in the ICH Q1 A(R2), was accomplished. The drug showed significant degradation under hydrolysis(acidic, alkaline) and oxidation(peroxide stress) conditions. The drug remained stable under thermal and photolytic stress conditions. In total, seven novel degradation products(DP-1 to DP-7) were found under diverse conditions, which were not reported earlier. 10Extracellular synthesis of silver nanoparticles using dried leaves of pongamia pinnata(L) pierre显示文摘Extract of oven dried leaves of Pongamia pinnata(L) Pierre was used for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles. Stable and crystalline silver nanoparticles were formed by the treatment of aqueous solution of AgNO_3(1m M) with dried leaf extract of Pongamia pinnata(L) Pierre. UV-visible spectroscopy studies were carried out to quantify the formation of silver nanoparticles. Transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy were used to characterize the silver nanoparticles. TEM image divulges that silver nanoparticles are quite polydispersed, the size ranging from 20 nm to 50 nm with an average of 38 nm. Water soluble heterocyclic compounds such as flavones were mainly responsible for the reduction and stabilization of the nanoparticles. Silver nanoparticles were effective against Escherichia coli(ATCC 8739), Staphylococcus aureus(ATCC 6538p), Pseudomonas aeruginosa(ATCC 9027) and Klebsiella pneumoniae(clinical isolate). 11Antioxidant and cytotoxic effects of hexane extract of Morinda pubescens leaves in human liver cancer cell line显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the antioxidant and cytotoxic effects of hexane extract of Morinda pubescens leaves and to find the primary bioactive compound responsible for antioxidant and cytotoxic activities.Methods:The individual compounds were isolated using column chromatography and were characterized by spectroscopic techniques.The antioxidant activity was evaluated for all individual isolated compounds by DPPH method using L-Ascorbic acid as standard and cytotoxicity was assessed for the extract and the hyoscyamine by MTT assay, caspase test and RT-PCR study.Results:The antioxidant activity of the isolated compounds and the extract increased as the concentration increased.One of the isolated compound hyoscyamine showed the high antioxidant activity.The extract and the hyoscyamine dose-dependently decreased the cell viability in HepG2 cells.Hyoscyamine induced caspase-3 mediated apoptosis. Up regulation of p53 gene expression provides cue for apoptotic activity of hyoscyamine. 12Apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy显示文摘We describe a patient with asymptomatic apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy(AHCM)who later developed cardiac arrhythmias,and briefly discuss the diagnostic modalities,differential diagnosis and treatment option for this condition.AHCM is a rare form of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy which classically involves the apex of the left ventricle.AHCM can be an incidental finding,or patients may present with chest pain,palpitations,dyspnea,syncope,atrial fibrillation,myocardial infarction,embolic events,ventricular fibrillation and congestive heart failure.AHCM is frequently sporadic,but autosomal dominant inheritance has been reported in few families.The most frequent and classic electrocardiogram findings are giant negative T-waves in the precordial leads which are found in the majority of the patients followed by left ventricular(LV)hypertrophy.A transthoracic echocardiogram is the initial diagnostic tool in the evaluation of ACHM and shows hypertrophy of the LV apex.AHCM may mimic other conditions such as LV apical cardiac tumors,LV apical thrombus,isolated ventricular non-compaction,endomyocardial fibrosis and coronary artery disease.Other modalities,including left ventriculography,multislice spiral computed tomography,and cardiac magnetic resonance imagings are also valuable tools and are frequently used to differentiate AHCH from other conditions.Medications used to treat symptomatic patients with AHCM include verapamil,beta-blockers and antiarrhythmic agents such as amiodarone and procainamide.An implantable cardioverter defibrillator is recommended for high risk patients.Syed Wamique Yusuf Jaya D Bathina Jose Banchs Elie N Mouhayar Iyad N Daher 2011World Journal of Cardiology2011,3,7:4
