| 3 | 120-150 ka human tooth and ivory engravings from Xinglongdong Cave, Three Gorges Region, South China显示文摘Rich paleoanthropological materials were unearthed in primary context from the Xinglongdong Cave in Fengjie County, Chongqing, South China, including a human tooth, numerous mammalian fossils, some stone artifacts and a Stegodon tusk exhibiting intentional engravings.Based on biostratigraphic data and uranium series dating,the cave was utilized as a human shelter about 120000-150000 years ago. It is the first time that an archaic Homo sapiens fossil has been unearthed from the Three Gorges Region. Engravings on the Stegodon tusk appear in groups,making up simple and abstract images. | 4 | Joint contractures in severe burn patients with early rehabilitation intervention in one of the largest burn intensive care unit in China:a descriptive analysis显示文摘Background:Joint contracture is the major clinical complication in burn patients,especially,the severe burn patients.This study aimed to investigate the number and severity of joint contractures in patients with burns affecting greater than or equal to 50%of the total body surface area(TBSA)undergoing early rehabilitation in a burn intensive care unit(BICU).Methods:We analyzed burn patients with burns affecting greater than or equal to 50%of the TBSA admitted to a BICU who received early rehabilitation within 7 days post-injury from January 2011 to December 2015.Demographic and medical information was collected.The range of motion(ROM)of different joints was measured 1 month post-admission.Spearman’s correlation coefficient and logistic regression analysis was used to determine predictors of the presence and severity of contractures.Result:The average affected TBSA of the included burn patients was 67.4%,and the average length of stay in the BICU was 46.2±28.8 days.One hundred and one of 108 burn patients(93.5%)developed at least one joint contracture.The ROM in 67.9%of the affected joints was mildly limited.The majority of contractures in severe burn patients were mild(37.7%)or moderate(33.2%).The wrist was the most commonly affected joint(18.2%),followed by the shoulder,ankle,hip,knee,and elbow.A predictor of the presence of contractures was the length of hospital stay(p=0.049).The severe contracture was related to the area of full-thickness burns,the strict bed rest time,and the duration of rehabilitation in BICU.The length of rehabilitation stay(days)in patients with moderate contracture is 54.5%longer than that in severe contracture(p=0.024)Conclusion:During the long stay in BICU,the length of rehabilitation stay in a BICU could decrease the severity of contractures from severe to moderate in the patients with equal to 50%of the TBSA.Hence,this research reveals the important role of early rehabilitation interventions in severe burn patients. | Jianglin Tan Jian Chen Junyi Zhou Huapei Song Huan Deng Ming Ao Gaoxing Luo Jun Wu | 2019 | Burns & Trauma2019,7,1: | 9 |
| 5 | Platelet-rich plasma accelerates skin wound healing by promoting re-epithelialization显示文摘Background:Autologous platelet-rich plasma(PRP)has been suggested to be effective for wound healing.However,evidence for its use in patients with acute and chronic wounds remains insufficient.The aims of this study were to comprehensively examine the effectiveness,synergy and possible mechanism of PRP-mediated improvement of acute skin wound repair.Methods:Full-thickness wounds were made on the back of C57/BL6 mice.PRP or saline solution as a control was administered to the wound area.Wound healing rate,local inflammation,angiogenesis,re-epithelialization and collagen deposition were measured at days 3,5,7 and 14 after skin injury.The biological character of epidermal stem cells(ESCs),which reflect the potential for re-epithelialization,was further evaluated in vitro and in vivo.Results:PRP strongly improved skin wound healing,which was associated with regulation of local inflammation,enhancement of angiogenesis and re-epithelialization.PRP treatment significantly reduced the production of inflammatory cytokines interleukin-17A and interleukin-1β.An increase in the local vessel intensity and enhancement of re-epithelialization were also observed in animals with PRP administration and were associated with enhanced secretion of growth factors such as vascular endothelial growth factor and insulin-like growth factor-1.Moreover,PRP treatment ameliorated the survival and activated the migration and proliferation of primary cultured ESCs,and these effects were accompanied by the differentiation of ESCs into adult cells following the changes of CD49f and keratin 10 and keratin 14.Conclusion:PRP improved skin wound healing by modulating inflammation and increasing angiogenesis and re-epithelialization.However,the underlying regulatory mechanism needs to be investigated in the future.Our data provide a preliminary theoretical foundation for the clinical administration of PRP in wound healing and skin regeneration. | Pengcheng Xu Yaguang Wu Lina Zhou Zengjun Yang Xiaorong Zhang Xiaohong Hu Jiacai Yang Mingying Wang Binjie Wang Gaoxing Luo Weifeng He Biao Cheng | 2020 | Burns & Trauma2020,8,1: | 8 |

