| 1 | Anatomy of a eustatic event during the Turonian (Late Cretaceous) hot greenhouse climate显示文摘Sequence stratigraphic studies consider relative change in sea level(as regulated by eustasy,local tectonics and sediment supply)as the main builder of the stratigraphic record.Eustasy has generally been considered as a consequence of the growth and decay of continental ice sheets that would explain large,rapid changes in sea level,even during periods of relative global climatic warmth.However,such a mechanism has become increasingly difficult to envision during times of extreme global warmth such as the Turonian,when the equator-to-pole temperature gradient was very low and the presence of polar ice seems improbable.This paper investigates the timing and extent of sea level falls during the late Cenomanian through Turonian,especially the largest of those events,sequence boundary KTu4,which occurred during the middle to late Turonian peak of the Cretaceous hot greenhouse climate.We conclude that the amplitude of the widespread third-order sea level fall in the middle Turonian that is centered at^91.8 Ma varies at different locations depending on the influence of dynamic topography on local tectonics and regional climatic conditions.Ice volume variations seem unlikely as a mechanism for controlling sea level at this time.However,this causal factor cannot be ruled out completely since Antarctic highlands(if they existed in the Late Cretaceous)could sequester enough water as ice to cause eustatic falls.To ascertain this requires detailed tomographic imaging of Antarctica,followed by geodynamic modeling,to determine whether high plateaus could have existed to accumulate ephemeral ice sheets.Other mechanisms for sea level change,such as transference between ground water(a small amplitude shorter time scale effect)and the ocean and entrainment and release of water from the mantle to the oceanic reservoir(a potentially large amplitude and longer time scale process),are intriguing and need to be explored further to prove their efficacy at third-order time scales. | Bilal U. | 2 | Achieving strength-ductility synergy in cold spray additively manufactured Al/B4C composites through a hybrid post-deposition treatment显示文摘Cold spray additive manufacturing(CSAM) provides a potential solid state manufacturing route to fabricate variety of aluminum matrix composites(AMCs) with reduced possibility of undesired chemical reactions and residual thermal stresses. This study presents a hybrid(i.e. hot compression + hot rolling)post-deposition treatment to reinvigorate the mechanical properties of cold spray additively manufactured Al/B4 C composites. The as-deposited samples were initially subjected to 30% thickness reduction via hot compression treatment at 500°C followed by a hot rolling treatment with 40% thickness reduction in 2 passes. Electron backscatter diffraction(EBSD) and high resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM) results revealed that after hybrid post-deposition treatment(involving 70%accumulative thickness reduction), the aluminum grains in the matrix were extensively refined due to simultaneous operation of continuous dynamic recrystallization(CDRX) and geometric dynamic recrystallization(GDRX). Furthermore, interfacial defects were remarkably reduced while the nature of Al/Al and Al/B4C interfacial bonding was changed from sheer mechanical interlocking to metallurgical bonding which facilitated efficient transference of applied load to uniformly dispersed bimodal B4C particles. | 7 | Randomized study comparing incidence of radial artery occlusion post-percutaneous coronary intervention between two conventional compression devices using a novel airinflation technique显示文摘AIM To compare post-percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI) radial artery occlusion(RAO) incidence between two conventional radial artery compression devices using a novel air-inflation technique.METHODS One hundred consecutive patients post-PCI were randomized 1:1 to Safeguard or TR band compression devices. Post-radial sheath removal, each compression device was inflated with additional 2 m L of air above index bleeding point during air-filled device application and gradually down-titrated accordingly. RAO was defined as absence of Doppler flow signal performed at 24 h and at 6 wk post-PCI. Patients with missing data were excluded. Statistical significance was defined as P < 0.05.RESULTS All patients had 6 F radial sheath inserted. No significant differences were observed between Safeguard Radial(n = 42) vs TR band(n = 42) in terms of age(63 ± 11 years vs 67 ± 11 years), clinical presentation(electives, n = 18 vs n = 16; acute coronary syndrome, n = 24 vs n = 26) and total procedural heparin(7778 ± 2704 IU vs 7825 ± 2450 IU). RAO incidence was not significantly different between groups at 24 h(2% vs 0%, P = 0.32) and 6 wk(0%, both).CONCLUSION Safeguard Radial and TR band did not demonstrate significant between-group differences in short-term RAO incidence. Lack of evidence of RAO in all postPCI patients at 6 wk follow-up, regardless of radial compression device indicate advantage of using the novel and pragmatic air-inflation technique. | 10 | Effects of chronic heat stress on granulosa cell apoptosis and follicular atresia in mouse ovary显示文摘Background: Heat stress is known to alter follicular dynamics and granulosa cell function and may contribute to the diminished reproductive efficiency commonly observed in mammals during the summer. Although several investigators have studied heat-induced ovarian injury, few reports have focused on the effects of chronic heat stress on ovarian function and the molecular mechanisms through which it induces ovarian injury.Methods: In Exp. 1, 48 female mice were assigned to a control or heat-stressed treatment. After exposure to a constant temperature of 25 °C for 7, 14, 21 or 28 d(n = 6) or to 42 °C for 3 h per d for 7, 14, 21 or 28 d(n = 6), the mice were euthanized and their ovaries were analyzed for follicular atresia, granulosa cell apoptosis, changes in the abundance of HSP70 protein and serum concentrations of estradiol. In Exp. 2, the expression of HSP70 and aromatase was