| 1 | Preparation, characterization, and antibacterial activity of γ-irradiated silver nanoparticles in aqueous gelatin显示文摘Colloidal silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) were obtained through γ-irradiation of aqueous solutions containing AgNO 3 and gelatin as a silver source and stabilizer, respectively. The absorbed dose of γ-irradiation influences the particle diameter of the Ag-NPs, as evidenced from surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images. When the γ-irradiation dose was increased (from 2 to 50 kGy), the mean particle size was decreased continuously as a result of γ-induced Ag-NPs fragmentation. The antibacterial properties of the Ag-NPs were tested against Methicillinresistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) (Gram-positive) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P.a) (Gram-negative) bacteria. This approach reveals that the γ-irradiation-mediated method is a promising simple route for synthesizing highly stable Ag-NPs in aqueous solutions with good antibacterial properties for different applications. | Majid Darroudi Mansor B. | 2 | Mechanistic, Energetic and Structural Aspects of the Adsorption of Carmustine on the Functionalized Carbon Nanotubes显示文摘Using density functional theory, noncovalent interactions and two mechanisms of covalent functionalization of drug carmustine with functionalized carbon nanotube(CNT) have been investigated. Quantum molecular descriptors of noncovalent configurations were studied. It was specified that binding of drug carmustine with functionalized CNT is thermodynamically suitable. NTCOOH and NTCOCl can bond to the NH group of carmustine through OH(COOH mechanism) and Cl(COCl mechanism) groups, respectively. The activation energies, activation enthalpies and activation Gibbs free energies of two pathways were calculated and compared with each other. The activation parameters related to COOH mechanism are higher than those related to COCl mechanism, and therefore COCl mechanism is suitable for covalent functionalization. COOH functionalized CNT(NTCOOH) has more binding energy than COCl functionalized CNT(NTCOCl) and can act as a favorable system for carmustine drug delivery within biological and chemical systems(noncovalent). | 7 | Tioxolone niosomes exert antileishmanial effects on Leishmania tropica by promoting promastigote apoptosis and immunomodulation显示文摘Objective: To explore the antileishmanial effect of tioxolone and its niosomal form against Leishmania tropica. Methods: Tioxolone niosomes were prepared by the hydration method and were evaluated for morphology, size, release study, and encapsulation efficiency. The cytotoxicity of tioxolone and its niosomal form was measured by MTT assay, leishmanicidal activity against promastigote and amastigote by MTT assay, apoptosis by flow cytometry, IL-12, IL-10 and metacaspase gene expression levels by q-PCR. Results: Span/Tween 40 and Span/Tween 60 niosomes had good physical stability as depicted in their size distribution curves and high encapsulation efficiency(>99%). The release profile of the entrapped compounds showed Fickian’s model of tioxolone delivery based on diffusion through lipid bilayers. With the IC50 value for amastigote as(24.5±2.1) μg/mL and selectivity index as 10.5, the Span/Tween 60 niosome(NT2) had a superior effect to other drugs. The CC50 value and IC50 of promastigote value for NT2 were(257.5±24.5) μg/mL and(164.8±20.6) μg/mL, respectively. The flow cytometric analysis showed that tioxolone and niosomal forms induced apoptosis of Leishmania tropica promastigotes in a dose-dependent manner. NT2 increased the expression level of IL-12 and metacaspase genes and decreased the expression level of the IL-10 gene.Conclusions: Niosomes of tioxolone play an immunomodulatory role in increasing Th1 cytokine profile and inhibiting the Th2 cytokine profile. | 8 | Estimating oak forest parameters in the western mountains of Iran using satellite-based vegetation indices显示文摘Remote sensing is an important tool for studying and modeling forest stands.Vegetation indices obtained from Landsat-8 remotely sensed data were used to estimate the forest parameters in the western mountains of Iran.Thirtyfour sample points were selected on the map of Bayangan County,Kermanshah province,Iran.At each point,a cluster of five rectangular plots of 8100 m2 and 200 m apart was established.Some clusters were primarily sampled to determine the variance of the forest parameters.The coefficient of variation was used as a criterion for sample allocation.Stand density,canopy cover and basal area per hectare were calculated for each plot.Vegetation indices were extracted fromthe Landsat-8 images for each plot.Simple linear and nonlinear regressions were conducted to develop the models.The models were validated using an independent data set.Stability of model parameters was statistically evaluated.The results showed that Normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI)and Transformed normalized difference vegetation index(TNDVI)followed by Simple ratio vegetation index(SRVI)were the best predictors,explaining up to 91%of the variations with high precision.For NDVI,Soil adjusted vegetation index 2(SAVI2)and SRVI,the cubic model was more appropriate than the linear model for predicting the forest parameters.For this model,the R-square value increased while NRMSE decreased significantly.For Infrared percentage vegetation index(IPVI),the quadratic model was better,but,for other vegetation indices,nonlinear models were not superior to linear ones.Finally,it can be concluded that Landsat-8 imagery is suitable for predicting forest parameters in the oak forests of western Iran.Of course,large plots must be selected,and pre-classification is necessary to gain accurate and precise estimations. | Adel Nouri Bahman Kiani Mohammad Hossein Hakimi Mohammad Hossein Mokhtari | 2020 | Journal of Forestry Research2020,31,2: | 0 |
