1Expression of bcI-2 gene family during resection induced liver regeneration:Comparison between hepatectomized and sham groups显示文摘AIM:During liver regeneration cellular proliferation and apoptosis result in tissue remodeling to restore normal hepatic mass and structure.Main regulators of the apoptotic machinery are the Bcl-2 family proteins but their roles are not well defined throughout the liver regeneration.We aimed to analyze the expression levels of bcl-2 gene family members during resection induced liver regeneration.METHODS:We performed semi-quantitative RT-PCR to examine the expression level of bak, bax, bcl-2 and bcl-XL in 70% hepatectomized rat livers during the whole regeneration process and compared to that of the sham and normal groups.RESULTS:The expression of bak and baxwas decreased whereas that of bcl-2 and bcl-XL was increased in hepatectomized animals compared to normal liver at most time points.We also reported for the first time that sham group of animals had statistically significant higher expression of bak and bax than hepatectomized animals.In addition, the area under the curve (AUC) values of these genes was larger in sham groups than the hepatectomized groups.CONCLUSION: The expression changes of bak, bax, bcl-2 and bcl-XL genes are altered not only due to regeneration,but also due to effects of surgical operations.Kamil Can Akcali Aydin Dalgic Ahmet Ucar Khemaeis Ben Haj Dilek Guvenc 2004World Journal of Gastroenterology2004,10,2:13
2Hot compression deformation behavior of AISI 321 austenitic stainless steel显示文摘The hot compression behavior of AISI 321 austenitic stainless steel was studied at the temperatures of 950- 1100 C and the strain rates of 0.01-1s1 using a Baehr DIL-805 deformation dilatometer. The hot deformation equations and the relationship between hot deformation parameters were obtained. It is found that strain rate and deformation temperature significantly influence the flow stress behavior of the steel. The work hardening rate and the peak value of flow stress increase with the decrease of deformation temperature and the increase of strain rate. In addition, the activation energy of deformation (Q) is calculated as 433.343kJ/mol. The microstructural evolution during deformation indicates that, at the temperature of 950C and the strain rate of 0.01s1 , small circle-like precipitates form along grain boundaries; but at the temperatures above 950C, the dissolution of such precipitates occurs. 3Synthesis and antibacterial activity of Schiff bases of 5-substituted isatins显示文摘Based on the existing reports on the bioactive isatin derivatives, a number of Schiff bases were synthesized by reacting 5-substituted isatins with bioactive amines/hydrazides and their structures were confirmed using spectroscopic methods such as NMR, IR and mass spectrometry. Furthermore, Nbenzylation of isatin followed by the Schiff base formation furnished a new series of compounds(11a–13c) which allowed the analysis of the effect of isatin N-substitution on the bioactivity of the resulting compounds. The antibacterial activity of the synthesized derivatives was evaluated using a microtiter plate method on a series of gram positive and gram negative bacterial strains. Compounds 2d, 3b, 5c and 6a were among the most potent derivatives against Pseudomonas aeruginosa(MIC = 6.25 μg/m L).Analysis of the structure–activity relationship showed that the incorporation of(thio)urea-based Schiff bases lead to more potent derivatives with a broader spectrum of antibacterial activity. In addition,highly lipophilic compounds such as 11a–12c did not show any measurable antibacterial activity, which implies that an optimal lipophilicity might be an important requirement for the antibacterial activity of the studied isatins. 4Nutritional assessment in patients with liver cirrhosis显示文摘Malnutrition is a liver cirrhosis complication affecting more than 20%-50%of patients.Although the term can refer to either nutrient deficiency or excess,it usually relates to undernutrition in cirrhosis settings.Frailty is defined as limited physical function due to muscle weakness,whereas sarcopenia is defined as muscle mass loss and an advanced malnutrition stage.The pathogenesis of malnutrition in liver cirrhosis is multifactorial,including decreased oral intake,maldigestion/malabsorption,physical inactivity,hyperammonemia,hypermetabolism,altered macronutrient metabolism and gut microbiome dysbiosis.Patients with chronic liver disease with a Body Mass Index of<18.5 kg/m2 and/or decompensated cirrhosis or Child-Pugh class C are at the highest risk of malnutrition.For patients at risk of malnutrition,a detailed nutritional assessment is required,typically including a history and physical examination,laboratory testing,global assessment tools and body composition testing.The latter can be done using anthropometry,cross-sectional imaging including computed tomography or magnetic resonance,bioelectrical impedance analysis and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry.A multidisciplinary team should screen for and treat malnutrition in patients with cirrhosis.Malnutrition and sarcopenia are associated with an increased risk of complications and a poor prognosis in patients with liver cirrhosis;thus,it is critical to diagnose these conditions early and initiate the appropriate nutritional therapy.In this review,we describe the prevalence and pathogenesis of malnutrition in liver cirrhosis patients and discuss the best diagnostic approach to nutritional assessment for them.Sara Haj Ali Awni Abu Sneineh Reem Hasweh 2022World Journal of Hepatology2022,14,9:3