13Effect of pellet die diameter on density and durability of pellets made from high moisture woody and herbaceous biomass显示文摘Densified products produced from pellet mill are commercially used as a commodity type product for energy applications that are transported nationally and internationally.The quality of the pelletized biomass produced depends on the process variables such as die diameter,length to diameter(L/D)ratio,die speed,preheating,and steam conditioning;and feedstock variables such as feedstock type,moisture content,and particle size and shape.In the present study,pelleting tests were conducted with both woody(i.e.,lodgepole pine and pinyon-juniper)and herbaceous(i.e.,corn stover,wheat straw,and energy sorghum)biomass.A high level of feedstock moisture content of 33%(w.b.)was selected,while the die speed and preheating temperature process variables were kept at 60 Hz(380 rpm)and 70C.Results indicated that during the pelleting and cooling process,an approximate 10–13%(w.b.)moisture loss in both the woody and herbaceous biomass was observed.The high moisture pellets produced were further dried in a laboratory oven at 70C for three hours to reduce the moisture content of the pellets to<10%(w.b).The dried pellets were then evaluated further for other quality attributes including unit,bulk,and tapped density;and durability.The pellets that resulted in the highest unit,bulk,and tapped densities following this process were the herbaceous biomass corn stover(e.g.,>1133,>580,>620 kg/m3)and the woody biomass lodgepole pine(e.g.,>1037,>568,>641 kg/m3),respectively.In the case of durability for the 8 mm diameter pellets,wheat straw and corn stover recorded a maximum of about 96%,respectively,while the lodgepole pine and pinion juniper recorded a maximum of>96%,respectively.Jaya Shankar Tumuluru 2018Carbon Resources Conversion2018,1,1:4
14Intestinal permeability and its association with the patient and disease characteristics in Crohn's disease显示文摘AIM:To assess the intestinal permeability (IP) in patients with Crohn's disease (CD) and study the association of IP with the patient and disease characteristics. METHODS: One hundred and twenty five consecutive patients of CD (Males: 66) were diagnosed on the basis of a combination of standard clinical, endoscopic, imaging and histological features. CD activity index (CDAI) was used to calculate the activity of the disease while the behavior of the disease was assessed by the modified Montreal classification. IP was measured by the ratio of the percentage excretion of ingested doses of lactulose and mannitol in urine (LMR). The upper limit of normality of LMR (0.037) was derived from 22 healthy controls. RESULTS: Thirty six percent of patients with CD had increased IP. There was no significant difference in mannitol excretion (patients vs controls = 12.5% vs 14.2%, P = 0.4652), but lactulose excretion was significantly higher in patients compared to healthy controls (patients vs controls = 0.326% vs 0.293%, P = 0.0391). The mean LMR was also significantly higher in the patients as compared to healthy controls [0.027 (0.0029-0.278) vs 0.0164 (0.0018-0.0548), P = 0.0044]. Male patients had a higher LMR compared to females [0.036 (95% CI 0.029, 0.046) vs 0.022 (95% CI 0.0178, 