| 8 | Clinical observations on the treatment of infantile hemangiomas with topical imiquimod 5% cream显示文摘Objective:To observe the efficacy and safety of topical imiquimod 5% cream in the treatment of uncomplicated infantile hemangiomas (IHs). Methods:A total of 68 IHs were treated with topical imiquimod 5% cream. Among them,36 were superficial,22 were mixed,and 10 were deep. The size of IHs ranged from 1.0 cm × 1.5 cm to an area of a whole forearm. All the hemangiomas were in a proliferative stage. Imiquimod was applied 3 times weekly in 44 patients and 5 times weekly in 24 patients for up to 36 weeks. Results:All superficial IHs improved,and 18 achieved complete clinical resolution,10 had excellent improvement,5 showed moderate improvements,and 3 patients displayed minimal improvement. Two mixed IHs showed excellent improvement,3 showed moderate improvement and 5 mani-fested minimal improvements. The remaining 12 mixed IHs and all deep IHs did not respond to the therapy. The total incidence of local adverse events was 58.82%(40/68),which included erythema or edema,local itching,incrustation or peeling,erosion or ulceration,although most of these were mild to moderate reactions and did not affect the treatment. Scarring occurred in 2 mixed IHs. No systemic side effects developed. Conclusion:Imiquimod 5% cream may be a safe and effective alternative for the treatment of superficial IHs and some mixed IHs in which the superficial component predominates. An appropriate treatment duration for proliferative IHs treated with this therapy may be 24 weeks. Some local adverse events,such as crusting and erosion with possible scarring potential may occur and should be addressed by prompt,but temporary,discontinuation of the imiquimod. Topical imiquimod 5% cream can be prudently used in the treatment of IHs larger than 5.0 cm×5.0 cm in newborns and infants less than 6 months of age. | 12 | Effect of ionic strength and mixing ratio on complex coacervation of soy protein isolate/Flammulina velutipes polysaccharide显示文摘Soy protein isolate(SPI)is a commercial protein with balanced amino acids,while the poor solubility impedes its use in traditional foods.To overcome the problem,the complex coacervation of SPI/Flammulina velutipes polysaccharide(FVP)were investigated.Initial results revealed that the suitable amounts of FVP contributed to reducing the turbidity of SPI solution.Under electrostatic interaction,the formation of SPI/FVP coacervates were spontaneous and went through a nucleation and growth process.Low salt concentration(C_(NaCl)=10,50 mmol/L)led to an increase in the critical pH values(pHc,pHφ1)while the critical pH values decreased when C_(NaCl)≥100 mmol/L.The concentration of NaCl ions increased the content ofα-helix.With the increase of FVP,the critical pH values decreased and the content ofβ-sheet increased through electrostatic interaction.At SPI/FVP ratio of 10:1 and 15:1,the complex coacervation of SPI/FVP were saturated,and the coacervates had the same storage modulus value.SPI/FVP coacervates exhibited solid-like properties and presented the strongest storage modulus at C_(NaCl)=50 mmol/L.The optimal pH,SPI/FVP ratio and NaCl concentration of complex coacervation were collected,and the coacervates demonstrated a valuable application potential to protect and deliver bioactives and food ingredients. | Junmiao Zhang Hengjun Du Ning Ma Lei Zhong Gaoxing Ma Fei Pei Hui Chen Qiuhui Hu | 2023 | Food Science and Human Wellness2023,12,1: | 2 |

| 14 | A ROS-responsive,self-immolative and self-reporting hydrogen sulfide donor with multiple biological activities for the treatment of myocardial infarction显示文摘Myocardial infarction(MI),as one of the leading causes of global death,urgently needs effective therapies.Recently,hydrogen sulfide(H2S)has been regarded as a promising therapeutic agent for MI,while its spatiotemporally controlled delivery remains a major issue limiting clinical translation.To address this limitation,we designed and synthesized a novel H2S donor(HSD-R)that can produce H2S and emit fluorescence in response to reactive oxygen species(ROS)highly expressed at diseased sites.HSD-R can specifically target mitochondria and provide red fluorescence to visualize and quantify H2S release in vitro and in vivo.Therapeutically,HSD-R significantly promoted the reconstruction of cardiac structure and function in a rat MI model.Mechanistically,myocardial protection is achieved by reducing cardiomyocyte apoptosis,attenuating local inflammation,and promoting angiogenesis.Furthermore,inhibition of typical pro-apoptotic genes(Bid,Apaf-1,and p53)played an important role in the anti-apoptotic effect of HSD-R to achieve cardioprotection,which were identified as new therapeutic targets of H2S against myocardial ischemia injury.This ROS-responsive,self-immolative,and fluorescent H2S donor can serve as a new theranostic agent for MI and other ischemic diseases. | Mengyun Yao Yifei Lu Lin Shi Yong Huang Qing Zhang Jianglin Tan Ping Hu Jianxiang Zhang Gaoxing Luo Ning Zhang | 2022 | Bioactive Materials2022,7,3: | 2 |
