2Nano-Graphene Oxide for Cellular Imaging and Drug Delivery显示文摘Two-dimensional graphene offers interesting electronic,thermal,and mechanical properties that are currently being explored for advanced electronics,membranes,and composites.Here we synthesize and explore the biological applications of nano-graphene oxide(NGO),i.e.,single-layer graphene oxide sheets down to a few nanometers in lateral width.We develop functionalization chemistry in order to impart solubility and compatibility of NGO in biological environments.We obtain size separated pegylated NGO sheets that are soluble in buffers and serum without agglomeration.The NGO sheets are found to be photoluminescent in the visible and infrared regions.The intrinsic photoluminescence(PL)of NGO is used for live cell imaging in the near-infrared(NIR)with little background.We found that simple physisorption viaπ-stacking can be used for loading doxorubicin,a widely used cancer drug onto NGO functionalized with antibody for selective killing of cancer cells in vitro.Owing to its small size,intrinsic optical properties,large specifi c surface area,low cost,and useful non-covalent interactions with aromatic drug molecules,NGO is a promising new material for biological and medical applications.Xiaoming Sun Zhuang Liu Kevin Welsher Joshua Tucker Robinson Andrew Goodwin Sasa Zaric Hongjie Dai 2008Nano Research2008,1,3:118

4TiO_(2) Nanocrystals Grown on Graphene as Advanced Photocatalytic Hybrid Materials显示文摘A graphene/TiO_(2) nanocrystals hybrid has been successfully prepared by directly growing TiO_(2) nanocrystals on graphene oxide(GO)sheets.The direct growth of the nanocrystals on GO sheets was achieved by a two-step method,in which TiO_(2) was first coated on GO sheets by hydrolysis and crystallized into anatase nanocrystals by hydrothermal treatment in the second step.Slow hydrolysis induced by the use of EtOH/H2O mixed solvent and addition of H2SO4 facilitates the selective growth of TiO_(2) on GO and suppresses growth of free TiO_(2) in solution.The method offers easy access to the GO/TiO_(2) nanocrystals hybrid with a uniform coating and strong interactions between TiO_(2) and the underlying GO sheets.The strong coupling gives advanced hybrid materials with various applications including photocatalysis.The prepared graphene/TiO_(2) nanocrystals hybrid has superior photocatalytic activity to other TiO_(2) materials in the degradation of rhodamine B,showing an impressive three-fold photocatalytic enhancement over P25.It is expected that the hybrid material could also be promising for various other applications including lithium ion batteries,where strong electrical coupling to TiO_(2) nanoparticles is essential.Yongye Liang Hailiang Wang Hernan Sanchez Casalongue Zhuo Chen Hongjie Dai 2010Nano Research2010,3,10:57

6Carbon Nanotubes in Biology and Medicine:In vitro and in vivo Detection,Imaging and Drug Delivery显示文摘Carbon nanotubes exhibit many unique intrinsic physical and chemical properties and have been intensively explored for biological and biomedical applications in the past few years.In this comprehensive review,we summarize the main results from our and other groups in this field and clarify that surface functionalization is critical to the behavior of carbon nanotubes in biological systems.Ultrasensitive detection of biological species with carbon nanotubes can be realized after surface passivation to inhibit the non-specific binding of biomolecules on the hydrophobic nanotube surface.Electrical nanosensors based on nanotubes provide a label-free approach to biological detection.Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy of carbon nanotubes opens up a method of protein microarray with detection sensitivity down to 1 fmol/L.In vitro and in vivo toxicity studies reveal that highly water soluble and serum stable nanotubes are biocompatible,nontoxic,and potentially useful for biomedical applications.In vivo biodistributions vary with the functionalization and possibly also size of nanotubes,with a tendency to accumulate in the reticuloendothelial system(RES),including the liver and spleen,after intravenous administration.If well functionalized,nanotubes may be excreted mainly through the biliary pathway in feces.Carbon nanotube-based drug delivery has shown promise in various In vitro and in vivo experiments including delivery of small interfering RNA(siRNA),paclitaxel and doxorubicin.Moreover,single-walled carbon nanotubes with various interesting intrinsic optical properties have been used as novel photoluminescence,Raman,and photoacoustic contrast agents for imaging of cells and animals.Further multidisciplinary explorations in this field may bring new opportunities in the realm of biomedicine.Zhuang Liu Scott Tabakman Kevin Welsher Hongjie Dai 2009Nano Research2009,2,2:50
