| 1 | Degradation of bisphenol-A using ultrasonic irradiation assisted by low-concentration hydrogen peroxide显示文摘This study investigated the degradation of bisphenol-A (BPA) by ultrasonic irradiation in the presence of different additives (H2O2,air bubbles and humic acid) under various operating conditions,i.e.,ultrasonic frequency,power intensity and power density.The results demonstrated that the BPA degradation followed pseudo first-order kinetics under different experimental conditions.The optimum power intensities were 0.9,1.8,and 3.0W/cm 2 at the frequencies of 400,670,and 800 kHz,respectively.At the fixed frequency (800 kHz),the degradation rate of BPA was shown proportional to the increase of power density applied.With this manner,the BPA sonolysis could be facilitated at H2O2 dosage being lower than 0.1 mmol/L;while BPA degradation was hindered at H2O2 concentration in excess of 1 mmol/L.Additionally,BPA removal was shown to be inhibited by the presence of aeration and humic acid during ultrasonic irradiation.The present study suggested that the degradation rate of BPA assisted by ultrasonic irradiation was influenced by a variety of factors,and high BPA removal rate could be achieved under appropriate conditions. | Kejia Zhang Naiyun Gao Yang Deng Tsair Fuh Lin Yan Ma Lei Li Minghao Sui | 2011 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2011，23，1： | 9 |
| 2 | Age exerts a continuous effect in the outcomes of Asian breast cancer patients treated with breast-conserving therapy显示文摘Background:Asians are diagnosed with breast cancer at a younger age than Caucasians are.We studied the effect of age on locoregional recurrence and the survival of Asian breast cancer patients treated with breast-conserving therapy.Methods:Medical records of 2492 patients treated with breast-conserving therapy between 1989 and 2012 were reviewed.The Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate locoregional recurrence,breast cancer-free survival,and breast cancer-specific survival rates.These rates were then compared using log-rank tests.Outcomes and age were modeled by Cox proportional hazards.Fractional polynomials were then used to test for non-linear relationships between age and outcomes.Results:Patients≤40 years old were more likely to have locoregional recurrence than were older patients(Hazard ratio[HR]=2.32,P<0.001).Locoregional recurrence rates decreased year-on-year by 4%for patients with luminal-type breast cancers,compared with 8%for those with triple-negative cancers.Similarly,breast cancer-free survival rates increased year-on-year by 4%versus 8%for luminal-type and triple-negative cancers,respectively.Breast cancer-spe-cific survival rates increased with age by 5%year-on-year.Both breast cancer-free survival and breast cancer-specific survival rates in patients with luminal cancers exhibited a non-linear(“L-shaped”)relationship-where decreasing age at presentation was associated with escalating risks of relapse and death.The influence of age on overall survival was confounded by competing non-cancer deaths in older women,resulting in a“U-shaped”relationship.Conclusions:Young Asian breast cancer patients have a continuous year-on-year increase in rates of disease relapse and cancer deaths compared with older patients with no apparent threshold. | Fuh Yong Wong Wei Ying Tham Wen Long Nei Cindy Lim Hui Miao | 2018 | Cancer Communications2018，38，1： | 9 |
| 3 | Characterization of typical taste and odor compounds formed by Microcystis aeruginosa显示文摘Production and characteristics of typical taste and odor (T&O) compounds by Microcystis aeruginosa were investigated. A few terpenoid chemicals, including 2-MIB, β-cyclocitral, and β-ionone, and a few sulfur compounds, such as dimethyl sulfide and dimethyl trisulfide, were detected. β-Cyclocitral and β-carotene concentrations were observed to be relevant to the growth phases of Microcystis. During the stable growth phase, 41-865 fg/cell of β-cyclocitral were found in the laboratory culture. β-Cyclocitral concentrations correlated closely with β-carotene concentrations, with the correlation coefficient R2 = 0.96, as it is formed from the cleavage reaction of β-carotene. For dead cell cases, a high concentration of dimethyl trisulfide was detected at 3.48-6.37 fg/cell. Four T&O compounds, including β-cyclocitral, β-ionone, heptanal and dimethyl trisulfide, were tested and found to be able to inhibit and damage Microcystis cells to varying degrees. | 7 | Investigation of process parameters of electrohydrodynamic jetting for 3D printed PCL fibrous scaffolds with complex geometries显示文摘Tissue engineering is a promising technology in the field of regenerative medicine with its potential to create tissues de novo.Though there has been a good progress in this field so far,there still exists the challenge of providing a 3D micro-architecture to the artificial tissue construct,to mimic the native cell or tissue environment.Both 3D printing and 3D bioprinting are looked upon as an excellent solution due to their capabilities of mimicking the native tissue architecture layer-by-layer with high precision and appreciable resolution.Electrohydrodynamic jetting(E-jetting)is one type of 3D printing,in which,a high electric voltage is applied between the extruding nozzle and the substrate in order to print highly controlled fibres.In this study,an E-jetting system was developed in-house for the purpose of 3D printing of fibrous scaffolds.The effect of various E-jetting parameters,namely the supply voltage,solution concentration,nozzle-to-substrate distance,stage(printing)speed and solution dispensing feed rate on the diameter of printed fibres were studied at the first stage.Optimized parameters were then used to print Polycaprolactone(PCL)scaffolds of highly complex geometries,i.e.,semi-lunar and spiral geometries,with the aim of demonstrating the flexibility and capability of the system to fabricate complex geometry scaffolds and biomimic the complex 3D micro-architecture of native tissue environment.The spiral geometry is expected to result in better cell migration during cell culture and tissue maturation. | Hui Wang Sanjairaj Vijayavenkataraman Yang Wu Zhen Shu Jie Sun Jerry Fuh Ying Hsi | 2016 | International Journal of Bioprinting2016，2，1： | 4 |