0.028) (P = 0.0024), though there was no difference in the number of patients with abnormal IP in boththe sexes. Patients with an ileo-colonic disease had a higher LMR than those with only colonic disease [0.045 (95% CI 0.033, 0.06) vs 0.021 (95% CI 0.017, 0.025) (P < 0.001)]. Of patients with ileo-colonic disease, 57.8% had an abnormal IP, compared to 26.7% with colonic and 15.6% with small intestinal disease. Patients with a stricturing disease had significantly higher LMR compared to non-fistulising non-stricturing disease [0.043 (95% CI 0.032, 0.058) vs 0.024 (95% CI 0.019, 0.029) (P = 0.0062)]. There was no correlation of IP with age, disease activity, duration of illness, D-xylose absorption, upper GI involvement, perianal disease, and extra- intestinal manifestations. On multiple regression analysis, male gender and ileo-colonic disease were independent factors associated with increased IP. Gender, location, behavior of the disease and upper GI involvement could explain up to 23% of variability in IP (R2 = 0.23). CONCLUSION: IP was increased in 36% of patients with CD. 15Congenital hyperinsulinism:Role of fluorine-18L-3, 4 hydroxyphenylalanine positron emission tomography scanning显示文摘Congenital hyperinsulinism(CHI) is a rare but complex heterogeneous disorder caused by unregulated secre-tion of insulin from the β-cells of the pancreas leading to severe hypoglycaemia and neuroglycopaenia. Swift diagnosis and institution of appropriate management is crucial to prevent or minimise adverse neurodevel-opmental outcome in children with CHI. Histologically there are two major subtypes of CHI, diffuse and focal disease and the management approach will significantly differ depending on the type of the lesion. Patients with medically unresponsive diffuse disease require a near total pancreatectomy, which then leads on to the de-velopment of iatrogenic diabetes mellitus and pancre-atic exocrine insufficiency. However patients with focaldisease only require a limited pancreatectomy to re-move only the focal lesion thus providing complete cure to the patient. Hence the preoperative differentiation of the histological subtypes of CHI becomes paramount in the management of CHI. Fluorine-18L-3, 4-hydroxy-phenylalanine positron emission tomography(18F-DOPA-PET) is now the gold standard for pre-operative differentiation of focal from diffuse disease and locali-sation of the focal lesion. 16Seismic performance of precast shear wall-slab connection under cyclic loading: experimental test vs. numerical analysis显示文摘The structural behaviour of precast shear wall-diaphragm connection was compared with the monolithic connection under seismic loading.The monolithic connection was made by using U-bars connecting shear wall and slab,and the precast connection was made by using dowel bars in two steps.Firstly,U-shaped dowel bars from the precast shear wall lower panel and precast slab were connected by the longitudinal reinforcement,and screed concreting was done above the precast slab.Secondly,the shear wall upper panel was connected using the dowel bar protruding from the shear wall lower panel.The gap between the dowel bars and the duct was filled with non-shrink grout.The specimens were subjected to reverse cyclic loading at the ends of the slab.This study also aimed to develop a 3-D numerical model using ABAQUS software.The non-linear properties of concrete were defined by using the concrete damaged plasticity(CDP)model to analyse the response of the structure.The precast dowel connection between the shear wall and slab showed superior performance concerning ductility,strength,stiffness and energy dissipation.The developed finite element model exactly predicted the behaviour of connections as similar to that of experimental testing in the laboratory.The average difference between the results from finite element analysis and experimental testing was less than 20%.The results point to the conclusion that the shear resistance is provided by the dowel bars and the stiffness of the precast specimen is due to the diaphragm action of the precast slab.The damage parameter and the interaction between structural members play a crucial role in the modelling of precast connections.Arthi S Jaya KP 2020Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2020,19,3:3