7Thinopyrum ponticum and Th. intermedium: the promising source of resistance to fungal and viral diseases of wheat显示文摘Thinopyrum ponticum and Th. intermedium provide superior resistance against various diseases in wheat (Ttricum aestivum). Because of their readily crossing with wheat, many genes for disease resistance have been introduced from the wheatgrasses into wheat. Genes for resistance to leaf rust, stem rust, powdery mildew, Barley yellow dwarf virus, Wheat streak mosaic virus, and its vector, the wheat curl mite, have been transferred into wheat by producing chromosome translocations. These genes offer an opportunity to improve resistance of wheat to the diseases; some of them have been extensively used in protecting wheat from damage of the diseases. Moreover, new resistance to diseases is continuously detected in the progenies of wheat-Thinopyrum derivatives. 11Lakes' state and abundance across the Tibetan Plateau显示文摘Understanding the changes in number and areal extent of lakes,as well as their abundance and size distribution is important for assessments of regional and global water resources,biogeochemical cycles,and changes in climate.In this study,changes in lake area greater than 1 km2are mapped using Landsat datasets,spanning the 1970s,1990,2000,and 2010.In addition,high-resolution images(GeoCover Landsat mosaic 2000,with a pixel size of 14.25 m)are used for the first time to map lakes as small as 0.001 km2across the entire Tibetan Plateau(TP).Results show that the numbers and areal extent of individual lakes[1 km2in size show a slight decrease between the 1970s and 1990,followed by a clear increase from 1990 to 2010.Ninety-nine new lakes are identified between the 1970s and 2010,71 of which are found between 1990 and 2010.This indicates the accelerated glacier melt and/or increased difference of precipitation minus evaporation since the 1990s.More than 80%of the lakes show an increase in their area between the 1970s and2010.The lake census,using 2000 imagery,shows that there are 32,843 lakes with a total area of 43,151.08±411.49 km2,which makes up 1.4%of the total area of the TP.Around 96%of all lakes are small,with an area\1 km2,while the 1,204 large lakes([1 km2)account for96%of the total lake area.The TP is subdivided into 12greater drainage basins,and of these the inner TP dominates in terms of the number of lakes(55.03%),the total area of lakes(66%),and lake density(0.026/km2compared to the mean,0.011/km2).A plot of lake abundance against size shows that the size distribution of lakes departs from a typical power-law distribution,but displays such a distribution at the mean elevation(4,715 m),with an r2value of 0.97 and a slope of-0.66.The slopes of the abundance-size equations from each of the 12 greater basins,and from all basins together,are larger than-1,supporting the inference that larger lakes,rather than the small lakes,contribute more to the total lake surface area across the TP.The lake inventory provided in this study,along with the assessment of lake size distribution,have important implications for estimates of water balance,for water resource management,and for lake area estimations in the TP.Guoqing Zhang Tong Yao Hongjie Xie Kexiang Zhang Fujing Zhu 2014Chinese Science Bulletin2014,59,24:33
12Analysis of metastasis suppressing function of E-cadherin in gastric cancer cells by RNAi显示文摘AIM: To study the effect of inhibited E-cadherin expression on invasion of cancer cells.METHODS: We designed the nucleotide sequence of siRNA corresponding to 5' non-coding and coding sequence of E-cadherin. 21-nucleotide dssiRNA was synthesized by in vitro transcription with Ambion Silencer TM siRNA Construction Kit. siRNA was transfected into gastric cancer MKN45 using TransMessenger transfection Kit. RT-PCR and immunofluorescent assay were used to investigate the inhibition of the expression of mutated Ecadherin. Invasive ability of cancer cells was determined by Transwell assay.RESULTS: The synthesis of E-cadherin mRNA rather than protein expression was suppressed dramatically 7 d after interference. Decreased protein expression was observed on d 10 after interference. On d 11, invasion ability was enhanced significantly.CONCLUSION: siRNA targeted at non-coding and coding sequence of E-cadherin showed significant inhibition on mRNA and protein expression. 15A preventive control strategy for static voltage stability based on an efficient power plant model of electric vehicles显示文摘With the increasing integration of wind farms and electric vehicles(EVs)in power systems,voltage stability is becoming more and more serious.Based on vehicle-to-grid(V2G),an efficient power plant model of EVs(E-EPP)was developed to estimate EV charging load with available corresponding response capacity under different charging strategies.A preventive control strategy based on E-EPP was proposed to maintain the static voltage stability margin(VSM)of power system above a predefined security level.Two control modes were used including the disconnection of EV charging load(‘V1G’mode)and the discharge of stored battery energy back to power grid(‘V2G’mode).A modified IEEE 14-bus system with high penetration of wind power and EVs was used to verify the effectiveness of preventive control strategy.Simulation results showed that the proposed strategy can not only improve the static voltage stability of power system with considerable wind generation,but also guarantee the travelling comfort for EV owners.Mingshen WANG Yunfei MU Hongjie JIA Jianzhong WU Xiuping YAO Xiaodan YU Janaka EKANAYAKE 2015Journal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy2015,3,1:25
