1Attenuation of rock blasting induced ground vibration in rock-soil interface显示文摘Blasting has been widely used in mining and construction industries for rock breaking.This paper presents the results of a series of field tests conducted to investigate the ground wave propagation through mixed geological media.The tests were conducted at a site in the northwestern part of Singapore composed of residual soil and granitic rock.The field test aims to provide measurement data to better understand the stress wave propagation in soil/rock and along their interface.Triaxial accelerometers were used for the free field vibration monitoring.The measured results are presented and discussed,and empirical formulae for predicting peak particle velocity (PPV) attenuation along the ground surface and in soil/rock were derived from the measured data.Also,the ground vibration attenuation across the soil-rock interface was carefully examined,and it was found that the PPV of ground vibration was decreased by 37.2% when it travels from rock to soil in the vertical direction.Bhagya Jayasinghe Zhiye Zhao Anthony Goh Teck Chee Hongyuan Zhou Yilin Gui 2019Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2019,11,4:7

3Pancreatic cancer serum biomarker PC-594:Diagnostic performance and comparison to CA19-9显示文摘AIM:To investigate serum PC-594 fatty acid levels as a potential biomarker in North American pancreatic cancer(PaC) patients,and to compare its performance to CA19-9.METHODS:Using tandem mass spectrometry,we evaluated serum PC-594 levels from 84 North American patients with confirmed PaC and 99 cancer-free control subjects.We determined CA19-9 levels by ELISA.Significance between Pa C patients and controls,and association with clinical variables was determined by analysis of variance and t-tests.Diagnostic performance was evaluated by receiver-operator characteristic(ROC)curve analysis,and PC-594 correlation with age and CA19-9 determined by regression analysis.RESULTS:Mean PC-594 levels were 3.7 times lower in Pa C patients compared to controls(P < 0.0001).The mean level in PaC patient serum was 0.76 ± 0.07 μmol/L,and the mean level in control subjects was 2.79 ± 0.15 μmol/L.There was no correlation between PC-594 and age,disease stage or gender(P > 0.05).Using 1.25 μmol/L as a PC-594 threshold produced a relative risk(RR) of 9.4(P < 0.0001,95%CI:5.0-17.7).The area under the receiver-operator characteristic curve(ROCAUC) was 0.93(95%CI:0.91-0.95) for PC-594 and 0.85(95%CI:0.82-0.88) for CA19-9.Sensitivity at 90% specificity was 87% for PC-594 and 71% for CA19-9.Six Pa C patients with CA19-9 above 35 U/m L showed normal PC-594 levels,while 24 Pa C patients with normal CA19-9 showed low PC-594 levels.Eighty-five of the 99 control subjects(86%) showed normal levels of both markers.CONCLUSION:PC-594 biomarker levels are significantly reduced in North American Pa C patients,and showed superior diagnostic performance compared to CA19-9.Shawn A Ritchie Bassirou Chitou Qingan Zheng Dushmanthi Jayasinghe Wei Jin Asuka Mochizuki Dayan B Goodenowe 2015World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,21:3
4Calcium Glucarate Prevents Tumor Formation in Mouse Skin显示文摘Objective Calcium Glucarate (Cag), Ca salt of D-glucaric acid is a naturally occurring non-toxic compound present in fruits, vegetables and seeds of some plants, and suppress tumor growth in different models. Due to lack of knowledge about its mode of action its uses are limited in cancer chemotherapy thus the objective of the study was to study the mechanism of action of Cag on mouse skin tumorigenesis. Methods We have estimated effect of Cag on DMBA induced mouse skin tumor development following complete carcinogenesis protocol. We measured, epidermal transglutaminase activity (TG), a marker of cell differentiation after DMBA and/or Cag treatment and [3H] thymidine incorporation into DNA as a marker for cell proliferation. Results Topical application of Cag suppressed the DMBA induced mouse skin tumor development. Topical application of Cag significantly modifies the critical events of proliferation and differentiation TG activity was found to be reduced after DMBA treatment. Reduction of the TG activity was dependent on the dose of DMBA and duration of DMBA exposure. Topical application of Cag significantly alleviated DMBA induced inhibition of TG. DMBA also caused stimulation of DNA synthesis in epidermis, which was inhibited by Cag. Conclusion Cag inhibits DMBA induced mouse skin tumor development. Since stimulation of DNA synthesis reflects proliferation and induction of TG represents differentiation, the antitumorigenic effect of Cag is considered to be possibly due to stimulation of differentiation and suppression of proliferation.JAYASINGH KRISHNAP.GUPTA 2003Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2003,16,1:2