17Spinal manipulation therapy: Is it all about the brain? A current review of the neurophysiological effects of manipulation显示文摘Spinal manipulation has been an effective intervention for the management of various musculoskeletal disorders. However,the mechanisms underlying the pain modulatory effects of spinal manipulation remain elusive. Although both biomechanical and neurophysiological phenomena have been thought to play a role in the observed clinical effects of spinal manipulation, a growing number of recent studies have indicated peripheral, spinal and supraspinal mechanisms of manipulation and suggested that the improved clinical outcomes are largely of neurophysiological origin. In this article, we reviewed the relevance of various neurophysiological theories with respect to the findings of mechanistic studies that demonstrated neural responses following spinal manipulation. This article also discussed whether these neural responses are associated with the possible neurophysiological mechanisms of spinal manipulation. The body of literature reviewed herein suggested some clear neurophysiological changes following spinal manipulation, which include neural plastic changes, alteration in motor neuron excitability,increase in cortical drive and many more. However, the clinical relevance of these changes in relation to the mechanisms that underlie the effectiveness of spinal manipulation is still unclear. In addition,there were some major methodological flaws in many of the reviewed studies. 182002~2005年期间萨斯喀彻温省儿科三级医疗中心因呼吸道合胞病毒感染住院的儿童病例分析(英文)显示文摘中文概呼吸道合胞病毒(RSV)是2岁以下儿童呼吸道感染最常见的病原体,也是引起婴儿病毒感染所致死亡的主要原因。到目前为止,尚未见加拿大萨斯喀彻温省RSV流行病学的研究报道。本研究的目的是描述2002年7月至2005年6月期间在萨斯喀彻温省的两个儿科三级医疗中心,即皇家大学医院(RUH)和萨斯卡通和里贾纳总医院(RGH),因RSV感染住院的儿童的流行病学特点及疾病严重程度,其中部分患儿有帕利珠单抗(palivizumab)预防史。 在上述2个医疗中心住院时间≥24h的儿童(年龄:从出生到16岁11个月)经实验室病毒鉴定确诊为RSV感染的儿童纳入本研究。在RUH中心,患儿鼻咽部分泌物经直接荧光抗体(DFA)检测阳性者确诊为RSV感染。如果DFA为阴性,则对该标本进行病毒培养。在RGH中心,所有患儿鼻咽部分泌物标本均进行DFA检测和病毒培养。确诊后对患儿的健康记录进行回顾性分析,内容包括患儿的人口统计信息、转诊模式、帕利珠单抗预防史、感染严重程度及转归。目前尚无统一的感染严重程度的判断标准,本研究根据住院时间、是否需要小儿重症监护及持续时间、是否机械通气等进行评估。在研究期间,萨斯喀彻温省的帕利珠单抗预防的标准与加拿大儿科学会(CPS)的建议一致。 2002年7月至2005年6月3年期间,总共有590名RSV儿童(包括324名男童)住院治疗,共602次住院记录,其中12名儿童住院1次以上。入院时患儿中位实足年龄为5.3个月,平均住院时间为4.0d(范围:〈1d至121.2个月)。82.4%的患儿出生时胎龄≥36周,7.5%为33-35周,9.5%≤32周。RSV感染住院情况呈现季节性模式,其中大部分发生在三月和六月。患儿最常见的临床表现为细支气管炎(70.2%),38.1%表现为肺炎,17.3%为上呼吸道感染,0.5%表现为哮吼(患儿可能同时有1个以上的临床表现)。478例(81.0%)为RSV轻度至中度感染,110例(18.6%)为重度感染。25.1%的患儿有继发性细菌感染。共有39例(6.7%)需要入住儿科重症监护病房(PICU),中位入住时间为5.0d。其中,22例重症患儿(56%)需要机械通气(通气时间中位数6.0d),14例重症患儿(36%)有继发性细菌感染。与入住普通病房的患儿比较,PICU患儿大多有如下情况:入院时年龄较小(P〈0.01),有潜在的肺部疾病(P〈0.01)或先天性心脏疾病(P=0.01),有两个或更多潜在的疾病(P〈0.01),与其他儿童共同居住(P=0.02)。在本研究过程中,2例儿童死亡,但均与RSV感染无关。 本研究有22例患儿在入院前接受过帕利珠单抗预防RSV感染,其中18例已完成至少2个月的剂量,17例(77%)有1个或以上的慢性疾病,14例(64%)出生时胎龄不超过32周。入院时中位实足年龄为5.6个月(范围0-27.5个月),中位住院时间为9.5d(范围2-271d)。大多数儿童(17/22)为轻度至中度RSV感染。 小结:RSV在萨斯喀彻温省保持较高的发病率,男性、实足年龄小于1岁的足月儿或晚期早产儿发病率较高。细支气管炎是最常见的临床表现。大多数患儿呈轻度至中度感染,但约7%的患儿需要重症监护。较小的实足年龄、潜在的肺部或心脏疾病或多个潜在疾病等因素均有可能导致患儿需要重症监护。此外,与其他孩子同住也有可能是导致患儿需要重症监护的一个因素。需要重症监护的患儿往往胎龄大于35周。虽然部分接受过帕利珠单抗预防的患儿也感染了RSV,但是其大部分患儿的病情为轻度至中度。这些曾接受过帕利珠单抗预防的患儿更可能有潜在疾病,并且出生时胎龄往往小于32周。在本研究中,无一例因RSV感染而引起的死亡病例。本研究尚浅,需要开展更深入的研究,以进一步确定RSV患儿,特别是PICU患儿以及曾接受过帕利珠单抗预防却仍然受到RSV感染的患儿的特征。Ayisha Kurji Ben Tan Jaya Bodani Bonnie Janzen Athena McConnell Rachana Bodani Derek Rajakumar Anil Sharma Koravangattu Sankaran 2014中国当代儿科杂志2014,16,10:3