5Trends in treatment and overall survival among patients with proximal esophageal cancer显示文摘BACKGROUND The management of proximal esophageal cancer differs from that of tumors located in the mid and lower part of the esophagus due to the close vicinity of vital structures.Non-surgical treatment options like radiotherapy and definitive chemoradiation(CRT)have been implemented.The trends in(non-)surgical treatment and its impact on overall survival(OS)in patients with proximal esophageal cancer are unclear,related to its rare disease status.To optimize treatment strategies and counseling of patients with proximal esophageal cancer,it is therefore essential to gain more insight through real-life studies.AIM To establish trends in treatment and OS in patients with proximal esophageal cancer.METHODS In this population-based study,patients with proximal esophageal cancer diagnosed between 1989 and 2014 were identified in the Netherlands Cancer Registry.The proximal esophagus consists of the cervical esophagus and the upper thoracic section,extending to 24 cm from the incisors.Trends in radiotherapy,chemotherapy,and surgery,and OS were assessed.Analyses were stratified by presence of distant metastasis.Multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression analyses was performed to assess the effect of period of diagnosis on OS,adjusted for patient,tumor,and treatment characteristics.RESULTS In total,2783 patients were included.Over the study period,the use of radiotherapy,resection,and CRT in non-metastatic disease changed from 53%,23%,and 1%in 1989-1994 to 21%,9%,and 49%in 2010-2014,respectively.In metastatic disease,the use of chemotherapy and radiotherapy increased over time.Median OS of the total population increased from 7.3 mo[95%confidence interval(CI):6.4-8.1]in 1989-1994 to 9.5 mo(95%CI:8.1-10.8)in 2010-2014(logrank P<0.001).In non-metastatic disease,5-year OS rates improved from 5%(95%CI:3%-7%)in 1989-1994 to 13%(95%CI:9%-17%)in 2010-2014(logrank P<0.001).Multivariable regression analysis demonstrated a significant treatment effect over time on survival.In metastatic disease,median OS was 3.8 mo(95%CI:2.5-5.1)in 1989-1994,and 5.1 mo(95%CI:4.3-5.9)in 2010-2014(logrank P=0.26).CONCLUSION OS significantly improved in non-metastatic proximal esophageal cancer,likely to be associated with an increased use of CRT.Patterns in metastatic disease did not change significantly over time.Judith de Vos-Geelen Sandra ME Geurts Liselot BJ Valkenburg-van Iersel Evelien JM de Jong Vivianne CG Tjan-Heijnen Margreet van Putten Valery EPP Lemmens Heike I Grabsch Nadia Haj Mohammad Frank JP Hoebers Chantal V Hoge Paul M Jeene Hanneke WM van Laarhoven Tom Rozema Marije Slingerland Grard AP Nieuwenhuijzen 2019World Journal of Gastroenterology2019,25,47:2
6肝癌患者血清甲胎蛋白(AFP)水平与肿瘤大小的相关性显示文摘目的探讨肝癌患者血清甲胎蛋白(AFP)水平与肿瘤大小的关系.方法回顾性研究青海大学附属医院确诊的肝癌病例474例(排除了其他系统来源的肝转移瘤).记录所有患者的临床病史及血清AFP值,根据肿瘤大小将AFP异常者分为6组、正常者分为3组.所有患者均行腹部平扫及增强CT检查评估肿瘤大小,与血清AFP行Spearman相关性分析.结果血清AFP水平与肿瘤大小有显著相关性(P=0.0001).结论血清AFP与肝癌(HCC)肿瘤大小显著相关.影像学检查结合血清AFP检查在诊断HCC中起到重要作用.Nasteho Haj Bashir 鲍海华 2020中国高原医学与生物学杂志2020,41,2:2
7Potential generated by a massive inhomogeneous straight segment显示文摘The discoveries of binary asteroids have opened an important new field of research concerning the calculation of potential generated by irregular bodies.Some of them have an elongated shape.A simple model to describe the motion of a test particle in that kind of potential requires consideration of a finite homogeneous straight segment.We construct this model by adding an inhomogeneous distribution of mass. 8Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyhexanoate) supports adhesion and migration of mesenchymal stem cells and tenocytes显示文摘AIM: To establish the potential of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyhexanoate) (PHBHHx) as a material for tendon repair. METHODS: The biocompatibility of PHBHHx with both rat tenocytes (rT) and human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSC) was explored by monitoring adhesive characteristics on films of varying weight/volume ratios coupled to a culture atmosphere of either 21% O2 (air) or 2% O2 (physiological normoxia). The diameter and stiffness of PHBHHx films was established using optical coherence tomography and mechanical testing, respectively. RESULTS: Film thickness correlated directly with weight/volume PHBHHx (r2 = 0.9473) ranging from 0.1 mm (0.8% weight/volume) to 0.19 mm (2.4% weight/volume). Film stiffness on the other hand displayed a biphasic response which increased rapidly at values > 1.6% weight/volume. Optimal cell attachment of rT required films of ≥ 1.6% and ≥ 2.0% weight/volume PHBHHx in 2% O2 and 21% O2 respectively. A qualitative adhesion increase was noted for hMSC in films ≥ 1.2% weight/volume, becoming significant at 2% weight/volume in 2% O2. An increase in cell adhesion was also noted with ≥ 2% weight/volume PHBHHx in 21% O2. Cell migration into films was not observed.
