2Practical configured microtremor array measurements(MAMs)for the geological investigation of underground space显示文摘Underground space utilization is becoming increasingly essential for modern metropolitan cities such as Singapore.Mapping a soil/rock interface using traditional borehole investigation methods is expensive and difficult, owing to the numerous physical constraints within a built-up city.Boreholes are often far apart, resulting in many unforeseen ground conditions during subsequent excavation.Geophysical methods are sometimes employed as possible alternatives for fast, economical, and efficient bedrock surveys. The goal of this study is to investigate the practical details of applying microtremor array measurement(MAM)as a non-invasive surface wave survey for mapping soil/rock interfaces in Singapore.Critical configurations in field data acquisition are examined, and practical recommendations for array construction are provided. In addition,30 in situ MAM tests are carried out for two major geological formations in Singapore. From the results,a standard shear wave velocity(V_(s))of 500 m/s is found to be suitable for interpreting the soil/rock interface, for the Bukit Timah Granite and Jurong formations. However, the method does not predict well when soft Kallang formation deposits are present.Other limitations are also discussed in the later parts of this paper. Conclusions and practical recommendations are discussed, providing constructive guidance to the industry. The proposed Vs-based method and associated guidelines and limitations can be used to create a digital geological database and are especially useful for rock profiling in an urban environment.Taeseo Ku Subramaniam Palanidoss Yunhuo Zhang Sung-Woo Moon Xiao Wei Ean Seong Huang Jeyatharan Kumarasamy Kok Hun Goh 2021Underground Space2021,6,3:1

4A micropore array-based solid lift-off method for highly efficient and controllable cell alignment and spreading显示文摘Interpretation of cell–cell and cell-microenvironment interactions is critical for both advancing knowledge of basic biology and promoting applications of regenerative medicine.Cell patterning has been widely investigated in previous studies. However, the reported methods cannot simultaneously realize precise control of cell alignment and adhesion/spreading with a high efficiency at a high throughput. Here,a novel solid lift-off method with a micropore array as a shadow mask was proposed.Efficient and precise control of cell alignment and adhesion/spreading are simultaneously achieved via an ingeniously designed shadow mask, which contains large micropores(capture pores)in central areas and small micropores(spreading pores)in surrounding areas contributing to capture/alignment and adhesion/spreading control, respectively. The solid lift-off functions as follows:(1)protein micropattern generates through both the capture and spreading pores,(2)cell capture/alignment control is realized through the capture pores,and(3)cell adhesion/spreading is controlled through previously generated protein micropatterns after lift-off of the shadow mask.High-throughput(2.4–3.2×10^(4) cells/cm 2)cell alignments were achieved with high efficiencies(86.2±3.2%,56.7±9.4%and 51.1±4.0%for single-cell,double-cell,and triple-cell alignments, respectively).Precise control of cell spreading and applications for regulating cell skeletons and cell–cell junctions were investigated and verified using murine skeletal muscle myoblasts. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report to demonstrate highly efficient and controllable multicell alignment and adhesion/spreading simultaneously via a simple solid lift-off operation. This study successfully fills a gap in literatures and promotes the effective and reproducible application of cell patterning in the fields of both basic mechanism studies and applied medicine.Tingting Hun Yaoping Liu Yechang Guo Yan Sun Yubo Fan Wei Wang 2020Microsystems & Nanoengineering2020,6,1:1
5Acute hospital-community hospital care bundle for elderly orthopedic surgery patients:A propensity score-matched economic analysis显示文摘BACKGROUND While Singapore attains good health outcomes,Singapore’s healthcare system is confronted with bed shortages and prolonged stays for elderly people recovering from surgery in acute hospitals. An Acute Hospital-Community Hospital(AHCH)care bundle has been developed to assist patients in postoperative rehabilitation. The core concept is to transfer patients out of AHs when clinically recommended and into CHs,where they can receive more beneficial dedicated care to aid in their recovery, while freeing up bed capacities in AHs.AIM To analyze the AH length of stay(LOS),costs, and savings associated with the AH-CH care bundle intervention initiated and implemented in elderly patients aged 75 years and above undergoing elective orthopedic surgery.METHODS A total of 8621:1 propensity score-matched patients aged 75 years and above who underwent elective orthopedic surgery in Singapore General Hospital(SGH)before(2017-2018)and after(2019-2021)the care bundle intervention period was analyzed.Outcome measures were AH LOS,CH LOS,hospitalization metrics, postoperative 30-d mortality, and modified Barthel Index(MBI)scores. The costs of AH inpatient hospital stay in the matched cohorts were compared using cost data in Singapore dollars.RESULTS Of the 862 matched elderly patients undergoing elective orthopedic surgery before and after the care bundle intervention, the age distribution, sex,American Society of Anesthesiologists classification,Charlson Comorbidity Index, and surgical approach were comparable between both groups.Patients transferred to CHs after the surgery had a shorter median AH LOS(7 d vs 9 d,P<0.001).The mean total AH inpatient cost per patient was 14.9%less for the elderly group transferred to CHs(S$24497.3 vs S$28772.8,P<0.001).The overall AH U-turn rates for elderly patients within the care bundle were low, with a 0%mortality rate following orthopedic surgery. When elderly patients were discharged from CHs,their MBI scores increased significantly(50.9 vs 71.9,P<0.001).CONCLUSION The AH-CH care bundle initiated and implemented in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery appears to be effective and cost-saving for SGH.Our results indicate that transitioning care between acute and community hospitals using this care bundle effectively reduces AH LOS in elderly patients receiving orthopedic surgery.Collaboration between acute and community care providers can assist in closing the care delivery gap and enhancing service quality.Ivan En-Howe Tan Aik Yong Chok Yun Zhao Yonghui Chen Chee Hoe Koo Junjie Aw Mave Hean Teng Soh Chek Hun Foo Kwok Ann Ang Emile John Kwong Wei Tan Andrew Hwee Chye Tan Marianne Kit Har Au 2023World Journal of Orthopedics2023,14,4:0
