1Anti-oxidation actions of curcumin in two forms of bed rest:oxidative stress serum and salivary markers显示文摘Objective:To determine the preventive effects of curcumin on peroxidative damage under two bed rest conditions.Methods:20 healthy male(10 with curcumin and 10 without curcumin ) volunteers were selected.They were studied before,during,and just on bed rest conditions at -6°head-down-tilt(HDT) bed rest and bed rest position(BD) for 10 days.We measured the salivary and serum oxidative markers such as Malonaldehyde,8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine, vitamin C and E just before HDT & BD.during HDT & BD experiment,and in course time of recovery with curcumin and without curcumin groups.Results:The values of serum and salivary vitamin C & E showed statistically significant decrease in both bed rest conditions as compared to those of the conditions before and during the recovery stage.However,these levels were not significantly lowered in curcumin groups in contrast to the groups without curcumin (P>0.05).MDA and 8-OHdG levels showed significant increase in simulating microgravity and zero gravity conditions as compared to those before and in the recovery stage.However,these levels were lower in curcumin groups in contrast to the groups without curcumin(P<0.05).Serum and salivary correlation analysis revealed a strong and highly significant correlation for MDA. vitamin C & E and 8 dihydro-2 deoxyguanosine(8-OHdG) in the conditions before,during and in the recovery periods in both bed rest conditions.Since saliva collection is easy and noninvasive, measurements of salivary marker levels may prove to be useful in the space research. 3Larvicidal and irritant activities of hexane leaf extracts of Citrus sinensis against dengue vector Aedes aegypti L.显示文摘Objective:To assess the larvicidal and irritant activities of the hexane extracts of leaves of Citrus sinensis(C.sinensis)against the early fourth instars and female adults of Aedes aegypti(Ae.aegypti).Methods:The larvicidal potential of the prepared leaf extract was evaluated against early fourth instar larvae of Ae.aegypli using WHO protocol.The mortality counts were made after 24 h and LC_(50)and LG_(50)values were calculated.The efficacy of extract as mosquito irritant was assessed by contact irritancy assays.Extract-impregnated paper was placed on a glass plate over which a perspex funnel with a hole on the top was kept inverted.Single female adult,3-day old unfed/blood-fed,was released inside the funnel.After 3 min of acclimatization time,the time taken for the first take-off and total number of flights undertaken during 15 min were scored.Results:The citrus leaf extracts from hexane possessed moderate larvicidal efficiency against dengue vector.The bioassays resulted in an LC_(50)and LC_(90)value of 446.84 and 1370.96 ppm,respectively after 24 h of exposure.However,the extracts were proved to be remarkable irritant against adults Ae.aegypti,more pronounced effects being observed on blood-fed females than unfed females.The extract-impregnated paper was thus proved to be 7-11 times more irritable as compared with the control paper.Conclusions:The hexane extracts from C.sinensis leaves are proved to be reasonably larvicidal But remarkably irritant against dengue vector.Further studies are needed to identify the possible role of extract as adulticide,oviposition deterrent and ovicidal agent.The isolation of active ingredient from the extract could help in formulating strategies for mosquito control.Radhika Warikoo Ankita Ray Jasdeep Kaur Sandhu Roopa Sanial Naim Wahab Sarita Kumar 2012Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,2:2

20An Acoustic Analysis of Fluctuations for Inter-and Intra-Speaker Variability in Speech Sounds显示文摘Background:Variation in the speech of speakers is a crucial issue for the forensic system.The main reason behind incorrect speaker identification is greater intra-speaker fluctuation.In the forensic state of play,a lot of research has been carried out on speaker identification.However inter variations and intra fluctuations in speakers for the Punjabi language is still a grey area.Aims and Objectives:Our aim is to study acoustic analysis of fluctuations for inter and intra speaker variability in speech sounds.In our study,we will consider Punjabi vowel with consonants.The Statistical methods will be applied to analyze the data;firstly,the Shapiro-Wilk test will be checked for normality and then Levene’s Test to assess the equality of variances.Materials and Method:Five vowels were selected with different consonants.They were combined to make meaningful words.Then these meaningful words were embedded in sentences.Ten speakers participated voluntarily.All are students of A.S College at Khanna in Punjab.The individuals were aged between 20-22 years with no hearing or speech disorder.The voice samples were recorded with help of good quality microphone and by Goldwave software in the sound proof lab.Samples were introduced directly into PRAAT software by the use of a Sony microphone and with sampling rate of 44100 Hz frequency.Acoustic Analysis has been done with help of Goldwave software in form of spectrograms.Results and Conclusion:Each formant shows a different value for inter variations and inter speaker fluctuations.F1 and F2 shows lesser speaker variation than the high-frequency region in F3 and F4,so we can say that in comparison with the lower part,high-frequency regions are more valuable.The assumptions for TWO-WAY ANOVA is violated and hence,we have used the non-parametric Friedman Test and performed its Post hoc analysis.From Posthoc analysis,we can say that F1 and F2(p>0.05)and F2 and F3(p>0.05)gave the same type of results.Hence,from the results of these statistical tests,we can conclude that F1 is recommended over F2,F3,and F4.As the frequency of F1 is high as well as in line with the results of statistical tests.Because we prefer more variation among frequencies so that we can easily distinguish different speakers and it would be more beneficial for inter variations and intra fluctuations.Jasdeep Kaur Kailash Chandra Juglan Kush Sharma Vishal Sharma 2023Journal of Forensic Science and Medicine2023,9,1:0