quantified in antral follicles cultured in vitro at 37 or 42 °C for 24 h. In Exp. 3, granulosa cells from ovaries maintained at 37 or 41 °C for 2 h were analyzed for their expression of HSP70, Bim, caspase-3 and cleaved caspase-3.Results: In Exp. 1, body weight and food intake of heat-stressed mice decreased(P < 0.05) compared with control mice while the concentration of estradiol in serum was lower(P < 0.05) in heat-stressed mice than in control mice. Compared with control mice, the percentage of atretic follicles and the number of antral follicles with severe apoptotic signals were increased(P < 0.05) after 21 d of heat-stressed treatment. HSP70 protein was more abundant(P < 0.05) in heat-stressed mice than control mice. In Exp. 2, heat stress increased HSP70 and decreased aromatase proteins(P < 0.05) in antral follicles. So adaptive capacity of the poverty level for sustainable livelihood in vulnerable wetlands is related to coping with local climate change. This paper focuses on soil-less agriculture (Hydroponics) as an alternative source of livelihood means for the communities having no lands for cultivation. Approximately half of Bangladesh is covered with wetlands. The prospect of enormous productivity lies in the development of wetland resources. The soil-less agriculture is an indigenous practice in the middle of southwestern part of Bangladesh. The people who lives within the wetland ecosystems uses locally available paddy straws, water hyacinths and various invasively aquatic plants for making the floating mat or organic bed on which crops, vegetables and seedlings are grown. The productivity of this farming system is much higher than that of terrestrials agricultural and the system can support fisheries of open water. The compost generated from organic refuse bed is a kind of enriched nutrient and can act as a soil conditioner. It would be a major source of nutrients in aquaculture as well. The system is capable to ensure more agriculture production by restoring wetlands from aquatic invasive plant. | 13 | Using Landsat images to monitor changes in the snow-covered area of selected glaciers in northern Pakistan显示文摘Landsat satellite images were used to map and monitor the snow-covered areas of four glaciers with different aspects(Passu: 36.473°N, 74.766°E;Momhil: 36.394°N, 75.085°E; Trivor: 36.249°N,74.968°E; and Kunyang: 36.083°N, 75.288°E) in the upper Indus basin, northern Pakistan, from 1990-2014. The snow-covered areas of the selected glaciers were identified and classified using supervised and rule-based image analysis techniques in three different seasons. Accuracy assessment of the classified images indicated that the supervised classification technique performed slightly better than the rule-based technique. Snow-covered areas on the selected glaciers were generally reduced during the study period but at different rates. Glaciers reached maximum areal snow coverage in winter and premonsoon seasons and minimum areal snow coverage in monsoon seasons, with the lowest snow-covered area occurring in August and September. The snowcovered area on Passu glacier decreased by 24.50%,3.15% and 11.25% in the pre-monsoon, monsoon and post-monsoon seasons, respectively. Similarly, the other three glaciers showed notable decreases in snow-covered area during the pre-and post-monsoon seasons; however, no clear changes were observed during monsoon seasons. During pre-monsoon seasons, the eastward-facing glacier lost comparatively more snow-covered area than the westward-facing glacier. The average seasonal glacier surface temperature calculated from the Landsat thermal band showed negative correlations of-0.67,-0.89,-0.75 and-0.77 with the average seasonal snowcovered areas of the Passu, Momhil, Trivor and Kunyang glaciers, respectively, during pre-monsoon seasons. | 17 | Deep Learning Based Modeling of Groundwater Storage Change显示文摘The understanding of water resource changes and a proper projection of their future availability are necessary elements of sustainable water planning.Monitoring GWS change and future water resource availability are crucial,especially under changing climatic conditions.Traditional methods for in situ groundwater well measurement are a significant challenge due to data unavailability.The present investigation utilized the Long Short Term Memory(LSTM)networks to monitor and forecast Terrestrial Water Storage Change(TWSC)and Ground Water Storage Change(GWSC)based on Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment(GRACE)datasets from 2003-2025 for five basins of Saudi Arabia.An attempt has been made to assess the effects of rainfall,water used,and net budget modeling of groundwater.Analysis of GRACE-derived TWSC and GWSC estimates indicates that all five basins show depletion of water from 2003-2020 with a rate ranging from−5.88±1.2 mm/year to−14.12±1.2 mm/year and−3.5±1.5 to−10.7±1.5,respectively.Forecasting based on the developed LSTM model indicates that the investigated basins are likely to experience serious water depletion at rates ranging from−7.78±1.2 to−15.6±1.2 for TWSC and−4.97±1.5 to−12.21±1.5 for GWSC from 2020-2025.An interesting observation was a minor increase in rainfall during the study period for three basins. | Mohd Anul Haq Abdul Khadar Jilani P.Prabu | 2022 | Computers, Materials & Continua2022,,3: | 3 |

The blends of PS/PANI formed the heterogeneous phase separated morphology in which PCNTs are dispersed uniformly. The incorporation of a small amount of PCNTs into the blend of PS/PANI has remarkably increased the dielectric properties. Similarly, the AC conductivity of PS/PANI is also increased five orders of magnitude from 1.6 × 10^(-10) to 2.0 × 10^(-5) S·cm^(-1) in the hybrid nanocomposites. Such behavior of hybrid nanocomposites is owing to the interfacial polarization occurring due to the presence of multicomponent domains with varying conductivity character of the phases from insulative PS to poor conductor PANI to highly conductive CNTs. Meanwhile, the tensile modulus and tensile strength are also enhanced significantly up to 55% and 160%, respectively, without much loss of ductility for three phase hybrid nanocomposites as compared to the neat PS.
