Flow of a biomagnetic viscoelastic fluid:application to estimation of blood flow in arteries during electromagnetic hyperthermia,a therapeutic procedure for cancer treatment显示文摘The paper deals with the theoretical investigation of a fundamental problem of biomagnetic fluid flow through a porous medium subject to a magnetic field by using the principles of biomagnetic fluid dynamics (BFD).The study pertains to a situation where magnetization of the fluid varies with temperature. The fluid is considered to be non-Newtonian,whose flow is governed by the equation of a second-grade viscoelastic fluid. The walls of the channel are assumed to be stretchable, where the surface velocity is proportional to the longitudinal distance from the origin of coordinates. The problem is first reduced to solving a system of coupled nonlinear differential equations involving seven parameters.Considering blood as a biomagnetic fluid and using the present analysis,an attempt is made to compute some parameters of the blood flow by developing a suitable numerical method and by devising an appropriate finite difference scheme. The computational results are presented in graphical form, and thereby some theoretical predictions are made with respect to the hemodynamical flow of the blood in a hyperthermal state under the action of a magnetic field. The results clearly indicate that the presence of a magnetic dipole bears the potential so as to affect the characteristics of the blood flow in arteries to a significant extent during the therapeutic procedure of electromagnetic hyperthermia. The study will attract the attention of clinicians,to whom the results would be useful in the treatment of cancer patients by the method of electromagnetic hyperthermia. | J.C.MISRA A.SINHA G.C.SHIT | 2010 | Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2010,31,11: | 3
Peristaltic transport of rheological fluid:model for movement of food bolus through esophagus显示文摘Fluid mechanical peristaltic transport through esophagus is studied in the paper.A mathematical model has been developed to study the peristaltic transport of a rheological fluid for arbitrary wave shapes and tube lengths. The Ostwald-de Waele power law of a viscous fluid is considered here to depict the non-Newtonian behaviour of the fluid. The model is formulated and analyzed specifically to explore some important information concerning the movement of food bolus through esophagus. The analysis is carried out by using the lubrication theory. The study is particularly suitable for the cases where the Reynolds number is small. The esophagus is treated as a circular tube through which the transport of food bolus takes place by periodic contraction of the esophageal wall.Variation of different variables concerned with the transport phenomena such as pressure, flow velocities, particle trajectory, and reflux is investigated for a single wave as well as a train of periodic peristaltic waves. The locally variable pressure is seen to be highly sensitive to the flow index 'n'.The study clearly shows that continuous fluid transport for Newtonian/rheological fluids by wave train propagation is more effective than widely spaced single wave propagation in the case of peristaltic movement of food bolus in the esophagus. | J.C.MISRA S.MAITI | 2012 | Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2012,33,3: | 3
Numerical study of flow and heat transfer during oscillatory blood flow in diseased arteries in presence of magnetic fields显示文摘A problem motivated by the investigation of the heat and mass transfer in the unsteady magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) flow of blood through a vessel is solved numerically when the lumen of the vessel has turned into the porous structure. The time-dependent permeability and the oscillatory suction velocity are considered. The computational results are presented graphically for the velocity, the temperature, and the concentration fields for various values of skin friction coefficients,Nusselt numbers, and Sherwood numbers. The study reveals that the flow is appreciably influenced by the presence of a magnetic field and also by the value of the Grashof number. | A.SINHA J.C.MISRA | 2012 | Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2012,33,5: | 2
Electroosmotic oscillatory flow of micropolar fluid in microchannels:application to dynamics of blood flow in microfluidic devices显示文摘The electroosmotic flow of a micropolar fluid in a microchannel bounded by two parallel porous plates undergoing periodic vibration is studied. The equations for conservation of linear and angular momentums and Gauss' s law of charge distribution are solved within the framework of the Debye-H¨uckel approximation. The fluid velocity and microrotation are assumed to depend linearly on the Reynolds number. The study shows that the amplitude of microrotation is highly sensitive to the changes in the magnitude of the suction velocity and the width of the microchannel. An increase in the micropolar parameter gives rise to a decrease in the amplitude of microrotation. Numerical estimates reveal that the microrotation of the suspended microelements in blood also plays an important role in controlling the electro-osmotically actuated flow dynamics in microbio-fluidic devices. | J.C.MISRA S.CHANDRA G.C.SHIT P.K.KUNDU | 2014 | Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2014,35,6: | 2
Three-dimensional biomagnetic Maxwell fluid flow over a stretching surface in presence of heat source/sink显示文摘The present paper deals with the study of three-dimensional boundary layer flow of biomagnetic Maxwell fluid over a plane horizontal surface stretched linearly along two mutually perpendicular directions. Basic principles of magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) and ferro-hydrodynamics (FHD) have been employed. The effect of heat generation/absorption has been taken into consideration. The study is theoretical and is conducted by using a combination of approximate and numerical techniques. By using the method of similarity transformation, the governing nonlinear partial differential equations are converted into a set of coupled ordinary differential equations. In the sequel, a suitable numerical method has been developed to solve the coupled differential equations. The accuracy of the numerical method has been checked by comparing the numerical results with those of an earlier study reported in available literatures. Effects of various parameters involved in the study, viz. the magnetohydrodynamic and ferromagnetic parameters, Deborah number, stretching ratio and heat generation on the fluid flow profiles are investigated and the results have been presented graphically. Variations of the skin friction, heat transfer rate and relative wall pressure with change in hydrodynamic and ferromagnetic parameters have also been illustrated. It is found that due to the influence of the Kelvin force, the velocity component in xx-direction is greater than the corresponding one in the hydrodynamic case, but the opposite is true for the velocity component in the yy-direction. We also found that the temperature of the fluid for hydrodynamic flow is greater than that for MHD or FHD flow. It is even greater for BFD flows. The numerical results of the study reveal that the characteristics of blood flow are significantly affected by the presence of a magnetic field. | M.G.Murtaza M.Ferdows J.C.Misra E.E.Tzirtzilakis | 2019 | International Journal of Biomathematics2019,12,3: | 0
Influence of Hall current and Joule heating on entropy generation during electrokinetically induced thermoradiative transport of nanofluids in a porous microchannel显示文摘A comprehensive theoretical study of entropy generation during electroki-netically driven transport of a nanofluid is of prime concern in the paper. The flow is considered to take place on a wavy channel under the action of an external transverse magnetic field and an external pressure gradient. Navier slips at the walls of the channel and thermal radiation have been taken into account in the study. The theoretical study has been carried out by developing a mathematical model by taking into account the effects of Joule heating, viscous dissipation, and the transverse magnetic field on heat transfer during the electrokinetic transport of the fluid. The derived analytical expres-sions have been computed numerically by considering the nanofluid as a mixture of blood and ferromagnetic nanoparticles. Variations in velocity, streaming potential, temperature distribution, Nusselt number, and Bejan number associated with the electrokinetic flow in capillaries have been investigated by the parametric variation method. The results have been presented graphically. The present investigation reveals that streaming potential decreases due to the Hall effect, while for the cooling capacity of the microsystem, we find an opposite behavior due to the Hall effect. The study further reveals that the fluidic temperature is reduced due to increase in the Hall current, and thereby thermal irreversibility of the system is reduced significantly. The results presented here can be considered as the approximate estimates of blood flow dynamics in capillaries during chemotherapy in cancer treatment. | B.MALLICK J.C.MISRA A.R.CHOWDHURY | 2019 | Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2019,40,10: | 0