16Active power regulation of wind power systems through demand response显示文摘With the specific characteristics of low-carbon intensity and economy,wind power has been widely promoted around the world.Due to the variable and intermittent nature of wind power production,the system has to frequently redispatch generators in order to ensure the effective use of wind power whilst maintaining system security.In this way,traditional generation costs are increased and the social benefit of wind power decreases indirectly.In this paper,a new regulation strategy based on power flow tracing was proposed,taking advantage of a comfort-constrained demand response strategy to follow the fluctuations of wind farm output,with the remaining imbalance of active power compensated by traditional generators.Examples showed that compared with conventional regulation,demand response could reduce the gross operating costs of the system,and the rapid response could help maintaining system stability in case of contingency.The strategy in this paper also applies to other large-scale integration problems associated with renewable energy resources which display short-term production variability.MIAO WeiWei JIA HongJie WANG Dan PARKINSON Simon CRAWFORD Curran DJILALI Ned 2012Science China(Technological Sciences)2012,55,6:24
17Changes in global potential vegetation distributions from 1911 to 2000 as simulated by the Comprehensive Sequential Classification System approach显示文摘Vegetation classification models play an important role in studying the response of the terrestrial ecosystem to global climate change. In this paper, we study changes in global Potential Natural Vegetation (PNV) distributions using the Comprehensive Sequential Classification System (CSCS) approach, a technique that combines geographic information systems. Results indicate that on a global scale there are good agreements among maps produced by the CSCS method and the globally well-accepted Holdridge Life Zone (HLZ) and BIOME4 PNV models. The potential vegetation simulated by the CSCS approach has 6 major latitudinal zones in the northern hemisphere and 2 in the southern hemisphere. In mountainous areas it has obvious altitudinal distribution characteristics due to topographic effects. The distribution extent for different PNV classes at various periods has different characteristics. It had a decreasing trend for the tundra and alpine steppe, desert, sub-tropical forest and tropical forest categories, and an increasing trend for the temperate forest and grassland vegetation categories. The simulation of global CSCS-based PNV classes helps to understand climate-vegetation relationships and reveals the dynamics of potential vegetation distributions induced by global changes. 19SHRIMP U-Pb zircon dating of the Ordos Basin basement and its tectonic significance显示文摘SHRIMP U-Pb zircon 207 Pb/206 Pb ages were obtained from two drill cores from the basement of the Ordos Basin.A garnet-sillimanite-biotite-plagioclase gneiss(QI1-1) from the western Ordos Basin basement yielded an average age of 2031 10 Ma.Based on the mineral assemblages,the source material of the gneiss is speculated to be pelitic-felsic system.A gneissic two-mica granite(Long1-1) from the eastern Ordos Basin basement yielded an average age of 2035 10 Ma.The zircons from both samples exhibit magmatic growth pattern.The shapes of the zircons suggest that the zircons should crystallize from a granitic of felsic volcanic terrain.The ages and the characters of zircons are consisitent with the other researches in the Ordos Basin and indicate that the basement of the Ordos Basin had experienced an intensive magmatic epsode during the late Paleoproterozoic period.The date from this study suggest the possible existences of a Paleoproterozoic mobile tectonic belt in the region.The reconstruction of such a belt is critical for understanding the tectonomagmatic evolution of the western block of the North China Craton.HU JianMin LIU XinShe LI ZhenHong ZHAO Yue ZHANG ShuanHong LIU XiaoChun QU HongJie CHEN Hong 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,1:21
20Frequency response of autonomous microgrid based on family-friendly controllable loads显示文摘Frequency is a key issue for the stable operation of autonomous microgrid(AMG) with a large penetration of intermittent renewable energy resources.The fast development of demand-side response technology provides a new solution for the frequency control of the AMG.In this paper,a novel decentralized demand control strategy(DDC) for family-friendly controllable refrigerators considering customer comfort level is proposed to regulate the frequency of AMG in coordination with the energy storage system(ESS).The refrigerator under DDC responds to the local frequency signals quickly and adjusts its operation cycle dynamically.Meanwhile,a customer participation degree which is proportional to the frequency deviation is introduced to evaluate the customer comforts when responding to the frequency of AMG.Finally,a benchmark low voltage AMG is established as a test system to verify the effectiveness of the proposed DDC strategy.Simulation results show that the DDC strategy can not only improve the frequency control effect of AMG effectively but also guarantee the customer comforts as well as reduce the capacity of ESS.JIA HongJie QI Yan MU YunFei 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,7:21
