| 2 | Application of Wenner Configuration to Estimate Soil Water Content in Pine Plantations on Sandy Land显示文摘To estimate the mean value of surface soil water content rapidly,accurately,and nonintrusively,field investigations on soil electrical resistivity(SER)with the Yokogawa 324400 earth resistivity meter and the surface(0-150 cm)soil water content(SWC)with time domain reflectometry(TDR),together with the abiotic factors including soil texture,structure. and salinity concentrations were conducted in the Mongolian pine(Pinus sylvestris var.mongolica)plantations on a sandy land.The measurement of SER was based on the 4-probe Wenner configuration method.Relationships between the values of SWC and SER were obtained based on analysis of the abiotic factors of the research site,which play a key role in affecting the soil electrical resistivity.Results indicate that the SER meter could be used to estimate the mean value of SWC in the Mongolian pine plantations on the sandy land during the growing seasons.The bulky nature of the equipment simplified the cumbersome measurements of soil water content with the general methods.It must be noted that the Wenner configuration method could only provide the mean values of the SWC,and the soil texture,structure, temperature,and solute concentrations influenced the SER and further affected the estimation of the SWC by the SER meter.Therefore,the results of this study could be applied on a sandy land during the growing seasons only.However, the SWC of other soil types also may be obtained according to the individual soil types using the procedures of this study. | ZHU Jiao-Jun KANG Hong-Zhang Y. | 3 | Optimal treatment strategies for hepatic portal venous gas:A retrospective assessment显示文摘BACKGROUND Hepatic portal venous gas(HPVG)generally indicates poor prognoses in patients with serious intestinal damage.Although surgical removal of the damaged portion is effective,some patients can recover with conservative treatments.AIM To establish an optimal treatment strategy for HPVG,we attempted to generate computed tomography(CT)-based criteria for determining surgical indication,and explored reliable prognostic factors in non-surgical cases.METHODS Thirty-four cases of HPVG(patients aged 34-99 years)were included.Necessity for surgery had been determined mainly by CT findings(i.e.free-air,embolism,lack of contrast enhancement of the intestinal wall,and intestinal pneumatosis).The clinical data,including treatment outcomes,were analyzed separately for the surgical cases and non-surgical cases.RESULTS Laparotomy was performed in eight cases(surgical cases).Seven patients(87.5%)survived but one(12.5%)died.In each case,severe intestinal damage was confirmed during surgery,and the necrotic portion,if present,was removed.Non-occlusive mesenteric ischemia was the most common cause(n=4).Twentysix cases were treated conservatively(non-surgical cases).Surgical treatments had been required for twelve but were abandoned because of the patients’poor general conditions.Surprisingly,however,three(25%)of the twelve inoperable patients survived.The remaining 14 of the 26 cases were diagnosed originally as being sufficiently cured by conservative treatments,and only one patient(7%)died.Comparative analyses of the fatal(n=10)and recovery(n=16)cases revealed that ascites,peritoneal irritation signs,and shock were significantly more frequent in the fatal cases.The mortality was 90%if two or all of these three clinical findings were detected.CONCLUSION HPVG related to intestinal necrosis requires surgery,and our CT-based criteria are probably useful to determine the surgical indication.In non-surgical cases,ascites,peritoneal irritation signs and shock were closely associated with poor prognoses,and are applicable as predictors of patients’prognoses. | Masanori Gonda Tatsuya Osuga Yoshihiro Ikura Kazunori Hasegawa Kentaro Kawasaki Takatoshi Nakashima | 2020 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,14: | 8 |

The poor prognoses of these cancers are strongly related to lack of effective screening modalities as well as few therapeutic options. In this review, we highlight novel biomarkers that have the potential to be used as diagnostic, prognostic and predictive markers. The focus of this review is biomarkers that can be evaluated on endoscopically-obtained biopsies or brush specimens in the pre-operative setting. We also provide an overview of novel serum based markers in the early diagnosis of both PDAC and CCA.
